A Trial for Bigamy
Hello, Yes I have those two marriages - and a third, less easily found it seems with Winifred Moate in Truro in 1943. The 1938 Rayner marriage was annulled because it was bigamous. The 1943 marriage was also annulled because it was bigamous too. Both women went on to remarry. However I am not convin...

A Trial for Bigamy
I am trying to research one or more bigamous marriages of a distant relative (William Lawrence Doloughan). I believe the trial(s) took place in London during the period 1940-1942. I am told by a relative that their own personal records were destroyed in 1943-1944 when a bomb hit the family home; the...

Jane, thank you
What is a 'whole record source citation'? Because the individual records already exist can such citations be added afterwards?
Thanks,
Ric

Birth Certificate Citations
I have looked at the excellent tutorial on adding a Birth Cerificate source and using auto-citations. It indicates that some 9-11 citations might be involved. The second part of the How-To (where individuals and families have been entered previously) simply states that a citation can be added to alm...

Tracking BMD and Census Records
I have been using flags to help track birth, marriage, death and census records (as a minimum) for individuals. By checking the flags I can see at a glance where, for example, there is no record for a particular census year. Other information could be christening, burial, war service records, trade ...

Flags in the Properties Window
I have recently transferred all my projects to a new PC - Windows 7/64 bit and all is well with that. In my version 4 that ran on my old XP machine I had set up a number of flags and added these to a 'Flags' tab which also had the default 'Living' and 'Private' flags. I think I must also have select...

Res Images
Hi, I want to create some high-resolution images of Diagrams for embedding into PageMaker. I'm looking for 300dpi but all I seem to get is 96dpi and images restricted to about 1000 px across or so. Ideally I'd like to print up to A3. Yes these are going to be big files but that's what I'm after. It ...

Unrelated Individuals Query
Hi both,
Thank you for the query. I had already looked at it and when I saw everyone listed I just thought: this can't be right. However, Pool Number was the key. Very neat.
Thanks

Presentation Binders
I have been trying to source a top-quality A3 Landscape binder. The kind Im looking for has padded or soft cover, perhaps leather-look, and has binding posts rather than rings. I want it for a 90th Birthday Present for a Family History so it's got to look good. Such binders used to be reasonably co...

Unrelated Individuals Query
I have been splitting a large tree and I want to check for any unrelated individuals lurking around in there. I can't see an 'unrelated individuals' query. Is there one?

Ric

Marriage Sources and Citations
Many thanks, I believe I have this worked out now. It's more a case of determining a strategy that at least stands some chance of enduring so that, as you correctly say, data is entered consistently. I have used the (Tools...Work with Data > Places...) option and at one time got myself into a mess b...

Hi Peter and thanks for your reply. ...then in some cases it may help to repeat just the relevant portion of the text in each citation; I presume you've done that for (4) & (5) Yes, I have done exactly that. For (6) and (7) add the two fathers as Individuals (if not in your tree already), then you c...

Marriage Sources and Citations
I think I have just about got my head round this one but.... I have a Marriage Cert. (1) The source document is the certificate. (2) The source in FH is an extract from the certificate showing the relevant details I can add the Sources (2) to individual records (e.g., the bride (4) and the groom (5)...

Can these be given IDs?

Private Individuals in Census Records
Hi, I have two imaginary individuals I use for test purposes. The Privacy flag is set for them so they never appear on the published GED. I also have a dummy census record, also for testing. When I inspect the exported GED (private individuals not included) the census record is still there and shows...

Census in England and Wales
Who technically is the author of the various census surveys in England and Wales.
I guess ultimately the data is Crown Copyright and that currently that data is managed by the ONS but which departments or gov't offices were responsible for each of the main ones since 1841?
Thanks,
Ric

Export and Missing Marriage Sources
Hi, thanks for replying. Interesting... Here's another check: Using the Split Tree Helper there is an option 'Delete Source Records left with no links to them'. This is not the default but an option in the drop-down box. If selected the Marriage sources are NOT removed. Ergo they are linked. The two...

Export and Missing Marriage Sources

Web Page Display - Any Better?
Hi, I use PhpGedView (PGV). It requires some effort to use and a web server with all the necessary capabilites (MySQL, PHP, etc); it also requires some effort to set up - at least initially. However the effort seems well worth it because what you get is a searchable dynamic database rather than a se...
