Re: One Name Studies
For my Vousden One Name Study there was no question as to whether or not to include or separate the study because my first Vousden was my grandmother, Agnes Minnie Lucy Vousden. In Family Historian I flag each of the lines of my four grandparents, and I just see all the Vousdens as "my family&q...

Not on the map? You should try being born, brought up and living in the Black Country.

Re: GedSite and Family Historian
Thank you all for your responses/suggestions. The answer was, as Mike pointed out, staring me in the face, a missing {note} in the Fact template. I am not new to creating web sites; I have 4 others that I have coded from scratch in html/css, so I think perhaps I need to be more patient with GedSite ...

GedSite and Family Historian
I am struggling with a problem in GedSite (purchased a few days ago) not implementing Fact Note content from Family Historian. I cannot see the option to include it in the Narrative content in either the GedSite program or the Export Gedcom File plugin. For me, the Narrative content is essential to ...

What about "associates", having a similar meaning to the use of the term in FH.

Media and Place Links
I make extensive use of Individual Narrative reports and also of picture media to illustrate the places where my ancestors lived, worked, were baptised, married etc. This works well in these reports. Since starting to use FH 4 years ago I have linked picture to facts, but inconsistently in the early...

Re: Advice Needed from TMG Users Who Switched to FH
Hello Beetle, I used TMG for 15 years and now FH for about 3 (is it that long?). I trialled and compared RootsMagic, Legacy and FH, and for me FH was the clear front runner. The transition from one product to the other was relatively straightforward with some help from the excellent User Group Forum...

Knowledge Base Index and suggestions for topics
Mike, you have just asked: "BTW: We are growing a Knowledge Base > Knowledge Base Index and suggestions for topics will be welcomed." For me, a most useful addition would be a "Getting Ready to Map Places" section, giving a step by step guide to preparing Place definitions, how b...

Re: Show Project Statistics updated plugin
Mike, I have just downloaded your updated Show Project Statistics v1.9.2. Before I installed it I ran the old version first, all OK, as normal. Running the new 1.9.2 the plugin stalled first time, showing no grid or data in the tables; an error message showed up saying something about Grid Data but ...

Re: How to split or copy an individual
Thank you for the ideas. I have used the Clone Any Record plugin to create a duplicate individual, followed by some unlinking and relinking and deletion of facts as appropriate from the two individuals to create exactly what I want. It took less than 10 minutes. My 2 x great grandfather is now back ...

How to split or copy an individual
Our 2 x great grandfather (c1821-75) is a man of mystery who turns up in Staffordshire in 1859 aged 38, marries and has three children, born in Hampshire (as per 1861 Census) and father John (as per marriage certificate). After many years of searching we found a family with father and son of right n...

Re: Recording GRO Index Birth/Death sources
Mike,
Thank you for the advice about usage and sentence template code. It works perfectly, of course. I have dropped the word "shortly" so now it reads "born/died before or during the period...".

Recording GRO Index Birth/Death sources
I am not happy with my many hundreds of records of Births and Deaths where the source is the GRO Index and only "quarter dates" are given because we do not know if the event took place during the quarter, only the registration. Is it possible to modify the standard Birth/Death Facts, or cr...

Re: Find my Past... or Ancestry ?
I have Ancestry and Findmypast, also The Genealogist which I have had the longest although I probably won't be able to justify financially having all three for much longer. If push came to shove between Ancestry and FMP I would probably go for Ancestry. However, their transcriptions e.g. census are ...

Re: Letters as sources
I have devised two custom facts very similar to Mike's. I have "Correspondence with" using Fact "{date} {individual} corresponded< with {value}>< of {_place}>" that produces output (in Individual Narrative, others not checked) of "On 1 January 2020 he corresponded with Fred ...

Re: Duplicate Source Records
First thing to do is to check that the source record you are going to delete is not cited. If it is, change the citation(s) to the source record that will remain. Once that is done, in the Records Window highlight the source to be deleted, select Edit then select Delete. It will ask you if you are s...
