Many thanks Lorna and Jane. I can see I'm going to be busy tidying up my map this evening.

Re: missing map pins

:D I've got four people buried at sea and they're all off the coast of Perth, Australia. Not sure how I've managed that. Am I right in thinking that I could separate them out by specifying a particular sea or ocean within the place? I've got a last known position for a submarine, but other than that...

Re: missing map pins

I went View - more workspace windows - map window. How do I select who or where to view? I haven't got a clue what I did before.
Thanks,

missing map pins

Good afternoon, I had a bit of spare time on my hands and made the mistake of reading some posts on the forum, which should have been a pleasant way to pass the time, but I've ended up with a bit of a mystery. I rarely look at the map window, but I'm convinced I used to have lots of map pins on ther...

Thanks Davidf. That would explain why I was baptised at my christening  My mum tied herself up in knots about it.

Re: FH Version 7

I saw Version 7 at RootsTech and wandered over for a proper look thinking 'not more people trying to make money out of me'. It is mind-blowingly good and I can't wait to get my hands on it :D

Re: Naturalization records

Just to add to the mix: My German great-grandparents were non-naturalised, living in London with both children born here. Their son, my grandfather, fought for Britain during the first world war and his sister's German fiance was interned at Knockaloe. After the war said fiance was deported and the ...

Re: Any one coming to Rootstech?

I’ll be there. Ancestry were offering a three day pass for £50 so I decided to give it a whirl. I bought an advance train ticket and booked the second cheapest place on booking.com which is surprising good. Still expensive, but should be fun.

Re: LDS Resource File Viewer

I’ve just found my discs in the spare bedroom! You are welcome to have them all - I only kept them because they cost so much at the time :D Viewer version 4.0 and the 1881 census.

Re: How can I map individuals from a Named List?

Hi Mike, I've just tried it with a few selected places to see what would happen. Some of the early entries into the database, particularly those which have been through a couple of changes of programme, don't have the country on the end of the place. They all turned up in the USA. The others have ma...

Re: How can I map individuals from a Named List?

I had never tried this feature but when I saw this thread I decided to give it a try. Can anyone explain why it has put Sittingbourne, Kent in Alaska and Bethnal Green in Ohio - not all of them, just the odd one. What do I need to do to make it work properly? This could be really useful. Many thanks...

Re: Help needed to write an expression

Many thanks for the help. I'll be using those expressions more than once and in different ways. At the moment I'm working on a reconstruction of the Penaluna family in Constantine in the 16th and 17th centuries using the remains of the early parish records, poll tax, wills etc. with far too many peo...

Re: Help needed to write an expression

Thanks Mike, that's what I needed. The sheer quantity of brackets alone is enough to defeat me, never mind the GEDCOM. I've run one on the diagram and got the results I needed and the rest are printed off and in my file of 'how to do it' - just in case I lose the post. I've been intimidated by the p...

Re: Help needed to write an expression

Thanks. I didn't know about the child count. The only issue I've got with that is that I've got to do it for each person - and there's an awful lot of them! :D

Help needed to write an expression

After a year or so of using Family Historian I've finally ventured into the realms of queries and icons - scary as I've never written a query which worked and usually go out of my way to avoid them. I've managed to create a few named lists by adjusting standard queries but now I'm stuck. I have two ...
