Re: Sync Desktop and Laptop with Dropbox
Thanks to those that made suggestions. None of them were the problem however, so just in case anyone else has this issue, I eventually solved it by bulk opening all media files in the old location, converting the format FROM jpg TO jpg (so no change) then resaving to the new location (Dropbox Media ...

Re: Sync Desktop and Laptop with Dropbox
Thanks Mike. I shall look at all you suggest. Initially not all media was in the Media folder - but I've deleted/moved the offending images and re-synced. I'll check it again though. I'll also follow the V5 V6 Migration Guide. As regards how I'm opening the project - I'm opening FH then setting the ...

Sync Desktop and Laptop with Dropbox
I have just upgraded to version 7. Previously I only ran FH on my desktop, but thought I would like it on my laptop as well. I have copied my Family Historian Project folder into my Dropbox folder. All seems fine with the exception of Media. My media does not appear in the focus window, being replac...

Re: lost registration key
My registration key came printed on a piece of paper about the size of a postcard with "Don't Lose This Key" printed in large letters at the top and "Family Historian 5" printed in white on a green strip up the left hand side. (sorry - not trying to rub it in - might help you recognise it)

Re: Frustration with Family Historian - All versions inc 5.
I would strongly recommend that you persevere with Family Historian, as it is by far the best family history software available on the market. I recently switched to using a Mac, and was horrified to find that there is no Mac version. I tried the best Mac alternative (Reunion) and after using that f...

Latest Version
When I check if I have the latest version (Help>Check For Updates) I am informed that I have version 5.0.0 and that this is the latest version. Yet in another thread I see discussions re possible problems with later versions - 5.0.1 and 5.0.2. So which is the latest version? Are these others beta ve...

Version 5
Well - if you plan to upgrade to version 5 you could also push the boat out and upgrade to windows 8 as well. Windows XP is what my ancestors used to use........

Error Message - Help
Oh sorry - forget my last post - I just noticed what you meant by Add Parent... shows how unobservant I am - I didn't notice that option on the right.

Error Message - Help
Now I understand it, it makes perfect sense. I must admit though that when the message first came up I could not understand why. Perhaps in a future version the message could be amended to prompt the user to enter new additional parents in FH?

Error Message - Help
Yes - that is exactly how I triggered the error message. The father was auto filled when I clicked 'Select' - Individual on the right, and then typed in the mothers name as she was not already in my tree. Now I know the cause it's easily worked around and a minor problem in an excellent piece of sof...

Error Message - Help
Thats odd. I was using the record id of the father who was already in my tree, and entering the name of the mother as a person not in the tree when the error message ocurred. I have now entered the mother into the tree in FH then used her id number in Ancestral Sources and it has worked ok.

Error Message - Help
I am trying to add a baptism record for an individual in my tree (Edward Francis Fitzgerald id no 319). When I click on the save icon I get an error message 'Individual Edward Francis FITZGERALD [319] is already linked as a child in a family and therfore this entry can not be saved with the selected...

Correct way to enter 2 marriages - same couple
Thanks Jane. That's a much more straightforward way to do it. I guess I must just be a bit dense!!!

Correct way to enter 2 marriages - same couple
Can anyone confirm what is the best way to enter two marriages between the same two people. I have a couple who married, and later got married again. This cannot be too unusual where a couple divorce and later remarry. I have entered the second marriage as though it is a marriage to a new person, bu...

Translation of Latin note in marriage record
Yes - that would be when they first married. We are not sure why they married twice - perhaps if they were first cousins the catholic priest first time around refused to marry them, and they either turned to another religion (there seem to be several ST Peters in Liverpool) or to the registry office...

Translation of Latin note in marriage record
Many thanks for your suggestions. After some efforts on google translate I think fano acath'co is short for fano acatholico - which translates as non-catholic church. If they first married in a CofE church for some reason, I wonder why its described as a civil contract? Unless the catholic priest/ch...

Translation of Latin note in marriage record
I wonder if anyone can help with translating the latin comment written in the margin of this marriage record. Firstly I am not sure what is referred to by the date in 1877, and secondly what exactly is consanguinity in the second degree - would this mean first cousins or second cousins (the mothers ...

pdf file output
No help in resolving I know - but I am running Windows 7 and FH 4.1 RC1 - and saving diagrams as PDFs works just fine.
