Re: Adoption problem
Mike, I have followed your instructions in this post and you say that both sets of parents show up in the report, but I cannot see this in the individual narrative. (In the ancestor chart I get to chose which set of parents to show) In the All tab I can see that the birth parents family comes before...

Re: Custom Attribute
Tatewise in the end I took your advice about using witnesses. I created a plugin that moved all the witnesses of residences (whose date matched exactly that of a census) back into the census witnesses with a role of Member of Household. I also added the principal in with a role of Head of Household.

Re: Custom Attribute
I don't follow your logic here, because Residence attributes don't have people as witnesses either. I remember getting very confused about what to do with the census(family) facts. I think the conversion from TMG just added the witnesses as notes and I didn't like that, and there was some discussio...

Re: Custom Attribute
Thanks for the reply. Not sure if this is a good idea or not, but it's what I do. I think it started because of the way the import from TMG worked when I first moved to FH as I seem to remember that it created Census(family) events which I wasn't fond of. 1) I don't use witnesses on the census event...

Custom Attribute
I've created a custom attribute for census residence which I created by copying the settings from standard Residence and then amended as needed. However there is an additional field appearing which doesn't appear on Residence which I would like to remove. Please see attached image. Annotation 2020-0...

Re: Finding Links to Places
I've got a solution for 2 but it is a bit clumsy, is there a better way? Copy place name from the Records Window, do CTRL-F, CTRL-V, Find Now, Display Results in Results Window. Focus and then edit the offending Fact. OK for individuals but for shared events needs an extra step to locate the individ...

Finding Links to Places
Apologies if this has been asked before - I searched and couldn't find an answer. Two things I want to do: 1) There are some places (incorrectly recorded and now put right) that have no links - is it possible to delete these? 2) For places which are incorrect (which I need to put right) and still ha...

Re: database engine
Hi Linda, Like you I migrated from TMG. I haven't found the fact that FH uses Gedcom to be a problem at all. It seems very fast and responsive and I have been able to find all the filters I need. Also I have managed to write my own 'simple' plugin to provide me a list of people and show if I have fo...

Illegitimacy - Assumed Marriage
Kate has a child Phoebe with Roy, but they never married. So I add Phoebe as a child of Kate, and then go to Phoebe's record and add Roy as her father. Both Kate and Roy subsequently marry other people (Lucas Madikane and Hayley Jordan if you are interested ;) )and have further children. The problem...

Re: Not finding all Individuals in a project
Thanks Mike, that makes sense. I hadn't noticed but there were gaps in the table that were showing up in the result set. I will update my code to use table.insert as it makes things cleaner.

Re: Not finding all Individuals in a project
Hi Mike, I fixed it, but I don't know why what I was doing wasn't working. Originally I was using the Record Id as the key for an individual's data in the tables like this: iRecordId = fhGetRecordId(ptrRec) local strNameFirst = fhGetItemText(ptrRec,"~.NAME:GIVEN_ALL") tblNameFirst[iRecordId] = strNa...

Not finding all Individuals in a project
I've just started experimenting with writing plugins and I'm seeing something strange. The skeleton of my plugin looks like this: ptrRec:MoveToFirstRecord("INDI") while not ptrRec:IsNull() do -- some code here to get name and birth date ptrCen:MoveTo(ptrRec,"~.CENS") while not ptrCen:IsNull() do -- ...

Thanks for that Jane, I hadn't spotted that there was a Report Options, and also that it was always the second occurrence that it was happening to. It's going to be a steep learning curve for me

Places in Narrative Reports
I've being trying out FH as a replace for The Master Genealogist as I'm concerned about the longer term viability of TMG. I've imported directly from my TMG project but I notice some issue with place names when running an Individual Narrative Report. In the report I see for example "He lived at 39 b...
