Re: Backup and Restore FH Settings via Windows - new plugin
@Mark, I have now used your plugin (from the store) and found it is straightforward and works well. Thanks for making it available. One question if I may: If I wanted to take several backups in a day, would the directory have a time stamp as well as a date? I can imagine that if I was developing a c...

Re: Backup and Restore FH Settings via Windows - new plugin
Mark, I'm about to migrate to new hardware and in the process move from W10 to W11. Questions: - when will your plugin be released (or is there anywhere it can be downloded now)? - is it designed to cater for the migration I've described? To date (i.e. earlier today) I used the alternative from the ...

Error checking for updates....
Nick, I get "Error checking for update: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive." when checking for updates from the AS menu. Happens with v5.2.0 64 bit and also happened with the previous version. Have mentioned it to Colevalleygirl and the same happens with ...

Mike,
Ok, it was some months ago when I looked at code in detail and may be confusing it with another product.

Re: Query re design of Improve Website or CD DVD HTML Plugin
Mike,
Maybe not a strong point these days, and was intended to be about the accumulated size of the resulting web page files. Perhaps a hangover on my part from the days of being forced to put common code in (sub)routines. (Grief, that was over 45 years ago...)
Thanks for the editor feedback.

Re: Query re design of Improve Website or CD DVD HTML Plugin
Mike, I would add my vote to a method of having a common group of routines / functions for use in FH plugins. You & others can debate what method of implementation would be best but good documentation of the routines / functions would be needed and each would need an owner as you describe (especiall...

Split Tree Helper - Multimedia Files
I keep some of my multimedia files (census & certificate images etc) outside of the FH project structure. Tailored (mainly cropped) images of people are within the project structure, along with the gedcom. The result is my single collection of certificate & census images are shared across multiple F...

360 and still going....!
After a few weeks of using A.S. I thought Id add a summary view to the forum posts. Ive used FH since the initial versions, and Gedcom Census fairly soon after its birth. However, Ive never used the autotext facility, nor have I attached images. After A.S. was launched I was keen to use it, but a...

Image Window Observations
Nick, Many thanks for the prompt responses. For (c): If you do this you should find that Ancestral Sources will learn where each folder is - so, for example, next time you open add an image to a UK 1881 entry it will open the folder where you keep your UK 1881 images. I'd noticed how it always see...

Image Window Observations
Nick, A few observations / queries: (a) In the image window, selecting save, then yes (to copy the file to a chosen folder), then selecting cancel (to back out of the save transaction), the save button (in the right portion of the image window) gets greyed out and the image saved. It can be re...

User Interface Queries
Nick, While theyre fresh in my mind, a few very minor questions / comments on the user interface: 1. When searching the list for an existing image, the title option seems to show duplicate titles if a previous census entry has used multiple images. Am I doing something not as intended, or ma...

Do you see the same (or do I need a break..)?

Nick, Only a single occurrence of this, but your advice / input would be very helpful. Sequence: - add first image and save - add people - select second image (selecting a new un-saved file) but forget to save! - add remaining people and create autotext - save census entry - warning message that sec...

What shall I do next?
Nick, My initial data entry is normally from Parish Registers. On the basis that marriages entail the greater number of navigation keystrokes to enter in FH, I'd put them ahead of burials in the list of wishes. So... Baptisms (allowing your preference) Marriages Burials To ease processing of data fr...

Possible Enhancement: Census Entry Replacement
Nick, I've been a FH user for years, and have a legacy of old data entry - often done before settling on a standard method / format for recording facts. In my case, I'm now replacing some census entries (done years ago) with a more comprehensive & uniform set of facts & associates sources with media...

Autocomplete niggle??
Nick, I'm getting an inconsistent behaviour with the 'auto complete' behaviour in different fields. For example typing s (lower case) in the place field would bring up a place beginning with s from my place names, and (assuming the first auto selection is what I need), hitting 'tab' completes the se...

Nick, Thanks ! I've just followed your instructions and it all seems ok. Nick, Thanks for the reply, and understand the comment about the methods, but having started to use method 2 some time ago, my preference is to continue.
