FH6 and FH7 on same PC?
Hi, I'd like to try out FH7, but am slightly alarmed that the installation instructions state it will upgrade my existing FH6 to a trial version of FH7. Can I run both versions in parallel on one PC (if I avoid opening any FH7 project in FH6), or is this not possible (without resorting to running a ...

Re: collaborative working: merging sources/citations
Thanks for your thoughts, Mike.
It would definitely be me doing any merge/compare file commands, not Mum, if we go down that route. I'm might try some dummy runs on some test data, and see how it goes...

Re: collaborative working: merging sources/citations
24/7 may be a slight exaggeration, but certainly there are times of potential overlap in working hours (UK morning/SG afternoon). The potential data clash problem was the reason I configured things this way in the first place...
Will have to give this some more thought, I think.

Re: collaborative working: merging sources/citations
Yes, it makes sense, but I don't have things configured that way at the moment. I am only using the cloud as scratch space for the synchronisation, not as the primary project storage space. Projects are stored locally in c:\historian on both PCs. syncbackfree runs as a scheduled process on Mum's PC ...

Re: collaborative working: merging sources/citations
Thanks for the reply, Mike. I had decided against a full synchronisation, to prevent the possibility of both of us making local changes between synchronisations, which could lead to possible data loss (e.g. only the gedcom with the latest timestamp would be kept). If you are adding Source records an...

collaborative working: merging sources/citations
Hi, I work collaboratively with my mother on our family history work. We each run historian in separate locations (on different continents!) and my mother (who does most of the work) maintains the master project file, which gets synchronised automatically via onedrive and syncback free unidirectiona...

Re: Export Gedcom ANC query
One follow-up question: is ANC- intended to strip type 1 sources from the GEDCOM?
I am still seeing the sources in output (and therefore also on ancestry after uploading).

Re: Export Gedcom ANC query
Hi Mike,
I have just tried re-generating the GEDCOM and uploading again to ancestry, and this time it worked fine!
A bit mysterious: perhaps something was broken on the ancestry side of things... (I did tell them I was having problems)
Thanks again,
Andrew

Re: Export Gedcom ANC query
Thanks for your patience with this, Mike.
I attach the exceptions log and the results set from the plugin.
I'd need to anonymise some of the living data in the GEDCOM to post it publicly, although happy to mail you a copy, if it helps.
Cheers,
Andrew

Re: Export Gedcom ANC query
Thanks, Mike. In Ancestry, from the Home page, when you click on Trees presumably it lists Lewis-Slater tree ANC UTF8 correct, however I see no family tree boxes, and list all people says there are no people in the tree. I'll start going through the exceptional values in the report, to see if I can ...

Hi Mike, Thanks for the reply. To answer your questions: 1. First time to use the plugin, but did not open in FH. 2. Sample project works fine. 3. Export Gedcom ANC query
I've been trying to use the Export Gedcom File plugin with ANC- settings to generate a GEDCOM file for upload to ancestry. The resulting gedcom file looks OK, but when I try to upload to ancestry it appears to work (100% when importing appears), but I end up with zero people in the tree. Any ideas w...

I use Akvis retoucher from the list David mentions. I’ve had excellent results removing scratches, tears etc. and got up to speed with it very quickly. It’s not exactly cheap, but works well - I think there is a trial version available.

duplicate of occupation attributes
I'm trying to tidy up some duplication of occupation attributes, and wonder if there is a quick way to generate a list of all individuals with multiple instances of the same occupation? I thought Mike Tate's 'duplicate facts' plugin might do it, but doesn't seem to - unless I am not using it correct...

Re: rotating pictures
Apologies for the necropost, but have been looking for a quick solution to fixing a folder with a lot of JPEGS, about 70% of which are rotated (usually 270 degrees, sometimes 90 degrees), as reported by Windows Explorer Details View, using the Orientation field. downloading jhead and jpegtran solved...

Re: Multiple source and image title templates for marriages?
Many thanks, Mike and Helen.
I think Mike's suggestion will work well for me - I can just replace my title prefix before saving, and use the 'image title same as source title' option. Seems to work nicely.

Multiple source and image title templates for marriages?
I have recently started to use AS to input GRO certificates and Parish records. My naming scheme for source and media records distinguishes GRO certificates (prefixed with BC MC and DC) from Parish records (prefixed with BAP MAR and BUR). I can keep this distinction easily with AS for baptisms versu...

Re: Check for Unlinked Media problems
Solved it - user error, as you suspected. (I had 2 similarly named projects, and had the other one open in error.)
Plugin does exactly what it says on the tin, and will be very helpful.

Re: Check for Unlinked Media problems
Hi Mike,
I tried searching for one of the unlinked files with Edit > Find and it doesn't show up at all. I guess that means they really are unlinked, but not sure why the plugin is not showing them.
Andrew

Re: Check for Unlinked Media problems
Thanks for the reply, Jane.
I have a number of media files in the Media folder (and sub-folders thereof) that are not linked to any media record in my project. I assume this is what the plugin should detect? Is that correct?

Re: Check for Unlinked Media problems
I am gradually tidying up a migration from v3 to v6, and know that I have quite a few unlinked media items in my media folder, and thought this plug-in would help (as did the very helpful 'Find Duplicate Media plugin). However, when I run it, and click 'List Unlinked Media', it immediately returns '...

restoring 'click-and-drag on the picture' hint
I had removed the 'click and drag on the picture to draw a stretchy box...' hint that appears when you click add frame link from the media link tool, but would like to restore to help a new user of the programme. Is there a way to restore this from media preferences? I cannot immediately see an opti...
