Thank you for your response. The bit that was messing with me is that it didn't seem like it was the first image. I'll have to go back and look more carefully.

Re: What is the Rel. column in the children section of the Focus Window?
See the following FH Help pages: Select Relationship Type ~ although this refers to the Property Box it also applies to the Focus Window as explained below. How to Flag a Child as Adopted, Illegitimate, etc in the Focus Window. This is great, however unless one knew what the column was for, this wo...

What is the Rel. column in the children section of the Focus Window?
This may be slightly embarassing, but I have never really paid attention to the rightmost column in the 'Children' section of the Focus window. I have previously seen nothing in that column due to having the Max Pictures option set to 0 and the Parent and Child picture tickboxes unmarked. I recently...

Oh, that was you? Couldn't remember who it was.ColeValleyGirl wrote: ↑16 Jul 2023 12:48
I've done one (a very simple one): Research Notes Report with Options but anything else is in the (long) to-do queue. I don't have Mike's ability to turn them out pretty well on demand.

I once was told by such an author that she was thinking about writing a Report Plugin. I wonder whatever became of that plugin author????ColeValleyGirl wrote: ↑16 Jul 2023 11:35Another option would be to find a plugin author to write a Report plugin.

Re: What is an objective definition of "Splitting"?
I didn't say that the EE method was the only way to be a splitter. However, I have read many of Gary's posts here and in groups for other software packages so I am somewhat familiar with what he is doing . So my reply was directed to him, not you.

Re: Kent Family History Society (KFHS) copyright breach!
As you say, facts cannot be copyrighted, but there may be a breach of the contractual terms under which KFHS made the material available. Unfortunately KFHS is highly unlikely to be able to prove any breach like that if the information is available from any place outside of their control. If there ...

Re: Kent Family History Society (KFHS) copyright breach!
I am a little late to the discussion, but I am curious as to what material is violating copyright. It seems as if some posts think that the data itself violates copyright. That is not the case. The only possible copyright violations would be any photos that were posted on the KFHS site. The birth/de...

which appear to have a Primary Name fact and an Alternate Name fact. Yeah, that is pretty much what I just said isn't it? At least that is what came off my fingers. And no, it isn't equivalent to what you just said. Not for those that imported directly. There is no need for all of the screwing abou...

Re: narrative report - excluding some aka names
Bev came from Rootsmagic, so yes, there is that possibility! If she used RM's alt name field and did a direct import of her database to FH she will be able to mark the alternative name as private.

In the persons Property box, you can right-click on the alternate name and assign it the Private flag.

Re: Retaining RIN Numbers Exporting to RM8
The problem here is that by RM calling an xref_id a RIN they confuse the heck out of GEDCOM imports that actually have a RIN tag that is not equal to the xref_id. When RM is in their own little bubble they can call fields whatever they want, but when generating and receiving a GEDCOM they must adhe...

Re: Retaining RIN Numbers Exporting to RM8
You don't need to be condescending Mike. I am quite well aware of what you said and I wasn't addressing you. As for RM doing something "mistakenly" that is your opinion. RM is specifically calling them RIN numbers for a purpose because in the overall scheme, that is precisely what they are. What FH ...

Re: Retaining RIN Numbers Exporting to RM8
I use simple generated unique sequential IDs and need them to remain fixed between gedcom programmes. This does not seem a big ask of a genealogy programme import/export process. Personalised reference number systems i have found create more difficulties than they solve but its a personal choice. M...

Re: recent update

I have been using computers since before Windows and my assumption had always been that the installer downloaded to the temp files and got cleaned up after the install. SO the fact that FH created ...

Re: Retaining RIN Numbers Exporting to RM8
Roots Magic should when importing a GEDCOM file to an empty database give the option to maintain RIM numbers but this tick box does NOT appear when importing directly from my Family Historian database (which I beleive is the recommended process). The file imports successfully but the RIN is changed...

I have been in contact with GEDCOM since 7.0.1 was issued and contributed to Better GEDCOM in the past! The concept of “root individual” can have multiple meanings! 1) Current report, the individual to start the report from. 2) The individual that started the local genealogy. 3) The first individua...

Most American style guides prefer Washington D.C. over Washington DC, so seeing as it's their capital city, I'm happy for them to call it whatever they want! I was born in and have lived in the United States for 56 years, 8 months and 1 day. I can count on one hand the number of times I have used p...

Thank you for asking Helen. I am not quite a refugee from another program. I still use RM7 for all of my data entry work. Re: Backup and Restore FH Settings plugins
It's ironic that kfunk_ia cited FH's superior query facility compared with RM as its main attraction. The work done by the enthusiasts behind SQLite Tools For RootsMagic gives the ability to create RM queries that are much more powerful and flexible than what is possible with FH's query tools, but ...

Re: Backup and Restore FH Settings plugins
Whichever way you do the analysis, most FH users are not using either version. I am one of those that is not using either plugin. The reasoning for that is that I am still firmly rooted in RM7 because there are still many things in FH7 that I do not like. I have experimented with various plugins an...

Re: Audit RM Direct Import plugin
Ok, so if I understand the sort date part of the plugin, it is meant to replace all occurrences of no date with "63 6383" and in the cases where I have a date range, it is going to change the sort date to the first date in that range. So the bits below in the Sort Date column will become my new sort...
