Odd Error Message on Start-up

Just to add that I have uninstalled & reinstalled AS but the error message is still there so I think the problem must lie with the Gedcom file.

Odd Error Message on Start-up

I'm suddenly getting an odd error message when starting Ancestral Sources.  It has been working perfectly until today.  FH4 crashed on me and although I have restored it from a recent backup and it's now fine, I cannot get AS to start with my current project (but it will open other projects).  The e...

email source citations

To save an email on my computer I just save it in pdf format and file it as any other file.  It maintains the formatting of the message and I can attach it to FH as required.

1911 Census

I just add the extra children, each with the first name 'Unknown'. That way they show individually and I can add details as I find them.

How to show status of Widow or Widower

Hi Barbara, When you add a fact to a person you are shown the event/attribute list dialogue box. Click on the 'More>>' button and then click on the 'New' button. This displays the Create Fact Definition Box. Enter the Fact Name e.g. Marital Status and change the Fact Type to Attribute and then click...

How to show status of Widow or Widower

To get around this I created an attribute called Marital Status which can have various values e.g. widowed, unmarried etc. and works in narrative reports.

Establishing a womans maiden name.

Have you tried this site for records post 1837 http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/index.php - I've found it useful as it goes down to sub-registration district level and tells you where a marriage took place. It covers some of the areas you are interested in.
Hope this helps.

Male Surname Inheritance

I record them with the name they were given at baptism/birth registration and record any subsequent names as alternatives.

To record steprelationships or not...

I'm sorry if this has been covered  before, but I couldn't find an answer. What is the genealogically correct way to record an illegitimate child of a woman who later marries e.g. Jane Jones is the daughter of Ellen Jones and Mr Unknown. Ellen Jones then marries John Smith. Do I show Jane only as th...

Backups - general query

Many thanks for your replies. I think my way forwards is to keep 1 - 2 months worth plus any other manual backups that I may make and archive the others to CD. Thanks again.

Backups - general query

I hope this is not a silly question. I make a point of backing up every time I use Family Historian but, of course, that means I now have a lot of backup files stored on my computer. Do I need to keep them all or just the most recent one?  Are the backup files sequential or cumulative?  Thanks in ad...
