Re: How to split or copy an individual
I would be inclined to Unlink the record, create a new record in the correct family, copy/paste/ the applicable facts to the new record, then delete those facts from the unlinked record. Sounds tedious, but ...

Re: Non-existent, unlinked media
What a dope. All that mousing around and all I had to do was hit DEL. Are there any more 'hidden' short cut keys?
Thanks again, Mike. You can take the rest of the day off.

Non-existent, unlinked media
I have some media files that do not exist and have no links but they appear on the Media List
How do I get them off the list?

Shade diagram box via query
I've run out of ideas for searching this subject. If this horse has already been beaten to death, please point me to the topic or the KB article. I want to persistently shade or otherwise format diagram boxes according to specific criteria. For example, I want to shade all records where age at death...

Replacing marriage witness
I need to replace a marriage witness entered via AS with another individual (who has the same name). As the facts were entered via AS, I'm having trouble making this correction. The Witness 'fact' can't be copied. There is no "Witness" fact type and I don't want to create one just for this purpose. ...

Re: <with {other=resident}> in Residence Sentence Template
I get the point that Fact Witnesses are inferior to individual census events. I wouldn't replace the AS approach with witnesses, but the belts & suspenders approach yields additional narrative detail that can be useful. In those cases, I'll suffer the additional mouse clicks. Cheers.

Re: <with {other=resident}> in Residence Sentence Template
Thanks again, Mike.
That adds a couple of steps to a census entry. I don't suppose the attribution of resident witnesses can be automated (ie. with AS)?

<with {other=resident}> in Residence Sentence Template
I've noticed the subject phrase in the sentence template of the default Residence fact definition.
How do I get the result to list the other residents who share the same Residence fact?

Re: Biting the bullet
Thank you all for those insights. With less than 3K records and no real deadline, I've decided to stick to my plan of re-entering my records from FTM to FH. I've already 'polished' a few records I thought were already optimal. This approach will not be without tedium, but I'm confident it will yield...

Biting the bullet
When Ancestry cut FTM loose, I tried several alternatives, including Family Historian. As I experimented with RM, MH and Legacy it became clear that FH is in a class of its own. Being so feature-rich and versatile, however, means complexity and a steep learning path. I confess, I was intimidated wit...

Re: Renaming Media Files
Thanks, Jane. I've checked out your plugin and the concept would work brilliantly. I'm tempted to indulge in the experiment of modifying the plugin, which I'm sure in the right hands would be elementary. In my case, however - a digression I must resist. If you find the time, johnmorrisoniom's reques...

Thanks Trevor, your method worked fine. I have a few hundred poorly named media files so I'll try Jane's plugin.

Renaming Media Files
How can I rename files already linked to records?
I like the way AS names media files as it copies them into FH but I need to go back and tidy up my existing media filenames. I've searched but can't find the procedure for doing this within FH.

Re: FH V6.1 and FTM Citation Media
Please add me to the list of FTM refugees who have felt tortured by FH's media methodology. Thank you Darryl for your comprehensive post. While I can live with accessing media via the "View media linked . . ." method, it is very frustrating to click on the Properties "Show Media" button and not see ...

Re: MyHeritage cost
As a refugee from FTM, I'm considering subscribing to MyHeritage. I understand there is a discount for year 1 of a MyHeritage subscription for FH users. That discount isn't reflected in the prices cited within FH compared to the prices cited externally. Am I missing something?

Re: Merging duplicate facts
Thanks Mike. I get your drift. In FTM, the process starts with a Data Error report with the option to only show "Possible duplicate events". I believe this selects events (facts) with identical labels. The values may be different. Double clicking on the report row opens the person's detail (ie. 'Pro...

Merging duplicate facts
I am a recent FTM 'refugee' searching for a suitable desktop replacement. FH seems a very strong candidate. For a variety of reasons, my tree contains many duplicate facts. FTM 2014 has a feature that enables the merging of duplicate facts that eases the workload by enabling comparison and selecting...
