Re: Research analysis and conclusions
In FH you can set Fact Flags to indicate the best or dubious ones, etc. e.g. Preferred, Tentative, Rejected Aye! And that has its own set of issues. For example my 'preferred' birth is now listed as Birth[2], the rejected birth is Birth. That is going to be some crazy fun when writing queries. Then...

Re: Research analysis and conclusions
Most software (and GEDCOM) assumes for example one birth fact, which when doing research may not be valuable! The same can be said about marriage data and many other “facts and events”. Most software and GEDCOM allow multiple instances of any fact including Birth, Marriage, and Death events. Howeve...

Re: Ancestry Synchronization error
Yes - you have an interesting choice to make. If you use the sync plugin, it automatically manages Private and Living flags, so if you do export details of living people the Living flag is set correctly on Ancestry. However, it will only be a tree extract - core facts with no media, sources or note...

Re: Ancestry Synchronization error
A test project containing 2^16 (~ 65k) records failed with memory issues using the published plugin, mirroring the reported issue, but with aggressive memory management an update cycle completed in 404 seconds. My assumption is that the current store version doesn't offer the aggressive memory mana...

Re: Ancestry Synchronization error
In my experimentation, I have already been exporting a GEDCOM and creating a RM7 file which I then TreeShare and proceed using my normal RM workflow. I dislike wandering around on Ancestry directly, so working from within RM or maybe someday FH, is much more to my liking. Current system is functiona...

Re: Ancestry Synchronization error
Thank you for the explanation. My current workflow in RM7 involves me only doing an initial TreeShare. Instead of updating changes, I periodically delete the Ancestry tree and TreeShare a new copy. I am used to no continuity in hints. I may try splitting my file a couple of ways and trying the plugi...

Ancestry Synchronization error
Is there an upper limit to the number of persons that can be accommodated by this plugin? I have a file with 45,658 Individual Records. During the usage of the plugin, this causes FH to stop responding and eventually throw up a Lua Error that says "not enough memory". I am on a Windows 10 ...

Re: New Ancestry Synchronization Plugin version
This probably just took out the largest roadblock I had to moving full on to FH from RM7. I know there were earlier releases and I had planned to test it in the past but just forgot about it. Then I see your post for today and I figured no time like the present. I have also managed to sort my report...

Re: What is the Rel. column in the children section of the Focus Window?
See the following FH Help pages: Select Relationship Type ~ although this refers to the Property Box it also applies to the Focus Window as explained below. How to Flag a Child as Adopted, Illegitimate, etc in the Focus Window. This is great, however unless one knew what the column was for, this wo...

What is the Rel. column in the children section of the Focus Window?
This may be slightly embarassing, but I have never really paid attention to the rightmost column in the 'Children' section of the Focus window. I have previously seen nothing in that column due to having the Max Pictures option set to 0 and the Parent and Child picture tickboxes unmarked. I recently...

I've done one (a very simple one): Research Notes Report with Options but anything else is in the (long) to-do queue. I don't have Mike's ability to turn them out pretty well on demand.

Re: Adding marriage details to a child in a family group sheet report
I once was told by such an author that she was thinking about writing a Report Plugin. I wonder whatever became of that plugin author????ColeValleyGirl wrote: ↑16 Jul 2023 11:35 Another option would be to find a plugin author to write a Report plugin.

Re: What is an objective definition of "Splitting"?
I didn't say that the EE method was the only way to be a splitter. However, I have read many of Gary's posts here and in groups for other software packages so I am somewhat familiar with what he is doing . So my reply was directed to him, not you.

Re: Kent Family History Society (KFHS) copyright breach!
As you say, facts cannot be copyrighted, but there may be a breach of the contractual terms under which KFHS made the material available. Unfortunately KFHS is highly unlikely to be able to prove any breach like that if the information is available from any place outside of their control. If there ...

Re: Kent Family History Society (KFHS) copyright breach!
I am a little late to the discussion, but I am curious as to what material is violating copyright. It seems as if some posts think that the data itself violates copyright. That is not the case. The only possible copyright violations would be any photos that were posted on the KFHS site. The birth/de...

which appear to have a Primary Name fact and an Alternate Name fact. Yeah, that is pretty much what I just said isn't it? At least that is what came off my fingers. And no, it isn't equivalent to what you just said. Not for those that imported directly. There is no need for all of the screwing abou...

Re: narrative report - excluding some aka names
Bev came from Rootsmagic, so yes, there is that possibility! If she used RM's alt name field and did a direct import of her database to FH she will be able to mark the alternative name as private.

In the persons Property box, you can right-click on the alternate name and assign it the Private flag.

Re: Retaining RIN Numbers Exporting to RM8
The problem here is that by RM calling an xref_id a RIN they confuse the heck out of GEDCOM imports that actually have a RIN tag that is not equal to the xref_id. When RM is in their own little bubble they can call fields whatever they want, but when generating and receiving a GEDCOM they must adhe...

Re: Retaining RIN Numbers Exporting to RM8
You don't need to be condescending Mike. I am quite well aware of what you said and I wasn't addressing you. As for RM doing something "mistakenly" that is your opinion. RM is specifically calling them RIN numbers for a purpose because in the overall scheme, that is precisely what they are...

Re: Retaining RIN Numbers Exporting to RM8
I use simple generated unique sequential IDs and need them to remain fixed between gedcom programmes. This does not seem a big ask of a genealogy programme import/export process. Personalised reference number systems i have found create more difficulties than they solve but its a personal choice. M...

Re: recent update
I have never, until now, bothered to pay attention what or where a program downloads during an update. I have been using computers since before Windows and my assumption had always been that the installer downloaded to the temp files and got cleaned up after the install. SO the fact that FH created ...
