Re: US Census 1940

I am deeply embarrassed, and it's my own fault. I have never - until now - bothered to look at the supplemental questions section at the bottom of the census page. I just got to the right-hand column, and left it at that. I don't think any of the people I've investigated actually appeared in that se...

Re: US Census 1940

Thanks Nick, Your solution looks easy enough even for me to use. It does give rise to a further question: if those other columns, including the ones about birthplace of parents, don't show on the Ancestry image, do they exist on the original paper copy, and if so, is there anywhere that they can be ...

US Census 1940

When using AS7 to input details from the 1940 US Census, the AS Template shows a lot of columns that do not appear in the census form - or at least, in the version of the census form that is shown by Ancestry. Using AS7 'auto text' the result is that in the 'text from source' tab of the source/citat...

Removing duplicated fact

Hi, At some time in my early use of FH, I tried to create various custom attributes including 'Beneficiary', but failed to make them visible, and thought I had failed in my attempts, so tried again. Consequently, in my 'fact types', I now have two of these attributes listed, one working and one unus...

Re: Highlight complete selected row in Records Window

(I hope I've not misunderstood the original wish.)
To make it easier to track across columns in the records window, I simply expand the record (click on the + sign at the left): the record I'm tracking is then separated from the next one by the expanded details.

Hi Mike,
Could the site you're looking for be part of, or in some way related to, the Old Weather Project, which uses volunteers to transcribe ships' logs to study weather conditions in past times? See https://www.oldweather.org/index.html.

Accesssing Knowledge Base

I am unable to access the Knowledge Base, despite having tried to do so via various different links. Every time, I get a message telling me to I check my config and permission settings and/or run the installer? Where and how do I do that, please? I have used the knowledge base before, but not for qu...

Re: Ellen Allen

Hi Brian, This will probably not help in tracing the records you are looking for, but may explain why you can't find them. According to 'Ancestral Trails' by Mark Herber, "The [registration system] was thought to be effective for the registration of marriages. However, Foster reveals defects in...

Re: 'Living' flag

Thanks, both of you. I remember that I had customized the property box (and that stayed the same); but I didn't - and still don't- recall ever following the steps to add the icon. I can only accept that I must have done so, and all is now working as I wanted it. Best regards.

'Living' flag

I have boxes showing on the Individual property box for the standard 'Living' and 'Private' flags. I have ticked these boxes for a number of individuals, and until recently, when these individuals appeared in any diagram (such as 'all descendants'), a 'living' or 'private' marker appeared alongside ...
