A strange request indeed, unless one wants to publish to GR - which you correctly anticipated. I have looked at RP and suggested my friend considers this and lets me know. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Having recommended FH to a friend, he has challenged me to reduce (convert) a quite comprehensive GEDCOM file into an extract where each individual record contains only first name, last name, year of birth and town (not full address). I'd welcome some help on how to delete records which I have manually marked in the diagram window. For example, is there a query which allows me to select marked records and then delete the names I get in the list.
