Re: Corrupt Gedcom and Lost Media

I restored the Dropbox 2.50 pm Gedcom file and it ran without any issues and appears to contain all the data I can remember including. The whole process only took a few seconds. Incidentally Dropbox keeps all the other files in place so it is possible to revert if necessary. Very many thanks for you...

Re: Corrupt Gedcom and Lost Media

Please see a small sample list of Dropbox files attached. I assume that the Gedcom file is potentially amended by autosave every 5 minutes and when a change occurs the file is automatically uploaded to Dropbox. (I have 1 CB of store available) There are a large number of previously saved files in Dr...

Re: Corrupt Gedcom and Lost Media

Snapshots folder contents attached. Yes the links between individuals and spouses, parents and children are all missing. My source and citation records are in the Notes (inherited from my previous old genealogy program) and Notes do not appear to have been corrupted. File Stats attached. I will expo...

Re: Corrupt Gedcom and Lost Media

I attach the .fh_data file

Since my last message I have discovered that all the links between Individuals are also missing.

Re: Corrupt Gedcom and Lost Media

The Autosave option is enabled at 5 minutes. On more careful examination I think I lost less than one hour but certainly more than 5 minutes of data entry. About 6 new individuals with notes I had just added are not present (which took more than 5 minutes to enter) but I will add these manually from...

Corrupt Gedcom and Lost Media

Preamble: Whilst I was entering data taken from a web-page into an Individual record the computer suddenly "froze" for no apparent reason. I use Windows 7 on a fairly powerful laptop. I have not experienced this before. I tried Ctrl-Alt-Del but no response. I then switched off the power and restarte...

Re: Pools

Please advise me. The “All Relatives Diagram” does what the name suggests and displays only the relatives of the individual shown at the top of the record box and the spouses shown in the lower part. So if for example the individual is a male with no recorded parents, one wife but no children there ...

Re: Pools

Many Thanks The filter works as expected, except: Couples both with the one-name and one with no parents recorded show as tree-tops. These are small in number and can be dealt with manually. There are several examples where the "Pool" function does not appear to have worked correctly. These are isol...

Re: Pools

Many thanks David In my one-name study I do not record the parents of spouses who do not have the one-name. So such spouses appear in the result list for the TreeTops query. I tried removing the exclude clause from the row but the spouses remained in the list. Can you please suggest other clauses wh...

Pools

My one-name Coldwell study comprises several unconnected large sized trees, some medium sized trees ... down to couples and individuals. Total 17,000 persons. Groups of connected individuals are identified using Pool numbers (about 1600). I plan to do more study to associate some if not all Pools/Tr...

Re: Notes

Atten. Mike Tate Thanks for your comments and detailed explanation of Notes which I think I understand. However that does not solve the problem. I think I may have 7 "rogue" Notes in the Notes Record window which do not appear to belong to any record (or if they do I have failed to find the record) ...

Re: Notes

I have used the "Clean Up Notes" Plugin. The situation now is that the View>Records Lists>Notes list in the Focus Window shows just 7 Notes items each with a line of text. There are several thousand notes shown in other records which do not appear on the list. I have tried to find out if there is an...

Notes

I have recently transferred my database (17,000 names) from an old out-of-date unsupported program (GreatFamily) to Family Historian 6. The old program had a page with a single Note box, like the individual record in FH Main tab, in which I entered a mixture of all types of data not accommodated by ...

Re: Search and replace quarter dates

Brilliant program! All 7000 dates changed automatically with only a handful requiring manual correction (due to typos in the original dates and not a failure of the program) Very many thanks to the author,

Search and replace quarter dates

I have several thousand imported marriage quarter dates which appear as "Mar Qtr ****" etc.
(****is the year number e.g 1851)
How can I replace these with non-text standard dates e.g Q1 1851 ?

Combining individualsi in differnet Pools

I have a an unmarried son with ancestors in one Tree (or Pool) and I have discovered that the same man now married with decedents is in a different Pool. It seems that to combine the data I have to link individuals and copy their details one by one to the new location. Is there a way of moving and c...

Multiple trees

The present state of my one-name Coldwell study is that my data consists of several unconnected large sized trees, some medium sized trees ... down to couples and unassociated individuals. Total 17,000 persons. I hope to do more study to associate some if not all trees and for that reason all the da...

I am having difficulty understanding diagrams admittedly in an unusual but real situation with close cousins getting married. I find that there are a confusing number of lines. The example diagram (FH chart) is almost too difficult to understand largely because the parents are duplicated and the man...

Standardising Place Names

As a newcomer I have just loaded my GEDCOM into FH6. The tree has been built-up over 30 years and contains 17000 names. Pleased that I had no problems in getting all my data into FH including a large number of notes and images. I find that I have used many different versions of place names over the ...

Customising Trees

When I find a "new" person to add to my one-name study I like to use the tree as an aid to locating which family this individual belongs to. To do that I want to see the children and parent boxes with the parents siblings on the same screen. I am a newbe and find that there is a large vertical separ...
