For those who may be interested, the book is definitely on the US Amazon.con site.

Re: Google Drive
Good morning, I'm writing this from memory, so bear with me. In general... 1. Download the program from www.freefilesync.org. The site has lots of tutorials 2. Sign in to Google Drive and create a destination folder to store your family history backup. 3. Open FreeFileSync. 4. On the left side choos...

Re: Google Drive
Another option I have found useful is using "FreeFileSync" to directly backup to Google Drive without the need to have Google Drive app installed on your system. The program is well developed, very configurable and free.

Re: Setting Custom Colors
Well, nothing worked. I did a "Restart". That didn't make a difference. I did a complete FH uninstall/reinstall. I created a completely new project with no gedcom. The "Apply" button still greyed out and unable to change any colors. I recreated the Sample project. Again, the Appl...

Re: Setting Custom Colors
Mike,
Thanks for the input.
Yes, in all other instances I never saw the Apply button greyed out. But it was in this particular situation.
I'll try your suggestions and give feedback.

Setting Custom Colors
I am running FH 7 on Windows 10 21H2. I am trying to customize a few colors in the Focus Window and Property Box. It seems that FH does not want to cooporate. When I select the new color using the color picker window, the new color will migrate to the list of items on the left. But when I select &qu...

Re: Restoring Settings to New OS Build
I'm not totally surprised because there are more Date-Time formats than I realised. The attached Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings plugin Version 3.3.1 Date 28 Mar 22 uses a new technique that should cope with far more formats. Does it work for you? If not, what are your Windows settings...

Re: Restoring Settings to New OS Build
Sorry about that. I have moved this to the Plugin Discussions forum where the same problem has been reported and a fix is being checked in the posting 20493|Problem setting up new laptop . Does the plugin attached there also fix your problem? Mike, Thank you for your efforts in fixing the issue. Th...

Restoring Settings to New OS Build
Greetings, I've run into an issue restoring FH settings onto a new install using Win 10 Pro v. 21H2. I upgraded my OS from 7. Download and installation of FH seemed to go smooth. However, using the "Backup and Restore Plugin v3.2" I get the following error. The plugin freezes from there. I...

Re: Census and residence used together
I totally agree, In my thinking the census is more like a secondary source (at best), and should be considered just another piece of evidence to support the facts and help form a conclusion.

Re: Census and residence used together
I struggled with this question for years and finally settled on the conclusion that a census is not a fact. It is rather a source document containing information about facts (residence, occupation, age, etc., etc). That has worked quite well for me over the years.

Removing a Non Existant Place entry
I've been spending some time cleaning up Places in my database using <Work with Data> <Places>. The resulting Place List shows a Cemetery in the Part 1 column. The issue is that this Cemetery does not exist within my database (as far as I can determine). The Place List "Used" column shows ...

Re: Best way to capture images
I had that issue of trying to capture folded documents while at the National Archives in Washington, DC. I was using my camera to make digital copies on a tabletop. I wish I had thought of Mike Tate's idea. Would have worked well, I think. I ended up using the weight of thin, oversized books on two ...

Here is an interesting article by Woody Leonhard at Infoworld that offers some things to consider in making the decision whether to upgrade or not.

Mike, your points are well taken. I do think I should be looking at cloud based backup sites, not syncing sites.

Re: Wish- Direct Backup to Google Drive, etc.
Mike, Thank you for the post along with the Knowledge Base links. I had looked at the Google Drive link earlier. The problem I'm running up against is that I prefer not to use "file sync" as a backup method. When I tried Google Drive software, I found that if a file in my computer's sync f...

Thank you all.
ColeValleyGirl, Looking again at the backup options, I do see the network option. I suspect that is what you're referring to. I will have to study that. Have never used it before. Thanks.

Wish- Automatic Internet Data Matching with Familysearch
Although MyHeritage is quite nice, having the option to match data with Familysearch would greatly expand the searches. There are many records available at Familysearch that are not available at MyHeritage. Of course, another nice thing is that Familysearch charges no subscription fee!

Wish- Direct Backup to Google Drive, etc.
Did not see this request in the list.
It would be very convenient to add the option of backing up Family Historian files directly to Google Drive, or other online repositories.

Re: Source Citation Methods 1 & 2
Absolutely! Yes, I agree. Both methods are equally appropriate depending on the type of source used. And, as I see it, this begs the question why Family Historian does not equally accomodate the use of both methods. Or, perhaps it does and I am missing something?

Re: Source Citation Methods 1 & 2
Obviously, there are differing opinions. I think the truth is neither method is superior to the other. Family Historian should be flexible enough to accomodate both methods equally by simply allowing a reference number at the citation level.

I understand that FH v6 is still quite new, and perhaps not fully "baked" yet. Can anyone tell me if continued development of this version will include a direct import of Rootsmagic files (.rmgc)? Thanks.

Creating a Custom Report
Good afternoon,
Is it possible to create a custom report in Family Historian showing a list of sources and those individuals with facts associated with those sources?

Yes, I see that. Unfortunately, I have Version 7. Apparently, Family Historian does not do a direct import of Rootsmagic v7. The extension of that version is .rmgc
