Re: Converting name changes to events
It looks as though TMG does not allow you to change the GEDCOM export as field for any Name tags such as Name-Marr etc. And Direct Import doesn't work for me. {Shudder} I may have to enter the name change event facts manually

Re: V6 Fails on TMG direct import
Per Mike's suggestion I have emailed Calico Pie with as much information as I have, and an offer to forward the offending TMG project file if that would help. I'm sure any response will get distributed pretty quickly given the level of interest :-) but will forward anything I receive. Cheers ... John

Re: V6 Fails on TMG direct import
I've got my TMG V8.08 project totally scrubbed, lots of useful Custom Facts to make the migration to FH as smooth as possible, and motivation to get serious with FH. Only problem is that my trial version of V6 that is about to expire and I'm at a dead-end. Where to from here? Unless the Direct Impor...

Re: Sentence is truncated ...
Hi Mike - thanks for those really great suggestions.
I plan to play around with AS and see if I can get it to do what I'm after. If I continue with a role-your-own fact then I will definitely use your =GetLabelledText approach - brilliant !
Cheers ... John.

Re: Converting name changes to events
Hi Mike - the Name changes have been imported into the Name more(+)... section of the Main tab. They do not appear as custom Attributes in the Facts tab. They do appear in the All tab as attributes of the Individual record. Here is the Gedom fragment in FH that results from importing the primary sur...

Converting name changes to events
Most of the 100's of name changes (Name-Marr etc.) in my TMG project have been imported (using the Gedcom method as Direct Import fails) into the FH project and appear as Name attributes linked to the individual's main property. My problem is that 99% of the name changes are event-like and often hav...

Re: Sentence is truncated ...
Thanks (again) Mike.
It seems truncation occurs when the function call =TextPart(%FACT.NOTE2%,nn) returns more than 60 characters. A somewhat small limit imho.
Cheers ... John.

Sentence is truncated ...
The sentence and text in the Narrative report is getting truncated: The sentence template is: {date} {individual} was listed in the {date:Year} {=TextPart(%FACT.PLAC%,-1)} census as {=TextPart(%FACT.NOTE2%,1)} {place}. In the census {individual's} name was given as {=TextPart(%FACT.NOTE2%,2)}<, age ...

Suggestion: how to port TMG's split memo's to FH
For those migrating from TMG who need something similar to the TMG split memo, then you might like to adapt my census principal sentence: {date} {individual} was listed in the {date:Year} {=TextPart(%FACT.PLAC%,-1)} census as {=TextPart(%FACT.NOTE2%,1)} {place}. In the census {individual's} name was...

Re: Referring to the Fact Note in role sentences
Thanks Mike. When you're talking to Calicoe Pie can you also tell them that %FACT.PLAC% also returns a null string when called from a witness sentence. Interestingly {note}, {date} and {place} all work fine in Witness sentences so clearly this FACT information is accessible (somehow). Cheers ... John

Re: Marriage fact: listing the names of all witnesses
Thanks Mike. I've found a "workaround" by limiting the role inclusions to just those I need, but I will forward your suggestion to Calicoe Pie when I get a bit of spare time.

Referring to the Fact Note in role sentences
For the principle sentence I can include text from the Fact Note, up to the first comma, using: {=TextPart(%FACT.NOTE2%),1,1,STD))}. However this does not work for the Witness sentence. Note that I can include text in the Witness sentence from the Witness note using {=TextPart(GetFieldText(GetContex...

Marriage fact: listing the names of all witnesses
The marriage fact allows for a number of possible witness roles: bridesmaids, priests, rabbi's etc. I can get a list of the names of all the bridesmaids (say) with {role=bridesmaid} but I want to modify the sentence to refer to all witnesses regardless of their specific role. Apart from listing all ...

Re: How to reference the Witness note in a Witness sentence?
I found the following in FH Help: "Example (narrative sentence for witness): The witness's first name was {=GetFieldText(GetContextItem(WITNESS),"%~.NAME:GIVEN%"))} The witness note is as follows: {=GetFieldText(GetContextItem(WITNESS_LINK),"%~.NOTE%"))}" The first example works just fine (when you ...

How to reference the Witness note in a Witness sentence?
Subject line says it all :-) I want to include the Witness note in a Witness sentence however {note} picks up the fact note. Is there a format like {Witness.note} to differentiate the two notes? Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but my search in FHUG didn't pick up an answer to this quest...

Custom family fact for Child Count ignored on TMG import
The standard fact for Child Count only allows for an Attribute for an Individual, so I have created a custom family attribute fact "Child Count family" to pickup a count of children which is linked to both father and mother. This works a treat when I create a family fact manually but gets mostly ign...

Re: Multiple census entries
I'm also working through TMG import and AS for census records - my plan was to create a single source record attached to a fact for the Head of household (as principal) and then connect the other household residents as witnesses to this fact. That way the census data is stored in one place but I've ...

Re: Census fact - Head of household role for principal
"Other" works in the main (i.e. principal's) sentence as you suggested. But what I think I need are two principal roles (each with their own sentence), one where the principal is Head of household (which covers the majority of situations) and one where the principal is just a Resident. Is that possi...

Re: Census fact - Head of household role for principal
Thanks Jane - I tried that and it worked a treat for witness roles and their sentences. But what I'm looking for is a way to vary the sentence for the principal. Usually the census principal will be Head of household, but occasionally they will be a simple resident, and I'm looking for a way to hand...

Census fact - Head of household role for principal
The Census fact includes a witness role (and associated sentence) for Head of household, which is useful for when the Census fact principal is not head of household. However for most of my census facts the Head of household is the principal (i.e. fact owner), but the principal sentence makes no refe...

Re: How to include a standalone group photo
Thanks Jane - on reflection that may be a cleaner way to go. Let me confirm what you are saying: 1. create a media record with Date set to the date the photo was taken. 2. create a link to the person who appears in the photo (perhaps use the el-neato face-frame linkage) 3. leave the photo connected ...

How to include a standalone group photo
I have this old photo of my grandfather with the year, and names of the other 2 (unrelated) people handwritten on the photo. How should I handle this in FH6?
