Foster Care
I am wondering if anyone could guide me in the right direction I was told today - by my sister - that, as a child, I was placed in foster care, for about 6 months, while my mum had a hysterectomy and recovered. I was told that this was in Nottingham so would be between 1957 and 1962. My sister tells...

Re: Modern day conundrum
Interesting - Thanks Don't know enough at the minute but the discussion on Sex and Gender leaves a No: of questions. Anyone can describe their "gender" as to whatever they want. Once someone has transitioned they can go through a legal process (Gender recognition Act) to change their "sex" on their ...

Modern day conundrum
So how many times have we heard that "next year will see a new me" ? Well, one of my relative really meant it and have changed their name via deed pole AND have declared that their gender is not the one they were assigned at birth. Jack is now Jill (not their real names) I suppose in future versions...

Re: Plug-ins not working
I think it was just called GRO something or other!
Nope - it does not work with a Quarter date entered into the main birth record or the prepared citation

Re: Plug-ins not working
Thanks
From memory - in V6 the plug-in created the citation
However - even when I have entered the minimum data, the plug-in comes up with the same error? Regards

Plug-ins not working
I have upgraded FH to V7 and reinstalled Ancestral sources and 2 further plug-ins. While Ancestral Sources appears to be working OK the other 2 are not and coming up with a screen "Not all fields set" - see attached I have ensured that I have downloaded and installed the updated plug-ins for V7 Any ...

Re: Coroner/Inquest
Hi Mike I have not had to deal with that specific scenario, but my advice is not to get embroiled in too much detail at the fact level. Unfortunately there is not an Inquest Fact Set in the FHUG fhugdownloads:index|> Downloads and Links . Perhaps a "feature request" for a future release? or a new te...

Re: Coroner/Inquest
Hi Trevor Assuming that you will have documents that include all of the detail, I would simply link images of those documents into Family Historian. When you wish to read some of that detail, use the Open In Editor/Player in FH to view the relevant image. No need to spend lots of time transcribing t...

Coroner/Inquest
Sadly I have come to that point in my life when I have to deal with the death of a relative. On this particular occasion, it is not a simple death registration as the Coroner has become involved and an inquest will be heard (it is not clear if this will be a full inquest or a rubber stamp job) As th...

Re: Birth Re-registered after marriage
Nice to know the telephone answering service plugged into some expertise... (It does happen - it even happened to me with HM Revenue & Customs, who have always been very useful to me on the phone!) Revenue, Customs, Helpful ? Hmm those words do not quite fit well with me! Actually on the phone for ...

Re: Birth Re-registered after marriage
I have now ordered the certificates from GRO - via telephone - and the lady immediately identified the Q3 1964 registration as a re-registration to legitimise the 2 Q1 1963 birth records (a 3rd Q1 birth record was also found which turned out to be a mis-spelling of the Mother's surname!) I was infor...

I too am in the process of a complete re-build after deciding to switch from RM to FH - and boy am I glad I did! My whole approach has now changed and I realise that there were significant floors with my previous approach and processes. Changes and update to the various subscription web sites have a...

Re: Birth Re-registered after marriage
Hi Adrian ... There are 2 GRO references for Q1 1963 with both surnames with the same Vol & Page No's ... Sounds Like I will need to apply for 3 birth certificates from GRO!? TWO ! You've already said that the first "two" have the same Volume and Page Numbers. Just get that one of that Vol & Page Nu...

Re: Birth Re-registered after marriage
Hi Adrian ... There are 2 GRO references for Q1 1963 with both surnames with the same Vol & Page No's ... My understanding is that this is symptomatic of a child's birth being registered with both parents named but unmarried. Practice is then to index the child under both parents' surnames. And of c...

Re: Birth Re-registered after marriage
How sure are you that the two records really refer to the correct person, if you only have the GRO references? As sure as I can be without the the birth certificates - which I will of course apply for! On both Q1 1963 records the mother's maiden name is the same - and it is an unusual name and of c...

Re: Birth Re-registered after marriage
Hi Mike Thanks for the welcome The GRO record for Q3 1964 is the birth registration which I believe is where the change of name occurred. Logic says to me that the first birth record from Q1 1963 should be the one that is recorded although it is right that when the birth was re-registered in 1964, w...

Birth Re-registered after marriage
Hi. Relatively new to FH and I am not sure how to correctly enter details of a particular birth. A child was born in 1963 with no details of the father - so I have entered the birth with the mother's maiden name However, about 18 months later, It appears that the birth was re-registered with the Fat...
