Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
I think you are right. I probably will copy and paste by hand if I choose to use Evidentia.

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
Is there a way to get the Source Title into a Source List of some kind? I'm looking at report options, and I don't see how to list sources separately from citations. I'm also wondering about merging. Will it be possible to update existing citation notes, fact dates, places, etc with later GEDCOM imp...

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
Thanks Mike. This is a lot for a noob to understand, but I'm trying. I've been working with Evidentia like you recommended, created a source, a citation, a couple of subjects (people), and a claim (marriage). Then I exported it GEDCOM and imported into FH , RootsMagic, and Legacy. Here's how things ...

Re: Where is Ancestral Sources
What I usually do is to use AS for the basic census facts that are similar to the England and Wales census that AS was designed for. Once I am finished, I go into Family Historian, select the Census, turn on Auto-Source Citation, and finish the rest of the data entry from there. That's the most str...

Re: Where is Ancestral Sources
@Mike, @ Foxfam, It is possible to create extra templates for AS to record (in the Text From Source field) all the information in the source. There are a few templates for specific USA and Canadian censuses available for download here: fhugdownloads:ancestralsources|> Downloads and Links ~ Ancestra...

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
Thank you Helen for that description of how you use the Long and Short Title to do EE style citations. And thanks Mike for the clarification. I'm still interested in lumping, but I think I need to see how the data appears after an export from Evidentia. Is there a character limit when the data is ex...

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
What about the Where within Source field in the citation details box? I've seen in past threads on this forum (sorry, I can't find the link) that this box has a character limit of 248. I wonder how easy it is to surpass that limit when using it for Evidence Explained type reference details.

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
I guess I will have to import from GEDCOM file that originated from Evidentia to see what I need to do?

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
As far as I know Evidentia can split (Method 1) or lump (Method 2). Evidence Explained steers you towards splittng, particularly when you get into the Source-Information-Evidence aspects of it. (It doesn't preclude you lumping). Really? Then I'm confused. I thought that Method 1, splitting, has you...

Re: Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
I have read about the differences between Method 1 and Method 2. I think I understand the disadvantages of Method 2, namely that I'd have to edit each citation separately. So whereas Method 1 allows me to link 15 facts to one citation, Method 2 gives me many citations for one source. This also makes...

Evidence Explained citations and Evidentia
So, I have decided I want to be a lumper, and that I want to use Evidence Explained citations. If I use the Long title, Short title, then my understanding is that I won't be lumping, but rather splitting. Other options I've seen on this forum are to use tags or notes, and I don't really understand h...

Re: Importing Media From Ancestry
Okay. I don't have FTM. I'm not planning to continue to use Ancestry for my main tree, and this is just one more good reason. However, I do like using it to research. The records are easier to navigate with the little popup that tell me what the column header is. I need to figure out a workflow that...

Importing Media From Ancestry
I've read the FAQ and searched these forums and knowledge base. I can't seem to find out why it is that I can't import the media with my GEDCOM which was exported from Ancestry.com. Does Ancestry not export the media files?

Re: Sources, Citations and Methods for Census Households
I have another question related to Method 1. Are there any undesirable consequences if I were add details to some or all of the facts that were created by AS with Method 1. I am thinking of adding Line#,Col#. Will it create multiple citations in reports?

Sources, Citations and Methods for Census Households
I've been reading the 13159|Sources, Citations and Methods thread and the Knowledge Base to wrap my head around the 2 Methods described here. I *think* I understand. I do have a question related to something brought up in this thread: the issue of have two households on one page. I understand the re...

Re: Where is Ancestral Sources
Thanks Mike for those suggestions, as well. I have been reading through the Knowledge Base and watching the Ancestral Sources tutorials. I've been playing around with data too. One question I have is whether it is possible to create other facts and attributes for other details from the record. For e...

Re: Where is Ancestral Sources
Okay, that explains why the videos I stumbled upon seemed to show the person toggling between FH and Ancestral Sources, as if they were separate. I'll take a look at it. By reviewing this stand alone program, will I have a good idea of what the plugin can do? Or do they differ a lot?

No, I didn't realize it was installed on my PC as a separate program. When I clicked on the downloaded plugin file, it just oped Family Historian. I would like to try it before I decide to buy. How do I open it?

Where is Ancestral Sources
I'm trying to get started with the Ancestral Sources plugin, and I'm following the tutorials. I've downloaded the plugin, clicked on the plugin file to install it, and reset the first project to the original settings. I've closed and reopened. But how is the ancestral plugin accessed? Is it a menu i...

Re: Recording adoption by new marriage
Thanks a ton. That did the trick!
One last thing for now. What is the general concensus on which surname to make the primary for children adopted early in life? Is it frowned upon to use the adopted surname the primary for use in Reports or Trees which will be shared?

Re: Recording adoption by new marriage
Thanks Mike. I may play around with that some more to see which is best, whether to link him twice or not. Also, I can see by your answer that you saw my question before I edited it. The main problem I'm having now is that I wasn't able to show both dates of marriage in the Diagram as I thought. Ins...
