Re: Change Focus window to that shown in property box

I stand corrected. I read highlighted to mean the background colour change (i.e. selection) and frankly I had not noticed the box boundary being highlighted.

Re: Change Focus window to that shown in property box

The problem is compounded by the fact that the individual is highlighted in the focus window, leaving one to mistakenly think that the individual is also the focus of the property box. This is evidenced by the number of people commenting that they have mistakenly added facts to the wrong person! So...

Re: Change Focus window to that shown in property box

Mike I am sure that is correct, FH could sync, bringing the property box individual into focus, but this would remove the distinction in the focus window between selecting an individual and bringing that individual into focus. I frequently select one of the children in a family for a quick look at t...

Re: Change Focus window to that shown in property box

Tatewise's comment The Go Back and Go Forward and cog Recent list can involve ANY type of record, not just Individual records, so in the general case such records cannot be shown in the Focus Window. to my mind indicates why linking the property box to the focus window is not possible. I take the po...

Re: Sources After GEDCOM download to FH from Legacy

As an experiment using FH6.2 and Legacy 8 I exported an FH file to Legacy and then imported it back to FH. The type data is there as a UDF in the All tab of the Source Record. Looking at the GEDCOM files in notepad the differences are exemplified below FH-Legacy-FH Import @S1156@ SOUR 1 TITL GRO Dea...

Re: and I own this computer.

Ron This is the plugin I use to update the families child count. It does not take account of the relationship status of the children. I don't calculate for individuals but a simple replacement of 'FAM' by 'INDI' should do the job. Then you can read the count from the NCHI tag pf=fhNewItemPtr() pfc=fh...

Re: and I own this computer.

Just in regard to the child count doesn't the built-in function do the job, or does that slow everything down?

Code: Select all

fhCallBuiltInFunction('ChildCount',ptr)

Re: How would we fare if the Records Office honoured its confidentiality agreements?

Apologies I was using the logical 'or' which does not exclude 'and', whereas I guess the normal use of 'or' does suggest that 'and' is not available.
I agree that both answers should be yes.

How would we fare if the Records Office honoured its confidentiality agreements?

At the top of the 1911 household census form you will find a statement part of which is given below. The contents of the Schedule will be treated as confidential. Strict care will be taken that no information is disclosed with regard to individual persons. Now I believe that there is an understandin...

Re: The Theory of Eight

An interesting challenge on a Saturday morning to do this without opening your file. I failed when it came to my wife's adoptive family getting only 5 of 8. Mine were easy Newton, Otter, Wildgoose, Elliott, Fretwell, Baker, Baker, Tivey (Bakers were 1-st cousins once removed) and the 4 in my wife's ...

Re: How should we use the internet as a genealogy data source.

Many thanks for the information about the Coalmining History Resources. I looked up Raleys to see if they had moved the information and apparently they are in administration so not much help. I will look up the links mentioned.

How should we use the internet as a genealogy data source.

I should clarify that I am not asking about the reliability of the information that we obtain from the internet but rather will it still be there in decades to come. Let me explain with a specific example. Many of my relatives were coal miners and some years ago on the internet I found a collections...

Re: Source help

The existence of an age field in the Birth event does suggest that the Fact definition has been altered. Have a look at the Tools>Fact Types. Select Birth from the list and then Edit from the right hand list of buttons. The Fields required near the bottom will probably include a check against Age, u...

Re: File organisation in Windows

There are a number of mentions here of not storing your data on the same drive as the Windows operating system. As far as I can tell, and I could easily be wrong, no one has mentioned that the standard user folders can be stored anywhere you like (including C:\DATA) and Microsoft provides an officia...

Re: Organisation of media folders

I did read the caveat and it is possible that FH is one of the older 32-bit programs which cannot open or save very long path name files - I don't know. I was not recommending the use of a registry hack simply pointing out for interested parties where it can be found.

I didn't know about the change in Long path names in Windows 10. Good to know. I have found an article about it with instructions at https://www.howtogeek.com/266621/how-to-make-windows-10-accept-file-paths-over-260-characters/ If you are uncomfortable accessing the Registry there is a link - Long P...

That is very strange. I used FreeBMD to look up the reference and got a name. Putting that name into the GRO gives

GRO.JPG (23.23 KiB) Viewed 2213 times
so there must be two entries with the same index reference.

Re: 1939 Register - Handwriting Help Please

If he is on the 1939 register he must have died. A quick search on Family Search reveals James Dennis Harrison, Death Registration Oct-Nov-Dec 1986, Blackburn, Birth date 26 Aug 1926, vol. 40, p 105 Which is reasonable evidence that this is the person mentioned in the 1939 Register. I have about 150 references to the Derbyshire Registrar's index. On a number of these the GRO index refers to Registry Offices in adjacent Counties.
