Re: Use of Correct tense in Property box sentence for living person.

You can edit any individual fact sentence if you want to. Both was and is indicate a particular point in time. If you have a fact for say 10 Jan 2020 then using was such as 'On 10 Jan 2020 he was employed as a salesman' is correct in any report. From my point of view you would only use is if you wer...

The problem is that Clooz creates the tag but does not put a value in it.

Re: GEDCOM 5.5.1 Standard Release Nov 2019

I have just had to rewrite the gedcom parser part of my Wordpress plugin as someone sent me a Family Tree Maker for Mac gedcom that wouldn't load. On examination of the gedcom it fails to comply with so many of the standards, both 5.5 and 5.5.1, that it should not really be called a gedcom file. How...

Re: Data sourced from family memories.

Paula Depending on how many pages of information there are it may be appropriate to change the document to images and add them as media to a source record. Then use that as the source for the various facts. If there are too many pages then maybe convert to a pdf to make it not too easily editable do...

When Yahoo did a similar thing at the end of 2019 a lot of their groups moved to groups.io. But as Jane says is it really necessary with this forum now?

Re: Larger projects

My personal project is 3.74gb and the largest of my Surname Studies is 2.02gb. I have a lot of images and personal photos in my personal project so to me your project is not very large at all. Dropbox and a slow internet connection are likely to be your problems. That is why I use a local NAS and ba...

Re: Project deletion issue

The two project files contained very similar data. The (1) had a 2017 filestamp date and had one row less data than the one without the (1) which had a date stamp of yesterday when I last used the project. I took a chance and moved the (1) file to a different folder. It has gone from the project win...

Re: Project deletion issue

Helen

Only 1 gedcom but I have Lefever_UK.fh_proj and Lefever_UK (1).fh_proj so I suspect that this is where the problem is. I hope it is as simple as deleting Lefever_UK (1).fh_proj ?

Project deletion issue

I have decided that I will tidy up my projects and get rid of those that I no longer need. Everything went well until I try to sort out this one. project.jpg The date and time for the highlighted file indicates that this project has not been touched since 1971 which is clearly incorrect. The folder ...

Re: One person tree - Recording war service with all the bits that go with it!

Mike They are good if you have scans as you can have the scan on one half screen and do the transcription in the other half. Paul said he was going to create images / pdf's from some of his physical sources so they could work for him. There is no need to use the templates in either product you can j...

For doing the transcribing take a look at Genscriber or Transcript. Both are free and may make the transcribing easier.

This is moving on the Gedcom-L group are already proposing changes.

https://genealogy.net/GEDCOM/ to download their revised version of 5.5.1. Looking at it it makes some valid (imho) changes to what FamilySearch published in November 2019.

Re: Name confusion

Presumably Sarah is the mother of both? Do you know the names of the putative fathers of the children? Unlink the children from Sarah and Luke by right clicking and selecting unlink. Create 2 new "husbands" for Sarah and set the relationship I presume to never married. Then select add a child to Sar...

Re: GEDCOM 5.5.1 Standard Release Nov 2019

Mike He might say that it is a maintenance release BUT the analysis that was done that I read said that there were several new features that were disagreed with, maybe he doesn't regard them as major but some others do. As to ELF there are some discussion papers out which I have read but it has a lo...

Re: GEDCOM 5.5.1 Standard Release Nov 2019

V5.5.5 has received quite a bit of negative commentary but at least it is an attempt to get this ancient standard into the 21st century. It would also be nice if FISO got their act together and got ELF out there so it can be critiqued. Hopefully by the time 2030 comes around we may have a standard s...

You can also use a screenshot tool to create an image of the word file and add that as an image so that it does appear in reports etc as suggested by Mike.

CrossOver v19

I have just received an announcement that CrossOver 19 will be released tomorrow. I have tried the beta's and the release candidates and they all work with FH and AS fine on a Mac just like 18. Re: Mapping places from new, large TMG project

Sorry Colin, it is not the router, but it is service limits. Lynn, pity you did not mention the original error message because that is crucial. The FH automatic geocoding is limited to a quota each day to avoid overloading the server. See glossary:map_window|> Workspace 8: Map Window . See the long...

Re: Mapping places from new, large TMG project

Try rebooting your router to get a new IP address, the server maybe storing IP address as overusing facility. A new IP address would overcome this if that is the problem.

Following on from David's post it is possible if the will was there to have robust backup restore options. This is one of the reasons I switched to a Mac. Thanks for the reply, yes it is the standard witness role.

I do not get a delete option on right click if I am selecting the right entry. See the attached.
