Re: Step-Children in Descendant Diagram, and other Quibbles
 No, I didn't do most of those things!! (I DID use the avoid page boundaries option, but that generally led to children being separated from both of their parents, so was only helpful up to a point.) At my first attempt I had a splendid diagram that I saved as a PDF. The next day I realised th...

Re: Step-Children in Descendant Diagram, and other Quibbles
I seem to have solved one problem only to have encountered a worse one! Spent HOURS trying to paginate the diagram for saving / printing and I am driven demented. I keep getting the first few pages exactly right but as soon as I try to move something on a later page the entire thing goes completely ...

Re: Step-Children in Descendant Diagram, and other Quibbles
OK, thanks again! I have now managed to include the 'missing' biological parents by inserting their descendant trees into the diagram, then hiding the duplicate spouses and descendants of the step-children (I've kept the ones under the step-parents visible, in this case, but might do it differently ...

Re: Step-Children in Descendant Diagram, and other Quibbles
OK, thanks to all and I will reply to each post in in turn. Mike - yes, all of the relationships and offspring are in the correct sequences. In both cases a woman married, had a child and then was widowed. She then married one of the direct descendants of the diagram root. In both cases the woman's ...

Re: Step-Children in Descendant Diagram, and other Quibbles
Hi Lorna, Thanks for your reply. 1. My diagram already shows the descendants of the other partners, but omits the other partners, so the step-children are there but both of their biological parents are not. It looks as though they are the children of their parent and step-parent, which is confusing ...

Step-Children in Descendant Diagram, and other Quibbles
I want to produce a descendant diagram that includes step-children, but also shows their biological parents. In other words, I want all of a descendant's spouse's other partners to be shown. Does anyone know how to achieve this, please? Another issue is with someone who had children by a lover while...

Re: Guidance for Upgrade to FH7?
Thanks Mark, I will set aside some time over the next few days to work through all of this carefully, as it would be easy to miss something if I try to rush through it in an odd half hour.

Re: Guidance for Upgrade to FH7?
Hi Mark,
That's great, thank you very much.
I have a couple of questions:
Sue
That's great, thank you very much.
I have a couple of questions:
- How do I back up my settings?
- If I have selected 'full project backup' on closing FH, does that mean that my project is fully backed up, or do I need to do anything else?

Guidance for Upgrade to FH7?
My apologies, I have tried to search for this information but the search function will not accept 'upgrade' as a search term and searching for 'FH7' now gives well over 600 results. I previously (a few weeks ago) found all the information re how to upgrade somewhere ... but where? I currently have v...

Re: Optional Parents
Thanks for your replies, Jane & Mike. Yes, I have the tree set up at present with the same person having two sets of parents, but I am unsure how Ancestry might handle this? I guess I can just upload it and see what happens, but thought I'd ask here first in case anyone knew the 'best' way to procee...

Optional Parents
Does anyone know a way to create a tree to link to DNA results on Ancestry that caters for uncertainty about a parental relationship? As in, mother's family fully known but father's family could be one of two alternatives? I have asked Ancestry and they said no. I have tried all of the options I can...

Re: FH Project Folders
You both make useful points. I do keep a lot of emails in my inbox, only because I find it tiresome to spend ages going through them to delete the dross and save the interesting but unimportant ones. All of the important emails are safely stored somewhere else. Nothing is irreplaceable. I used to ma...

Re: FH Project Folders
It would be better to save an FH Full Backup of the Project and then More Tasks > Delete Project altogether, so it just exists in your Backup folder rather than comprise the FH Project structures. I have already done that, of course, and also backed up the backups on an external drive. OK, you're r...

Re: FH Project Folders
Btw I have just found a use for sub-folders - they are useful for storing FH Projects that you'll probably never need again because you've merged them into your main Project. Worth keeping for a while, at least, and don't clutter anything up in the meantime.

Re: Ancestry Changes
... Before I repeat all my efforts for my 8cM matches, can you please advise whether you still think I might lose some of these from my list of matches at the end of August? ... Ancestry now shows the decimal place for low matches so you'll see 7.9cM if you look now where you previously saw 8cM. So...

Re: FH Project Folders
Hi Mike, I've been thinking about this and it's true that I can easily add prefixes to the Project names to group them together in pretty much any way I want to. As I don't need to alter the existing Project names in any other way, it won't disrupt my existing naming policy. In fact, the problem wit...

Re the value of shared cM that you need to act on - if you want to. Re: FH Project Folders
Thanks Mike, I'll reply in the same order that you did. That's good, I don't want to be hunting for my Projects all over my hard drive. (This also covers your later paragraph re having a folder elsewhere for my 'other' projects ... unless when you read the rest of my reply you can see why that might...

FH Project Folders
In addition to my main FH Projects I have a growing number of small Projects for the trees of people who are DNA matches, but I am still unsure how we are related. I also have a few Projects for people I am otherwise interested in, but not related to (examples being families that feature in local hi...

Re: How Can I 'Flag' Something That I Can Easily See in Focus View?
As suggested in the article I referenced, if you have Windows 10 , then try Snip & Sketch that replaces the Snipping Tool or you even use the good old Windows Paint tool. Thanks Mike, my PC has also told me about Snip & Sketch, which is even better! I will look out for opportunities to use it so th...

Re: How Can I 'Flag' Something That I Can Easily See in Focus View?
Thank you yet again. Aha, yes, I could see the second flag when I dragged the property box wider, but the layout was very odd. I didn't know that the label length would be important and was just trying to make the meaning clear. I hadn't altered - or considered - the alignment and width values but t...

Re: How Can I 'Flag' Something That I Can Easily See in Focus View?
Mike, sorry to trouble you again. I have got the first flag to display with no problems, however the second one recorded in 'Part 2' is not being displayed? 'Part 2' has definitely been saved so I guess there must be something amiss with either the way I have set up the flag or the data under 'Part ...

Re: How Can I 'Flag' Something That I Can Easily See in Focus View?
Hi Mike, I'm sorry, I realised that as soon as I read all of today's replies. I need to use FH because it is the only place where everyone is either already recorded or can be quickly and easily added. Not everyone is in my card indexes, partly because I always have an indexing backlog as the proces...
