Re: The general nightmare
In all fairness, I should post that Calico Pie responded at once to my email and, thanks to their help, fh is now uninstalled from the old lap top and installed on the new one.

The general nightmare
I realise Calico Pie dont want to lose revenue, but I am going out of my mind with repeated failures to to download fh to our new lap top. (an hour of struggling and re-entering passwords)
I have emailed them asking for help but it really shouldnt be this hard.

Re: West Surrey Users
We live about an hour's drive from Woking. Are you using a Windows PC? If so, I could probably help you. Possibly this could be done over the phone. First I would tell you that you need to copy all your fh folders so you are not working with your main files, but using copies. I am myself not a great...

Re: Re connecting Media Images
Helen, thank you. I keep multiple Projects but will take this one tree at a time. Looking at my paternal Gollin tree, the links seem fine But the pics of each person are not always showing on the focus window. Some are and some are not. If I open the fh sample project, the pics are there on the focu...

Re connecting Media Images
Although I have used fh for years for research databases, I am only now starting to use it for my own family trees previously in TMG. I am having trouble showing the pictures. My fh pictures were linked in fh Version 6 to the pics on my C drive. Since then I have upgraded to fh 7 and in Feb 2020 to ...

Re: Source/Citaton wndows in fh 7
I see. Thank you. Mike. Do you have any suggestions or preferences for positioning it or sizing it? I have the source pane tiled horizontally but if I add a source citation to a fact that opens a further pane called Citation Window and it remains floating there even when it is empty. I have a large-...

Source/Citaton wndows in fh 7
Mike, Many grovelling apologies but please would you repeat the help you gave me over the empty citation window remaining open in fh7 and concealing some data? I cannot seem to find your original post and I am not sure whether I have used the option to run fh 7 like fh 6 (I now cant find that option...

Re: birth in India
My husband's grand mother was born in Poona India. Her father was in the army and forces records may be different. But I seem to remember going to the India Office library (housed in the British Library) where there was a card index. Those were pre digital days. We now have her birth certificate and...

Re: 'Automatic Source Citation' problems
I tried this and you are right. The automatic source is not entered. in 7 0 9
However there is another shortcoming. I dont think one can automatically add two sources to a new event?
One has to add an event, add 2 sources to that and then copy and paste that event complete with the two sources.

Re: A census query question
Thank you very much Mike. I do quite a lot of totalling up by hand, so I can count them yes.
What is more, by adding a column I can sort them in different ways.
I will do this tomorrow when I am thinking clearly.

Re: A census query question
Do you use only standard Individual Census Events with the appropriate Date to record all census households? Yes. The census Event entry plus source is copied and pasted to everyone in the household. Do you include both the Place and full Address in those Census Events? I put the full street addres...

Re: auto source
I use the automatic source facility. When active it adds the selected source to every new fact entry. This is very useful if one is making mass entries from e.g. a census or a prison list. The automatic source facility does not enter an event or attribute. To copy an event, together with its source ...

Viewing 1921 Census Address
I would like some advice on using the 1921 census please. I have paid to see the household images of 3 of our grand parents' households. The address at the time of the census is not given on that main list image. It is on the previous page image. Does this mean one has to pay twice for every 1921 en...

Re: FH for Local History?
You can use fh for any type of group study. I have used it to look at an artillery brigade from Rugby and Coventry in WW1 and am about to start looking at those same families on the 1921 census. I previously listed my FWW people in MS Access, (when foot-noting a war memoir) but I prefer to use genea...

Re: Multiple Records Windows or Query Windows
Not the time of day but I have only just seen this and would be interested. I use queries to look at things like emigration and deportation in WW2. So my method has been to use a query to find the people deported on a certain day or to a certain place (or both) and then put them in a named list. I c...

Re: Exclude a line
You can flag a person as Private.
Or as Living.
The help file explains the effect.
Within events and notes I thought two square brackets at either end of the name or text served for privacy. Jane uses them in her GedMatch DNA system.

Re: Query for all Relatives?
Thank you Mike.
I am just posting to say it is not worth anyone writing a plug in thank you.
I can sort the information I need by just using queries. Because the number of people who interest me is a very small sub section of a long list and I can use other attributes to get the group I want.

Query for all Relatives?

To clarify. This FHUG is a user run forum with volunteer helpers. Technical questions and ommissions should be taken up and discussed with the authors of the software Calico Pie. I seem to remember that when I wanted to send information about a group of people who took part in a political protest to...

Helen, It might be useful to adapt this for your average and amateur fh user. I dont understand what you are doing nor what you are advising. Re: dies after 1911 cant find not on 1939 Census
The 1939 register is not at the National Archive. It was retained in order to register people in the National Health Service. And any queries about the images ( for instance where vital name information has been cropped off at the margin) have to be forwarded to that agency and are not dealt with in...
