Re: Plugins planned/in progress
I am not quite sure whether this thread is still active. However, spurred by Chris Read's recent contribution, I have been looking over the plugins I have developed to see if they would be interest in adding these to the store. The first three I have thought maybe worthwhile offering were adding a ...

Re: AS v7.8.6 and Crossover install
Nick, the last time the KB was updated it was written for a Windows 7 bottle with AS v5.0.2 and Crossover v19. So all have moved on considerably and along the way something has changed which is causing the issue. I suspect that I will have to remove AS from the article but I will experiment a bit mo...

Re: AS v7.8.6 and Crossover install
When you said it worked fine I wonder if this while you were in census mode? I'm assuming you didn't update the colours just before? I expect if you were to delete the following registry key AS would run again if you need to test this further: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ancestral Sources Cheers Nic...

AS v7.8.6 and Crossover install
Nick I am in the process of updating the KB article on running FH and AS in Crossover. Initially AS worked fine and then suddenly after a while this error popped up. Screenshot 2024-04-07 at 12.06.42.png I tried uninstalling AS and reinstalling but now immediately on opening AS I get the error messa...

Re: New Mac with Parallels and Windows
I have just replaced my 2015 iMac. I pushed the boat out and went for an iMac M3 with 24gB of ram and a 2Tb SSD. If it lasts for the nearly10 years that the old one did I will be happy. I don't use parallels but do use Crossover and am happy with the performance and reduced overhead.

Re: New Mac with Parallels and Windows
I have just replaced my Intel iMac with a new M3 one. I went for 24gB and 2Tb as I also do some photo editing and web design. I run FH and AS under Crossover rather than with Parallels. You will need the Arm version of Windows 11 to run under Parallels with the Apple Silicon chips as an Arm version ...

Re: Adding Media files.
How are you adding the media files? You should be attaching them as media to the various facts and not to the individual. See this article in the knowledgebase Getting Started You may be better off using Ancestral Sources to enter these type of facts.

On my Mac I backup to a folder on the C drive like the settings path that you have rather than to a \\Mac drive. It works fine for me. May be worth changing your backup location to reflect a Windows file location.

There are ways to install Win 11 on to unsupported hardware. A quick search turns up several ways to do it.

Re: What is a permanent record number?
Thanks. I had found those and was confused. Guess I’ll add permanent record number to the list of unknowns and move on. Unless, you know of a good reason to use them. One online resource suggested they were used by Family Search/LDS. The permanent record number defined in Gedcom and use of a unique...

Just FYI it installs and runs fine under Crossover on a Mac. Found a whole series of pages that I had forgotten to attach to a source. Thanks for writing it.

I posted a query that will do what you want so just save the output as a CSV for your Excel editing.

I have a query that does most of what you want that you can use as a basis and then do as Helen suggests.

Unfortunately it does not work on Crossover on a Mac. It installs fine. On running it just closes FH.
Just FYI as the Mac and Crossover are not run of the mill for FH.

Re: importing gedcom + media from MyHeritage
Others may come up with an alternative way. Open a copy of your Gedcom file in Notepad++ and use its search and replace function to look for the title and delete the characters at the beginning and then repeat with the characters at the end. Open that gedcom in FH and make sure everything is ok. If ...

It comes up for me in the App Store as 'Not available in your region'. This sometimes means that the author does not wish to comply with GDPR and so does not make it available outside the US. If that is the case with this app I would look at one of the alternatives.

Re: Changing linked media addresses in bulk
If you are going to try editing the gedcom directly then take a look at the free Notepad++ it has a gedcom addon which you may find useful. It has extensive search and replace options. IMHO it is easier to use than VBA in Excel.

Your post doesn't make it clear what you are trying to do. What do you mean by: "Currently, if I drag a window either left or right from my centre monitor it doesn't appear on the other one." Which window are you trying to drag? How are your monitors setup? You could always print to pdf a ...
