Re: Census and residence used together
Range "facts" can be quite problematic. I lived at the same Shirley address from 1973 - 1990 and 1999-2006 but elsewhere in between. If someone failed to pick up on the intervening residencies then they could easily record me as being resident in Shirley from 1973 - 2006. Any "fact" we record from p...

Re: FH7 Full backup very slow
I may have found the problem. Changed windows 10 network adapter speed/duplex setting from auto-negotiation to 100Mb full duplex. Full backup just took 1minute 11 which feels about right. Almost 5 minutes faster than it has been running. I wonder if one of this year's windows updates played with or ...

Thanks for the tips Mark. I reckon I can do that - I've got the boxes and cable. I'll have a go this weekend.

Re: FH7 Full backup very slow
Right, some more information: 1. My network is wired and if working properly should be a 1 gigabit network. But is clearly not operating at that kind of speed. Something I will need to investigate. 2. My test copy was simply that with no compression. 3. I have just done what Mike suggested and sent ...

Re: FH7 Full backup very slow
Hi Jane, I shall give that a try at some point and see if compression is the issue. After my first post I ran a LAN speed test and the 6 Mbps upload speed it quoted looks suspiciously slow. I think I will have to do a thorough network check to see if there are any bottlenecks or faulty settings. Dri...

FH7 Full backup very slow
Hi all, I would be very interested to know if other FH7 users are experiencing slower backups. A 464 file full backup (FH7) just took 5 minutes 49 seconds. As a comparson I took a copy of the entire project folder using windows explorer (464 files 264MB) which took only 2 minutes 59 seconds. In both...

Re: Family Historian user perspective of the data structure - evidence and assertions
Or even Evidentia which is cheaper and has youtube tutorials. https://evidentiasoftware.com/ Evidentia is probably best used for difficult cases. It can seem like overkill for simple easily proved genealogy links. It does however tie in to Gedcom and also uses Elizabeth Shown Mills citations. If you...

Re: Copying PLACES and ADDRESSES to new project
Hi Mike,
Thanks for giving this some thought and spotting the flaws in my theory. But it does seem there is some mileage to be had from lateral thinking! Cheers

Re: Copying PLACES and ADDRESSES to new project
Just a thought. There might be some milage in adding a dummy unrelated individual or individuals to a project to which multiple addresses, places and even sources can be attached. These individuals could then be copied into other projects. Care would need to be taken not to include said individuals ...

You might like to take a look at Gedsite by John Cardinal. It has excellent web browser functionality and takes in all sorts of gedcom files. It's very configurable. John has also just released a new application called Gedcom Publisher for creating Family History eBooks. Checkout http://www.gedsite....

Re: Diagrams in web site and CD
Hi Mike, Yes, it does produce tree views with hyperlinks. There's also no need to publish a tree or buy online space. You can just view the website on your local machine. It's very flexible and if you know what you are doing you can also use it for producing reports. I actually produce family histor...

You might also want to take a look at the great Gedsite software by John Cardinal. It's great for producing websites from GEDCOM files and is getting better all the time. See here: http://www.gedsite.com

Re: GEDCOM past and future
Thanks for your updates, Adrian and David. My reading of the situation is very much the same as Adrian's. And, unless the other major players go with Gedcom X, it really doesn't matter what FamilySearch do with it internally - even if it is a better specification!

Re: GEDCOM past and future
David, Thanks for the GEDCOM X link. I've just had a look, and I'm not sure where Gedcom X is now at. The last blog is dated October 2015. It may well exist as a working specification but that is of no use if none of the major genealogy software companies are planning on implementing it. This statem...

Re: How to correctly record date and place from BMD Index entries
The approach I have taken is to create new custom facts for Birth, Marriage and Death registration. I use these to record the registration details including the registration district, volume and page. I use Q1, Q2 Q3 and Q4 in the date field for those custom facts. Let's suppose I have no better bir...

Re: End of Line Marker
This is one of those situations where I think flag use is justified. I use a flag called "Dead End" when I think I've got as far as I'm going to get with an individual. I then use that flag to colour the individual's box on diagrams. Because there are many reasons why you might think you have reache...

Re: Source Record Id
Thanks Nick,
I've just had a quick look but couldn't work out how to use RecordID() in a query. I'll have better look later when I've got some free time. But it's good to hear it's available somewhere! Watching the European Athletics right now so can only respond/try things in between events.

Source Record Id
I would like to write a new report (outside of Family Historian) showing Source Titles and their accompanying Source Record Ids. Simple question, is the Source Record Id available as a field to show in a query? If so, what is it's reference - %SOUR.???%
