Re: Help! Where did my project go?

I hadn't moved anything, but DH saves everything to a separate storage box for security (he's an ex IT manager)!
With his help, my projects are showing again. Phew!
Thank you so much for helping this techno twit.

Help! Where did my project go?

I clicked on something in More Tasks on the project window and now my own project has disappeared from the menu. How can I get it back? The window only shows the sample project now. The menu won't stay put for me to get a snip showing the submenu. I clicked on More Tasks/ Project List/Reset Location...

Chasing GRO for a non received cert

Whenever I can, I get the cert from the local record office. Last 2 certs requested from Manchester arrived within 48 hours of my telephone call! How's that for service?[smile]

Journeys amp; travelling relatives

Thanks for your replies - unfortunately I also have some ancestors who did emigrate, so I don't want to use that event ambiguously.
I may need to make a custom event, or post a wishlist request for a travel event. If anyone has any more advice, I'd be glad to hear it.

Journeys amp; travelling relatives

Can anyone comment on how they use passenger list info within FH? I have 2 individuals who travelled and stayed some time in foreign parts, for work or pleasure, but did not settle so immigration/emigration is not correct. For example, one relative travelled to USA during WW1 on business, building a...

Adoption by New Husband

Have you checked that it is the identical person, and not a new baby, that has been registered in 1989? Perhaps the original person died, and the new baby given the name again. Births had to be registered within 6 weeks of the event. I would be surprised to see someone's birth being re-registered at...

Picture types and computer upgrades

Jan, Jane & RalfofAmber Thanks very much for the advice, I hadn't got as far as thinking about what info to record with the scans. It seems obvious now that the current location of originals is just as important as the photos themselves!! Maybe that is a lesson for us all; the obvious now will not b...

Picture types and computer upgrades

I have old photo albums, which are historical artifacts in themselves, as well as each individual photograph. I also have acquired a book written by an ancestor which is a scanned image file. As a non-techie, struggling to get to grips with IT, I would appreciate any advice about which programme to ...

Picture types and computer upgrades

I wonder if anyone can give advice as to the best type of picture/photo file to use with FH, and if people have a preferred programme for scanning and sorting out pictures before adding them to FH. I have 3 sets of family photos to do, and send back to relatives. Also, having read the wiki and forum...

Families split across census pages

For the 2 families situation, I add a note beneath the auto text in the text box, noting the presence of another significant family nearby. I have cases where boarders have subsequently married into the family, or where engaged people live very close to each other. I also have found new family  rela...

You could also have occupation citations for the bride and groom, and both fathers.
Related witnesses could also have the marriage as a source?

Nick, thanks very much for your explanation about computer memory.
I have only added a handful of records with the new update before I realised the difference.
As I have well over 100 census entries already, I'll carry on using the old method.

Gedcom Census

I am still slightly puzzled, as on the census options Recording Method 2 tab, it states that 'users who wish to record transctipts are recommended to use recording method 2'!! I find that having the transcript handy for individuals is very useful, as I refer to them frequently, but on reflection I'd...

New relevant persons on old census entries

Can I link census records which have already been added in FH to newly relevant  individuals? As an example, I do not create FH individuals for servants or lodgers, but include them in the transcript. In more than one instance, the lodger has ended up marrying into the family, so they do not have th...

I have just started using the latest GC version, using method 2 as I did with the previous version. I have now found that I cannot see the census entry in the 'text from source' field for each individual, as I could in the previous version, but have to look at it in the notes tab of the records wind...

I'm also learning how to make custom queries. Can someone please tell me how to modify the married women query to show more than one marriage, and the 'where in source' details? I want to identify each marriage to fill in gaps.

As a newbie(received FH on Tuesday, researching for 1 month), I would like any advice on how people use the info they have, eg I've received some certificates and am unsure how to tie all the various pieces of info to different people: occupations, addresses, witnesses etc. The tutorials are very go...
