Re: Up and down arrows in Property Box - how do I use them?
Richard, you say you " have some facts in the wrong order ", so can you explain what ordering problems you have and we give more explicit advice. Maybe the auto-sort methods in the advice above are all you need. Hmm, seems like a false alarm now. I added a fact to the Facts tab with a date of this ...

Up and down arrows in Property Box - how do I use them?
I'm a bit confused over how to use the up and down arrows in the Property Box's Fact tab. I have some facts in the wrong order and want to rearrange them. However, whatever I do I can't seem to get the arrows to work. They are permanently greyed out even when I selected individual facts. Any help or...

Research forms confusion
I've just discovered a rich new source of family information in South Africa and want to request data in a simple and effective way using email. I thought preformatted research forms would be the way but looking online I have found a bewildering array of them in literally all forms (pardon the pun) ...

Re: Delete unnamed spouse
Mike, many thanks for your excellent and timely advice. I have managed to delete the incorrect record.
You're quite right, I should have said 'unnamed person' rather than 'unnamed spouse'. Forgive me, it was done in the frustration of the moment.
Your help is much appreciated.

Delete unnamed spouse
I've got into a bit of a mess with one of my relatives; adding a spouse and child, then discovering I had the wrong name for the wife, creating a new spouse record with the same child, deleting the name of the first spouse but now being stuck with an 'unnamed spouse' that I can't find a way to delet...

Thanks again, Mike. Sounds like this might just be the solution I need to some of the road blocks I've encountered in my research.

Re: Can online services support FH research?
Thanks, Mike. Is it normal to subscribe to Ancestry et al for short periods of time to get the information you need? If you cancel a subscription at any time is the data you accessed still available to you?

Can online services support FH research?
Family Historian has been and continues to be my primary resource for my family history research for some time now. However, after a recent demo of Ancestry.co.uk, I'm wondering if it's worth investing in a subscription to that or other online genealogical services in order to get access to their ri...

Re: FH and Windows 8.1
Thanks for the useful information, much appreciated. You say I just need to install the V4 to V5 upgrade, is that only if I have a full copy of V4? As I said, my full copy of FH is v2.1.8 and I'm forced to start with that before I can install my updates. Would that be the same under v5? Again, thank...

Re: FH and Windows 8.1
Coincidentally have just installed FH on my new Windows 8.1 PC. It was a convoluted process involving a special piece of software to allow me to install my original FH 2.1 CD-ROM, followed by my FH 3 CD-ROM then an upgrade patch from 3 to 4.1 (with registration keys all along the way). However, it s...

So what about the Ipad ??
I don't (currently) have an iPad but I have used an iPhone for a while now. If you are interested in carrying around copies of documents could I heartily suggest two services that make use of 'cloud storage', namely Evernote and Dropbox. Both are designed to give you access to documents almost anywh...

V3 - worth the upgrade?
I've just returned to Family Historian after a a long period and find there is a whole new version to consider. I've upgraded my current version to v2.3.5 but was wondering if it's worth taking the 'next step' to v3. I've read through the new features list and like the sound of some of them. It woul...

Sources + Citations = confusion
Jane,
Thank you for a prompt and useful reply to my request for help.
As you suggested I did a search on 'sources' and ended up with more information than I know what to do with!
I'll take some time to digest it all and get back to you if I have any further queries. Thanks again.
Richard

Sources + Citations = confusion
Forgive my denseness (density?) but I am struggling to understand the uses of FH's Sources and Citations feature and its place as an alternative to Notes. Most of what I have read so far covers using Sources as a starting point for entering data about an individual. Like the excellent demonstration ...
