Re: Incorrect data added
Just a postscript to this stream: The log was very instructive. I'm afraid the additional entries were down to human error on my part by not clearing suggested parental occupations from the AS entry screen. Like many users, I am catching up on lots of old data to be entered into fH with their associ...

Re: Incorrect data added
Thank you for your comments and suggestion. I've been away for the last 48hrs but will search the log tomorrow. It seemed bizarre that deaths were added to a baptism and the parental occupations to other baptisms when father's baptism wasn't included on the non-conformist register. I'll look closer ...

Incorrect data added
I have come across some anomalies in a project and wonder whether anybody else has experienced the same. Very occasionally, over the last year, I've come across an anomalous entry, a wrong fact, associated with an individual. In the past I wondered whether it was human error, had arisen in my origin...

Re: Source templates
I only managed to migrate my main file from Generations to FH last year. Generations had its own Source Templates but nothing like the templates of FH. GRO entries have now been placed in Notes in generic sources and I'm perfectly happy to leave them as is. As I load census images, Ancestral Sources...

Re: Where's the data?
Thank you Mike. Yes, it is 'Witness role' and, as far as I recall, I'm fairly sure I clicked 'Add'. They were a bunch of, mainly Catholic, Canadian baptisms which I added recently. My only hesitation/doubt is that I wrote both godparents in the space rather than one at a time. Could I have confused ...

Re: Where's the data?
Thank you, Brent, for an insightful reply. I did not realise Source Templates needed to be switched on and I'm sure that will make a huge difference. The gedcom Facts do get updated, but I shall also look at the Autotext templates. Thank you, Mike, again, for the clarification. I had tried double-cl...

Where's the data?
I have only been using AS this year, largely for census entries but occasionally for marriage and baptism records. I love AS for data entry and have used it considerably in recent weeks. However, only recently I have noticed that when the AS data is saved to FamilyHistorian it does so as generic sou...

Re: Viewing media files in Sources
Mike, Thank you for your detailed response. I am reassured to say that there were no unlinked files. Furthermore, using the two optiuons you describe I was able to show the media images. Previously, there were plenty of occasions when I clicked on a Source and then its media tab nothing appeared. I ...

Viewing media files in Sources
Hi, I'm looking for advice or help in viewing my media files. I'm using v.7.0.11 on Windows 10 and in recent months have been uploading media files, where appropriate, to Sources. The file appears as a thumbnail and both Source and Media file are saved. However, when I later view the Source I can no...

Re: Importing from 'Generations'
Incidentally, I checked several Exception reports dating back to 2016 and they all produced NOTE.SOUR.SOUR. There were no NOTE.TEXT.SOUR lines at all.

Re: Importing from 'Generations'
I attach the All screengrab for Sources 112 and 114, though 113 is equally uncluttered by UDFs. Source 112.jpg Source 114.jpg As I mentioned before, the bit of Source gedcom from the 22nd was, inadvertently, taken from a slightly earlier iteration of the file. For yesterday's migration I used a pris...

Re: Importing from 'Generations'
Hi Mike, Thanks. I had run your amended Generations Post Edit then ran UDF list and saved that as a text file, then as a spreadsheet. Then did a global conversion of ADDR to RESI with Change Any Fact Tag, checked the result and re-ran UDF list. I repeated the process for MILI to Military Service. Af...

Re: Importing from 'Generations'
Mike, I'm delighted to say that, after several previous attempts, I took the plunge, imported a pristine file and, after some global replacements and rather more individual edits, produced a gedcom with no more UDFs. There's more work to do to exploit FH's scope, but thank you so much for your help,...

Re: Importing from 'Generations'
I don't pretend to be fluent in the GEDCOM syntax and had not noticed the anomalies, especially the concatenation. I feel, though, somewhat gratified that my difficulties on previous attempts were related more to the Generations software than my own incompetence and I'm delighted finally to have sou...

Re: Importing from 'Generations'
Thank you, again. I wasn't expecting such a rapid response. I have checked FH and it is v.6.2.7 Mike, Thank you. I understand about the ADDR > RESI transfer, and you're right, all the addresses in Generations were on a single line with the citations in-line. My apologies for any inconsistency betwee...

Re: Importing from 'Generations'
P.S. - Incidentally, there was another set of UDF Source Texts which related to Detail on a Source citation in Generations. An example is given below of a citation to an LDS FamilySearch film. Detail.jpg This seems to have been a Generations idiosyncrasy. Why they were created I'm not sure as the ob...

Re: Importing from 'Generations'
Hi Mike, Many thanks indeed for your helpful post. I have spent many hours over the last few days experimenting and testing Change Any Fact. Firstly, an admission. I have not lost any data. I had, erroneously, been comparing the migrated file with an earlier iteration. A detailed comparison of the f...

Re: Importing from 'Generations'
Jane: Thank you for your reply. Simple answer is 'No'. There are no markers within the gedcom Notes field (see below). Furthermore, I have been tying up some of the UDF List entries to the records in Generations & FH. The first Notes citation is included in FH but the remainder are starred as UDFs. ...

Re: Importing from 'Generations'
Over the last decade I've tried several times to migrate my main file of ~2000 individuals and ~2000 sources to FH and give up after a few days. The main problem is the huge number of UDFs relating to inline Notes citations, the handling of the Details note, as noted above, but also the anomalous us...
