Re: Question about scope of records handled by A.S.

I'm sure Nick will respond in due course, but for info, I use AS for all BMDB entries regardless of source as it ensures a level of consistency in my entries. I use multiple Autotext templates and, in need, use the "Generic .. Data Only" one if nothing else fits, and will manually modify t...

Re: Question about "Essentials" template set

I don't use any of the templates as I prefer to follow my own existing consistent approach, but in terms of the Access Date I do think it has a quite important place for certain sources. The 1939 UK Register is one particular area where transcripts / images do change over time (as FMP, etc., receive...

Re: Text to User defined Rich Text Output (for previous entered events)

Not sure if it will help in your case, but I found the plugin "Convert Text from Source to Rich Text" pretty nifty for converting plain text for non-census sources.

Re: Change the actions of the go-back / history list

I don't use the Back / Forward functionality very often but on those occasions that I do, I would expect it to operate as Mike T has specified - removal of an item should not result in the whole 'history' list disappearing.

Re: 1939 Register

I would suggest it is a safety feature - as far as I recall, it has been there since I first started using AS some years ago!. Before AS updates the FH Gedcom, it takes a copy so that if there are any problems with the update there is a fallback solution. Personally, I have it set to only generate 4...

Re: 1939 Register

If you look at Tools\Options\General Settings there are three Folder settings including one for Backups. Hover over the Backups detail and a popup explains that a copy of the Gedcom is made before AS processes any entries in to FH. The Help for that page also states: "Backup Folder: When change...

Re: 1921 Census Template

Yes, as Nick says, pretty easy to add the extra text on the template. I have modified the 1939 Register template to record the number of 'closed records' at the date I found the schedule as this number can change over time, using:

{CENSUSGRID}
Closed records for this Address (as at {SYSTEM.DATE}):

Re: AS Census - SourceTemplate.xml missing

I'm sure Nick will come back with other suggestions in due course, but initially I would check using file Explorer if the file is actually present. I have the base AS install with no folder changes (e.g. for Synchronisation, etc)., and I find the file you refer to in Documents\Ancestral Sources\Sett...

Re: Media files

The Media folder created as part of the FH install does not have any sub-folders, so you must have created these yourself on your old machine. I assume you ran regular backups (?) of FH and related Media, so you would need to restore from these to get your 'old' folder structure

Re: Confused wrt Find Duplicates

Without wishing to cause offense, have you checked through the significant amount of help for this plugin?. It is certainly the case that the A and B names can be different (most of mine were when I started running the plugin!). However it can be the case that you have the same individual in FH with...

Re: does anyone have some time to spare helping a newbie get to grips with AS proberly

Although I had an establish "tree" when I moved over from TMG to FH, I still spent over three months of almost daily "playing" (I'm retired!!) with FH and AS using both the sample project and newly imported copies of my TMG project as I established what the applications could / c...

I have to say that, for many of the reasons you specify, I don't use these assessments at all!. Instead, if I have doubts / questions in my mind / ????, then I add a Note to the Fact (or the Individual) explaining what my concern / issue is.

Re: Exporting to Gedsite - Naturalisation Tag

Have you "ticked" the various options for that tag type in Gedsite?. I only have a couple of Naturalisation facts within FH, but they have all come over to Gedsite using Mike's Explort plugin. It may also be worth using the Record Browser in Gedsite to check what data it has actually recei...

Re: Add religion to baptism fact

Going off at a slight tangent to the recent posts, but back to the first few posts on this topic, it would be good (IMHO) if Nick could add a "Denomination" field in AS that could populate the " Religious Affiliation " value - most of the Baptism records / transcripts I have incl...

Re: Using AS and FH charts

I would agree with Mark. In my early days using FH and AS, on a number of occasions I hit the decline option and then wondered why some of my data was missing. Took a while to understand the reason, but nowadays I never hit the decline option. That said, where possible I don't have both applications...

I have a large number of marriages that took place in the parish church of a very small Somerset village - the Church is always listed on the drop-down against the Address field (after I have selected the Place), so it is not something that only works in AS for a major town / city

With respect, how does AS know you are not going to make any more changes?. Much like FH, as soon as you make it the active window it will check and notify you if the currently loaded Gedcom is out of date.

Just to throw in a bit more confusion, the icons can sometimes appear at the bottom - depends on where the cursor is in relation to the main window and also how many menu items are listed!

Re: Other Information

When installed, AS has 4 Autotext templates for each of Births, Baptisms, Deaths and Burials, and 8 for Marriages (plus 1 for Census) - these cover a range from "all data input" through to Birth / Marriage Certificates and Parish Registers, etc. So there is no "normal" one!. Once...
