If it helps, here's the gedcom file for this test chart.

Chart Query. Why are apparently the same relationships shown differently in a Diagram?
A simulated chart is attached – names changed. In one branch of my family, Grandmother Margaret ANDREWS, had “child 1”, by “Unidentified 1”, out of marriage. “Child 1” was adopted. She was then happily married to Kenneth SMITH with whom she had two sons. One of the sons marries Angela NOAKES, who ha...

Re: Sources - confusion reigns!
Many thanks, Mike. I'd missed the "gripper bars" bit! As I thought, it was a "silly me" moment with which I'm becoming more familiar as the years go by! And I hadn't read the guide carefully enough, anyway. I'd tried adjusting the property box boundary but all it did was expand the blank yellow sect...

Sources - confusion reigns!
I am not getting on very well with Sources! What seemed previously (I've not done much with FH for a while) to be a straightforward process seems to be no longer so. Specifically, I am trying to update a relative's record with his wartime service. I now have details in a letter from the MOD of his s...

Individual Summary Report Header
When I generate an Individual Summary Report for a person, the master page header is e.g. "Frederick Gross STOCKER (1865-1908)" I would prefer this to read; "STOCKER, Frederick Gross (1865-1908)" Is it possible to simply configure the report to this format? It would suit my paper filing system better!

Research Notes - I'm a bit lost!
I have not used the Research Note facility previously. I am a simple soul and decided to make, after several years usage of FH from v3 up to my present v7, my first research note. I duly set up a couple of notes with rubbish in them as a test and managed to understand the system. I then decided to d...

Re: Child born before marriage to unknown father
Thanks folks. I realise the sensitivity of this, especially as both the mother and son are still alive, so I'm tempted to leave things as they are! Talk about walking on eggs! But that's what makes this genealogy fascinating so long as you are aware of the pitfalls!

Child born before marriage to unknown father
I have come across a child born to a mother before she subsequently married another and went on to have two more children with her husband. The father is unknown and I'm not sure if the child was adopted or not but was not part of the main family only meeting up 40 years later. I'm not sure of the b...

Re: Combining .jpg files together
Good point Mike. However, at the moment I am keeping source info on my hard disk and imported into source records. I only show a thumbnail in reports, not relying on a full copy there. A bit old fashioned but suits my way of working. It is still possible to view images on the screen at whatever magn...

Re: Combining .jpg files together
Many thanks Niel40. Works perfectly! I actually have Irfanview on my computer and use it for viewing images in a very limited way. However, once I located "Image" then "Merge images (simple panorama image)", I was away! Just select the individual images, arrange in the sequence you want them to be s...

Combining .jpg files together
Perhaps not strictly an FH question but is causing me a bit of grief and very much related to my Family History record management! I have several documents e.g.reports, pamphlets etc that have been scanned as individual pages in .jpg format. I wish to use each of these documents in their entirety as...

All Relative Diagram limiting display of a couple of individuals
I am working on an All Relative Diagram (25 individuals). I've entered two sets of parents one for each of a married couple 3 generations back from my root. However, I find on the diagram that only one set of parents is shown connected to the correct one of the children, the other child has no paren...

Re: editing individual summary report sections
Thanks folks. a) I was obviously misunderstanding the screen. Should have looked harder! Now I understand the logic. b) Mike, I have checked with several projects I have and they all have the same settings for the Report Options! When I change a Main Section Item setting on one project, close the pr...

editing individual summary report sections
I wish to edit the content of the Main section of an individual summary report but can't fathom out the Report Options system! My current Report shows the Notes I wish to include under the "Individual Note" headed section of the report (which I want) but also in the Main Section "Note" (which I don'...

How embarassing! Strangely I don't think I've ever used the ADD button before. So obvious.

Adding new source record without relating initially to an individual?
I have been trying to add a number of pages from the 1939 census into my family tree in anticipation of adding citations at a later point from various individuals. It appears that I have to start with at least one individual in both Ancestral Sources and FH in order to create a source record - or am...

Re: File Folders within project duplicated?
Thanks Mike. However, I recognise where the file should be etc., but having realised that I had a duplicate, I wanted to confirm from within FH which file was actually being accessed. I suspect that is not possible and my assumption that "the file in the correct location was being used" was the only...

Re: File Folders within project duplicated?
Thanks Mike. I was just being perhaps over cautious. Yes, my project is working fine. However, this has raised another query in that I was unable to identify exactly which folder was being used by the project. In the "More Tasks" menu neither the "Browse for.." nor "Project List.." actually say whic...

File Folders within project duplicated?
I seem to have a second NAME.fh_datafolder within my file folders. The first instance is ; FAMILY HISTORIAN PROJECTS>NAME>NAME.fh_data - as I would expect and the second is ; FAMILY HISTORIAN PROJECTS>NAME.fh_data All the files are virtually identical except a couple of files show different "date mo...

I have replicated this situation a couple of times and confirmed that this alternative type of diagram link and appearance of duplicate box occurs when the person is not a blood relative.

Showing second marriages on charts
I have a pair of sisters who married the same man - legally I should add as the first sister died. After a file cleanup and a couple of corrections (thanks Mike) charts now show the two marriages with two separate boxes each for the husband married to the individual wives and a hoop-link for the two...
