Re: Is there a way to stop/pause the CHANge time being updated.

I think we have all got a bit distracted into discussing the means rather than the end. Jim’s desired outcome was to essentially view records by date added. Just sorting the Records Window by Record Number does this, as FH always adds records to the end of the list and does not reuse deleted numbers...

Re: Is there a way to stop/pause the CHANge time being updated.

IMO, deliberately altering or suppressing the update record is not something that should be done lightly, so should not be a program option.

Re: Is there a way to stop/pause the CHANge time being updated.

I have a custom plugin that writes update stamps to file, then restores them by updating the GEDCOM file directly. It’s only for occasional use, such as adding UniqueID values, which updates all individuals and destroys the update history.

Re: Entering gravestone with two names on it

That's an interesting distinction. From a purely documentation perspective, I would suggest that the more significant question is "where is this person commemorated?" rather than "where are the physical remains of this person? (but recognising of course that this may not be the case for other sentim...

Re: Importing from RM - dates from before calendar change

I have deleted the plugin from the post earlier in this thread as it has now been replaced by the more general Audit RM Direct Import plugin.

Re: Audit RM Direct Import plugin

No - all the listed sort dates are deleted. "63 6383" is how the default RM sort date for undated events gets imported, and is always invalid. For events with a date range, FH always sorts them according to the start of the range anyway, so the sort date is superfluous and gives an inconsistent disp...

Re: Audit RM Direct Import plugin

I’d forgotten that one. I’ll have a look later, but places might be a bit tricky. I have thought of a wrinkle in the way the plugin handles citation media. If there is no distinct text between different citations with different media, all citations get all media (so “false positives” of a missing li...

Re: Audit RM Direct Import plugin

Not at the moment, but it is reasonable to be cautious with such a large change to your project. It's not difficult to provide a "list" rather than "delete" option, so I've deleted the first plugin draft as it is only you who has downloaded it so far, and I'll replace it with new version providing a...

Re: Audit RM Direct Import plugin

Nobody picked up any flaws in the basic methodology, so the plugin is ready to go. There is a single menu screen (which respects FH7 custom fonts and zoom), as shown: Capture.PNG Invalid sort dates are not visible in the Date Entry Assistant, but are clutter in your project file resulting from FH no...

Re: FH 6.2

Hopefully, CP will provide a link to download the CD install version. As a general tip, users who still have a CD/DVD drive and disks that they will need again in the future should copy the disks to ISO files that you can store locally, either directly on the PC or externally such as a USB disk or N...

Re: Fact Set file structure

I might ask them if there is any further dialogue on the structure of the RM Import set, but I suspect they might just recommend against plugins writing to these files... I've seen previous versions of the Standard Fact Set in the FH Program Files(x86) folder. The only reason I can think of to do th...

Fact Set file structure

The [.index] section of my FH Standard Fact Set file contains these two lines: Ver1=6 Ver2=0 My Extended Set contains Ver1=4 Ver2=0 Default=99 If I create a brand new Fact Set with a single Fact, it is this, and doesn't change as I add more Facts Ver1=6 Ver2=0 Has anybody reverse-engineered the file...

Re: Audit RM Direct Import plugin

Cleary a case of brain f**t here! RM sort dates can't be free form, they are stored as a number in the database :? There are a couple more wrinkles around sort dates that I have checked. RM has a useful facility to sort events on the same day into a defined order by adding a dash and a number after ...

Re: Audit RM Direct Import plugin

Thanks, that's just the type of challenge I'm after. Could you describe how that technique is used in practice please? RM allows free-form sort dates, but FH does not. You can only enter simple dates, so it does not look like a sustainable strategy for FH as you cannot add any new consistent data, a...

Re: Audit RM Direct Import plugin

I have a rough draft plugin, so I’ll share the methodology before posting in case somebody spots a potential problem. Split date handling is just a copy of the earlier dedicated plugin, which I will delete when this one is live. I’ve noted an additional problem in testing, whereby incomplete split d...

Re: Template issue when exporting back to RM8

Looking at the FH project GEDCOM, it looks like a simple matter of the link to the media file not being included when an RM8 shared citation is converted to multiple FH copies (FH does not support shared citations). Hopefully, it should be a straightforward fix, but let's see what CP say... It migh...

Re: Country Summary Help

There isn’t a definitive guide for Lua, but this document is the guide for Python, which has a lot of similarities to Lua.

It’s well written and worth a skim read to pick up some of the general principles.

Re: TO Do Report

How would you populate the new custom attribute? The OP says he has 120 such notes, and I’m sure he doesn’t want to copy all the details one by one. My impression is that this would just duplicate the Research Notes, but in a less flexible format.

Re: TO Do Report

Rich, I think you are on the right lines. There is a big difference between the ToDo list in RM and how it is recreated in FH. In RM, the list items are fully structured, with each each field being a separate data item. FH doesn't support this granularity, and Research Notes are really just text not...

Re: Template issue when exporting back to RM8

Reading the complete thread again, I suspect that Matthew may be getting confused between the RM "Free Form" source and FH Generic Sources. He said early on that I never would have done a direct import of RM into FH 7 if I had known it would cause FH 7 to put all the citations into RM 8 templates . ...

Re: Template issue when exporting back to RM8

I decided not to wait until tomorrow, as it was a simple test... I created a test RM8 database containing 2 individuals. Each person had a birth, census, and occupation fact sourced from the same census entry, which had an attached media file. For one individual (Mary Jones), I created a source cita...

Re: Template issue when exporting back to RM8

My recommendation to others who want to import a tree from RM 8 into FH7 would be to do it through a gedcom export and not a direct import (though I guess if they have heavily customized data in RM 8 or used Templates in RM 8 maybe direct would be the way to go). Sorry Matthew, I completely disagre...

Excellent, Melanie - I've run it on a copy of my main project and even in the debugger it runs to completion in a fraction of a second and gives a believable output (my informal test - it looks about right....). The code is slightly repetitive in places, and the more experienced Lua coder could prob...
