Re: How to add an unrelated individual to a 1921 census entry
Adrian, thank you. That has refreshed my memory and I think that is where I have seen that function. Nick, thanks again, I can imagine that you have an endless ToDo list and I’m about to add to my ToDo list to go and see what the Auto Fit function is and how it works. Not sure if I have played with ...

Re: How to add an unrelated individual to a 1921 census entry
Thank you, Nick, that is what I have been doing as a work-around but for some of the sheets there are quite a few ‘extra’ people to add. Was it previously possible to just add them straight into the grid without having to edit the auto text afterwards? Or am I imagining that? And if it is not possib...

How to add an unrelated individual to a 1921 census entry
I was fortunate enough so spend a day at the National Archives last week so my mission was to download as many relevant census pages as possible in the time available. So I now have a ton of census images to input into fH Because of the time of year the census was taken I am finding lots of families...

Re: Internet data matches not working
Thank you for the suggestion. Could someone please explain how to delete cookies for a website?
Edit....
I asked Google and got a clear explanation. Job done and matches are now working.
Many thanks.

Internet data matches not working
I have just opened FH after not using it for a while and it offered me an update to 7.01.11 which I accepted. Now when I click on the hints for an individual I am getting this error message on the web page {"statusCode":400,"error":"Bad Request","message":&quo...

Re: How to make a family groups list for 1921 census searches
Yes, I am indeed new to visiting TNA but my understanding is that you can use a laptop anywhere in the building and everything is available to download whilst on their wifi network. So my plan is to do the searching at home this week and make a note of any that I want to download. Then when I get th...

Re: How to make a family groups list for 1921 census searches
Thanks for your suggestion, David, I already have lots of supporting information for the families and individuals but I was looking for a quick way to get that information from FH into a useable list for my trip to TNA.

Re: How to make a family groups list for 1921 census searches
Thanks, Mike. Your reply reassures me that it is indeed a complicated task so I think I will go back to good old pencil and paper and make a list of families in a note book and take that with me.

How to make a family groups list for 1921 census searches
Good morning all. I am going to the National Archives at Kew next week, mainly to look for my families in the 1921 census. Before I go I want to make a fairly comprehensive list of who to search for when I get there. I would appreciate some suggestions about the best way to create this list from fH....

Thank you, that seems to have done it. Once again I have no idea what I have actually done but I seem to have ended up with the right result. I will send a message to CalicoPie as you suggest.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings Plug In
I'm finding this very hard to understand ! But I am doing my best. I ticked the box in the options then clicked the Programme Data files button on the restore tab. Then I clicked the Registry data Keys and I got a message saying that I needed to close fH first. So I have done that and now have this ...

Hello all, I'm having trouble understanding how to use this Plug In to transfer my settings from my old laptop to my new one. Linking research notes to an individual
Good morning all, after a summer break I'm back to my winter hobby and picking up the threads from where I left off last year. Generally I'm quite pleased with the notes, citations etc that I made last year and I can see where I need to continue the research. But... I wanted to make a new note templ...

Re: Can I attach this video?
Thank you. That all sounds a bit complicated for me so I think I will just grab a screenshot or two from the video to attach to the tree with a note about where the DVD is kept and the references for the original source at the Imperial War Museum.
Thanks for your advice.

Can I attach this video?
I have a piece of WWII video from the Imperial War Museum which features my father demonstrating how to put out an incendiary bomb with a sandbag! Absolutely priceless! I'd like to attach it in some way to him in my tree so it is there for easy viewing in the future. I looked at the knowledge base a...

I did this course last year and it was excellent. So much useful information and new research strategies. I did it via Future Learn and learnt a lot from the discussion threads with other students too.

Re: drag and drop
I think you are right about image quality. I only use the snip tool for less important images such as a baptism document which includes no extra information. For bigger documents with more crucial detail such as a will, I would definitely download the whole image.

Re: drag and drop
Devonjon, I didn't realise that this was possible either so I have been laboriously saving to computer then importing to FH too. You commented about doing a screenshot then cropping it but I have just experimented and if you use the Snipping Tool on Windows, you can select exactly the area that you ...

OK, I’ll do some more reading before I do anything else but for those of us who don’t have a natural inclination to these things, it is a steep learning curve and sometimes very hard to understand.
I’ll keep trying though

Re: Unwanted source information uploaded to Ancestry
Thank you for your patience in explaining it all, Mike. I will have a go at that process tomorrow when my brain is fresh! Basically I just want it on Ancestry to pick up any hints and any researchers interested in the same families. So it does not need a huge amount of detail, just enough to look as...
