1861 Census record for HM Ships at sea
Has anybody done one of these in Ancestral Sources?
I have an ancestor who was aboard HMS Simoom in the South China Seas on the date of the 1861 census. I Have their record from the Enumeration Book but am not sure how to record it.

Re: Looking for archival storage boxes
These are exactly the ones I’ve been looking for. Thanks!ColeValleyGirl wrote: ↑26 Apr 2022 09:42 Conservation Resources just came up on my Twitter feed, recommended by one archivist to another.
I’ve just taken delivery of three and they’re perfect for what I want. Very strong and only £6 each.

Re: Looking for archival storage boxes
Thanks for the replies. I didn’t make myself clear. I see that both sites do clamshell style as well as lidded boxes, but what I currently use have full-depth lids. It was this sort of box I was looking for. However, knowing that the clamshell style boxes are OK is good to know. I’ve wondered about ...

Looking for archival storage boxes
I'm in need of some more archival quality storage boxes. The ones I have came from my mother's researches and are heavy cardboard boxes with full depth lids approx. 14 x 11 x 4 inches. Very strong and stackable. I've searched on line but neither PEL or my-history do anything like these. Before I opt...

I asked, but received the response that whilst it would be a good idea to incorporate the new features in the sample project, there are no plans to do so.

Possible bug in 7.0.11
I happened to expand the "date" column in the list of Research records and noticed this:
The dates are all in 2021, so the years are being displayed incorrectly.

Techniques for researching before church records
I'm researching the DUNN part of my family in the village of Edgefield in Norfolk. I've got back to the 1660's but I think I've run out of resources. I seem to have got back to before any written church records exist. Is this the end? They're illiterate agricultural workers, so no family records exi...

Sample project using new features
I've been re-watching the "What's new in V7" video and I see some examples of the new features in the sample project.
This isn't the sample project that's shipped with V7 as far as I can see. Can we get hold of it?

Re: Map Life Facts - API Key Problem
That is the odd thing, you're right. Inspecting the API Key itself showed that there were no restrictions. However, if you set the option to restrict and then went to select the APIs, Geocoder API was not in the list. It was disabled at a higher (lower?) level. Sorted now, but it may catch somebody ...

Re: Map Life Facts - API Key Problem
It turns out that the problem was at Google's end. In the OP, I mentioned that I couldn't see the Geocoding API in the list of APIs. I went into the Cloud Platform and opened up the mapping App I created last year and could see that the Geocoding API was not in the list of enabled mapping APIs and t...

Map Life Facts - API Key Problem
I recently change machines. I previously had Map Life Facts working on the old machine but I'm having problems getting it working again on the new one (no, I didn't export all the settings before migrating across). I've added the API code back in, but the plugin gets a "geocoder api request den...

OK, thanks Nick.
This cert was only issued last week. So maybe they've changed recently.
Sadly, it's my mother's.

FH7 or AS7 - error in Death Certificate Template
Not sure if this an AS problem or FH 7. I've just been entering a recent death into FH7 using AS. The auto-generated narrative has two fields in the wrong order compared to the actual certificate. Fields 8 (I certify...) and 9 (Cause of Death) are recorded backwards in the template as 8 (cause of de...

FH displaying incorrectly in "half-screen" mode
I've just upgraded to V7 and am playing around with the test project. I set up the screen to show the help on the RH side of the screen and FH on the left. I think this is called half-screen but could be wrong. When set up like this (i.e. drag FH to the LHS of the screen) you can only see the right ...

Re: File Naming Convention
I had previously come from using The Master Genealogist for many years, so I had adopted one of the conventions that was developed on there. See https://www.mjh-nm.net/SRCGUIDE.HTML#Top for details. Briefly, it proposes a structured filename based on the source type: much along the lines offered by ...

Re: Advice to using Historian on a Macbook Pro
Gareth, that sure is a neat trick, but why buy VMWare Fusion when Oracle VirtualBox is free? Then the only cost is a cheap Windows 7 licence. True. I’ve not tried FH in virtualbox but I have other programs that behaved oddly in virtualbox. True, they involved network communications, but there is qu...

Re: Advice to using Historian on a Macbook Pro
Thank you Shane, that works because FH is running in a genuine Windows OS. But there are significant costs both for VMWare Fusion (£70+) and Windows 10 (£100+) on top of the FH licence. Even though it's not publicly advertised, it's still possible to upgrade a Windows 7 installation to Windows 10 f...
