Can't find the Query store
I was preparing to show a potential new FH user around the software and how well it is supported through the FHUG and FH websites. I thought I’d check the Queries download store on the FH website to see if there were any interesting additions since I last looked (some time ago). Shock horror, it was...

Gravestone inscription "S.M."
Just acquired a photo of a gravestone of a Clergyman and his wife near Penzance. The first characters of the inscription which appear above his name are the letters "S.M." Any ideas as to what they stand for or mean?

Re: Saved charts crashing FH
Thanks for the suggestions Mike. Out of 40+ saved charts, 5 are corrupted, all created within the current project. I've been aware of the problem for several months with one of them and only today gone through and checked them all. From the chart names, it seems the only individuals common to the 5 ...

Saved charts crashing FH
When I go to open some of my saved charts (view/saved charts), FH crashes with the message "Family Historian has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working properly...." It's not all of the saved charts but always the same ones as far as I can tell. What might be causing...

Windows 10 upgrade questions
The up and coming deadline for free Window 10 upgrade is fast approaching. I’ve been putting off the potential problems of the transition, but must make a decision, and would appreciate some clarification. I have Windows 7 on a desk-top PC connected to a router and use MS Office 2010 & Live Mail...

Getting the most from Family Historian
Under the help menu, on my FH version 5, there’s “Getting the most from Family Historian 5”. I can’t remember whether it came as part of the installation or if I downloaded it. And if I downloaded it, how did it get included in the help menu? Maybe someone can tell me if it was included in the V5 in...

Re: Multimedia preference problem
Thanks LornaCraig, you were right, the diagram options was set to 2nd, so problem fixed. I have a vague recollection of seeing that setting and thinking that it defined how many images were to be shown. Now, seeing the list goes up to 10, that might be rather a crowd of images if I thought it was qu...

Multimedia preference problem
I seem to have a problem selecting my preferred photo of an individual when I've got multiple images on the multimedia tab. Moving an image up to preference 1 doesn't show that one on the diagram. To get the image I want I have to set it to preference 2! Has anyone had this issue? My FH version is 5...

Recording various facts with linked media
Thanks Mike for that. Its not sources I have trouble with, its when you get oddball stuff to enter. I scratch my head every time trying to categorize the information. Should it be entered as an event or attribute, or even a note! Then I try to see if theres a standard fact which might suit, if no...

How would you record the following in FH? - 1. A manufacturing business owned and run by father and sons for which I have photos and an index (pdf) of archived business records. 2. Photos of a church window presented by an ancestor in memory of their siblings. 3. Lengthy documents (over 40 pages) in...

I'm happy to wait till the end of March for V5, but I had hoped, as Simon said, that there'd be more detail of the new features in the weeks before. I don't suppose there's any chance of whetting our appetites?!

Ancestral Sources Struggling to get started!
I have installed AS (64 bit) on windows 7 and have tried to follow the Getting Started with Ancestral Sources help guide. Ive loaded a temporary project file which has no sources yet and the individuals appear in the right-hand panel. The guide says to select individuals, highlight them and add t...

Thanks Tatewise. I had tried various Diagrams>Options, including Preference = 1st, but that hadn't worked. I tried stretching the boxes in question, in case the pictures needed a larger box, but that hadn't worked either. However your suggestion of selecting the box and setting it to Autosize has wo...

Project folders and media files
With FH V4 and projects, we now apparently have each of our GEDCOM files in its own folder with its associated media files copied into folders below it. As a result of copying a file or two, Ive got some media files linked to more than one GEDCOM file. Whats going to happen if I import those files...

Version 4!
I always look forward to new versions of software, all those added features we wanted!!
Hopefully , as with previous versions, there will be a detailed 'What's New in Version 4?' to whet the appetite.
Hope it lives up to expectations and keeps Family Historian at No.1.

I've tried this as well. I like the combination of narrative report with diagrams and photos. The referencing of people and the diagram pages is good, although the little diagrams don't use the page space very efficiently. Has anyone noticed the quality of the photos in the pdf output. They come out...

Name variants in individual and outline reports
It would be nice if certain reports could include Nickname and Alternative Names. At the moment, one or both of these are not available on Individual Narrative; Individual Summary; nor Descent Outline.

When you have a person with multiple parents, they are shown twice on the diagram. I'm still trying to find a way of showing their relationship to each set of parents. I have managed to add the data reference %INDI.FAMC[2].PEDI% which adds 'Adopted' to both instances of the person. But this doesn't ...

Sorry, I've gone off on an adoption tack as opposed to the sons of two brothers, but the issue is still the same, how do you show this on a diagram?

Ok, I've set the child up with multiple parents. She was adopted by an uncle and aunt, so she appears twice in the diagram. So how do I show which are the natural parents whilst also showing her adopted ones?

Around 1770, two brothers (each married), living in the same parish, each had sons. The two sons (cousins) were given the same name. From the parish registers there is no real clear way to distinguish one from the other. One of them had a family, but the records dont tell us which one. So there is ...

Sequential vs Non-Sequential table
The v2 manual had a very useful table on page 111 listing the Sequential equivalents of Non-Sequential filters for use in queries. I can't find it now in the v3 manual, nor in the help pages.
Does anyone know where it can be found?
