Re: Need GEDCOM export suggestions for FH to GedSite
Mike, I don't know why Carl saw the behavior he described. I can't diagnose it without more information, and Carl and I communicating here for GedSite support is a bad idea. I don't monitor the FH Forum for GedSite issues and I've had my wrist slapped a few times already for GedSite-support related ...

Re: Need GEDCOM export suggestions for FH to GedSite
Carl, et al, To answer a question from earlier in the thread, GedSite does implement the FH Witness() function. Also, regarding pronoun use, GedSite has several settings that control when/if it will use pronouns in place of names. Those settings are in the Data.Names section. The issue with the AgeA...

Re: Fact Note Sentence issue (TMG Imported template)
In the last few days I've had some email exchanges with John about the sentence renderings I was getting with my FH exports on my GedSite site. He was very helpful, and I was making progress, until he abruptly stopped, and told me to figure it out myself. I guess I asked too many dumb questions, or...

Re: Difference between {note} and {inline-note}?
OK, but you presumably had to jump through hoops to cope with the FH V7 changes as they are not backwards compatible. Other product developers may not be so accommodating. Yeah, this sort of thing is definitely a hassle. In this specific case, the actual changes were minimal, but deciding what to c...

Re: Difference between {note} and {inline-note}?
There is also a knock-on consequence for Projects exported to other products that has not been mentioned. Some products such as GedSite recognise Sentence Template codes and interpret them appropriately. GedSite would now have to recognise whether the Project was being exported from FH V6 or FH V7 ...

But in the nicest possible way - why should I, given that I've never had to carry out any special handling like that beforehand? I don't understand this comment at all....

Re: Difference between {note} and {inline-note}?
Mike, Disclaimer: As you know, I am not a regular user of FH and so my knowledge and recall of FH details is spotty. With regards to needing/wanting {note} for some text and {inline-note} for others, I thought users could override the sentence template for a particular fact. If so, then I guess the ...

Re: Difference between {note} and {inline-note}?
Thank you. I am curious why there needs to be a difference given a user could put a period and space before a {note} with <. {note}>. I assume there are other issues. I am more curious about how to handle {inline-note} if the note text includes "rich text" and thus may contain content that must be r...

Difference between {note} and {inline-note}?
What are the practical differences between {note} and {inline-note}? FH help says: Code: {note} Inserts the note, if any, associated with the relevant fact. Is most suitable for long notes, such as notes which contain one or more whole sentences. The {note} code is normally the last code in the sent...

You wrote, "BUT template 3 is now entering an Address." What is the evidence that template 3 is doing that? Based on the template, I see no address data. When you watch the Auto Type template in action, do you see any address data entered into the field? The template appears to leave the window open...

Re: Gedsite displaying Text from Source instead of Media
To expand on the solution provided by GedSite 4.01... I am not an FH expert so I may not use terminology 100% correctly. GedSite builds citations and source page entries using FH Source Templates. The templates include references to fields such as "{Author}", "{Title}", "{Page}", etc. Other programs...

Re: Family Historian 7, Ancestral Sources 7 & Gedsite do not play well together
The current version of GedSite does not support some new features in FH7. If a source uses FH7 source templates, the GEDCOM file does not include the records that GedSite uses to create source entries. The good news is, I am mostly done with modifications to support new features in FH7 including sou...

Re: GEDCOM 7.0
Reading the posting by James Tanner, two things caught my attention: (1) he overlooks GEDCOM 5.5.1 completely! (2) he suggests that date phrases, ranges and periods did not exist before! I wonder how long it will take for products to adopt GEDCOM 7.0 since few have fully adopted GEDCOM 5.5/5.5.1 ye...

I was forced into a reboot without warning, luckily, the blue screen was brought up, and I had the option to force close and reboot anyway , or return to Windows, I chose to return to Windows, where I was faced with the do you want to reboot now or later message box from FH. That reboot behavior al...

Re: Do TMG Custom Tags go to FH Attributes or Events?
When you make a change to a TMG Tag Type, the effect is immediate. Tags (names and events) keep a pointer to the Tag Type record and so there is no need for TMG to update tag instances due to a change to the Tag Type record. There may be an exception related to deleting roles, but that's not an issu...

So avoid performing the Address trimming in Lua script because commas may appear to exist within UTF-8 multi-byte encodings. Only use the FH trimming functions. Mike, UTF-8 was carefully designed such that the value of any ASCII character (< 0x7F) would not appear as a byte value within a multi-byt...

I have seen RESN in GEDCOM files exported from FTM. I have not seen them elsewhere, but there are a lot of FTM users. I just added RESN tests to GEDCOM Assessment and I will be releasing a new version later today that includes those tests. Within a few weeks, the existing assessments will be updated...

Re: Adding a second place to a fact
Mike, I am not an expert FH user. When entering an event in FH, I do not recall seeing anywhere to enter an address value separately from the place value. Perhaps I just missed it or do not remember correctly. Luckily, my recollection of FH doesn't matter to GedSite. It supports PLAC and ADDR for al...

Re: Export Gedcom enhancement?
Mike and Colin, In my opinion, it's wrong to create a MARR record with a subordinate TYPE record of "Never Married" and similar "no marriage occurred" values. The second assertion contradicts the first. So, I agree with Mike's comment that some family status values are not rational as MARR.TYPE valu...

Re: Adding a second place to a fact
Rich, As Mike and Helen have indicated, GedSite does support multiple places for an event and when processing FH sentences, it converts the {_place2} variable to [L:I3]. if you are using FH sentences, the 2nd place should work without you doing anything other than using the {_place2} variable. If yo...
