Re: Colour Coding Infant Deaths

Many thanks Jane - worked a treat :)

I also had a look at the advanced help file as you suggested. As the name suggests it is advanced so will not be an easy start up the learning curve. But I'll have a go using it next time

Colour Coding Infant Deaths

I'd like to colour code the box fill colour of infant deaths (eg age <1 at death) by setting up a condition in Diagram Options. I'm working on the assumption that %INDI.DEAT.AGE% is the data reference I need. But I can't seem to find any help online on creating the full expression from there and my ...

Re: Producing a 'Conditional' Descendant Tree

Thanks, both of you. J had tried manually hiding boxes but I was finding that I started to lose branches I needed but weren't displayed on the diagram that was open. (Endogamy I think was the issue.) I tried Mike's thought of marking and hiding non DNA-matched individuals using the menu commands. I ...

Producing a 'Conditional' Descendant Tree

Bear with me – this post eventually relates to FH diagrams. On ancestry, I’ve got a very extensively researched tree of about 300 individuals in the US and Canada that includes about 20 people who I match in DNA terms. I have two problems that I'm trying to resolve: • I can trace the ancestry of alm...

Re: Setting up a query on Places

Thanks Mike,

That gave me a list of a dozen people and I could then visually scan for the potential surname matches I needed.

Yourr help is much appreciated

Re: Setting up a query on Places

Thanks Mike - very helpful. Using a separate "Add if %FACT.PLAC% contains" expression for each of the three towns/counties in the Rows window, I've now got a list of about seventy five people and that is now a Named List. I can reduce that list of most likely DNA matches further by restric...

Setting up a query on Places

I've got a series of DNA matches that I can't yet connect via BMD's, etc.. However they do live in the same area in the US - the Catskill Mountains. That isn't a place name as such but I've got the counties and towns that are in that area. Is it possible to set up a : combined expression for Place 1...

Thanks Neil - sorted :)

I'd completely forgotten that the save options were under the Diagram Menu :(

Saving to jpg - or something similar

I've got a standalone tree of about 200 connected people about 20 of whom are DNA matched into my family via an NPE. All the DNA matches are flagged and an expression colour codes the boxes. So each match is very easily visible on the tree. As a starter I'd like a newly discovered third cousin (anot...

Re: Find my Past... or Ancestry ?

You probably know this already but look for a good discounted price first and then go via a cashback site (i use a browser plugin that gives me the headsup that one is available). That reduced the fmp cost by £30 and ancestry (where there is usually a 50% link on this site) by £10. Every little help...

Thumbnail Update

I'm going through all my image files and inverting all the ones that were probably from microfiches/films (ie black and white reversed). The screenshot shows what happens after I invert and save the jpg. The full size image is correct but the thumbnail does not update Is there a better way of updati...

Re: Repeat of Ancestors on Chart

Thanks Lorna, The Hide Duplicated Family Branches box was already ticked. I toggled it on and off and rebuilt the ancestor tree each time to see if it made a difference, but the coloured 'ribbon' remained throughout. I can see the benefit of the way the tree is presented so I think I'll follow your ...

Re: Repeat of Ancestors on Chart

Thanks, I thought I'd pasted the image from the clipboard into the text box as per instructions. Certainly I could open it at this end so not sure what happened. Did it a different way this time so, fingers crossed, this will work. (I've certainly got a green tick mark on the status of the added fil...

Repeat of Ancestors on Chart

I wonder if someone can cast their eye on the attached diagram. Hubert and Hilda (botom of tree) were second cousins who married but their common gg parents are repeated in the diagram. Their ancestors go back a few more generation so this duplicate tree just gets larger and larger. I've checked all...

Re: Merging Two Disparate Trees

Thanks Lorna, I'll give that suggestion a try. After a couple of hours at it I think I can simplify things off a little before I try that. there are new, unique records in my dirty tree that I'll unlink and just relink into my 'live' tree. there are some records in my dirty tree that are there just ...

Re: Multiple Monitors

Thanks Helen for the clarification, :D

Spanning the FH window across the three monitors seems the best available approach without the risk of having two instances of the FH data file open.

Re: Multiple Monitors

Sorry, if the first post wasn't clear enough. I have FH showing on my centre monitor and there are several tree diagrams (ancestor/descendant/etc) I have created and are shown on the left hand (tab column?) of the FH window. I can obviously display one chart/query/etc at a time on the centre monitor...

Multiple Monitors

Is there a way I can show a different tree on each of 3 monitors. (Will help in enormously in sorting out duplicate records.)

Currently, if I drag a window either left or right from my centre monitor it doesn't appear on the other one.

TIA

Merging Two Disparate Trees

I've successfully built a dirty tree to validate how a DNA Match might fit into my main tree. (They're in the same FH project file.) I'm now left with two unconnected trees where, between them, each has both unique and duplicate people. Those duplicate people might have different records and sources...

So if your default Media directory is outside the Project folder you will have to copy each file one by one.
Then the Auto Repair Links button should still work to recover the links.
Thanks Mike. This is the one I'll need to do.

Re: Comparing Files and Merging Required Differences

The selecting of a subset of people and exporting/merging into my current file really went quite well. By looking at a sorted 'updated' field on the old file, I was able to identify exactly the transactions I'd added after the last full back up so it was only necessary to export these. There was a b...

Comparing Files and Merging Required Differences

I had a major problem at the end of March where I could not access any of my FH data file. Luckily I had a full back up taken a couple of weeks prior to this problem occurring so have been using that since then. Now I've got access back to my end March files but I know there is two weeks work that w...

Re: Error Message after installing v7.7.0

Same issue after trying to instal 7.7.1 as administrator. I just ignored the AS error messages to see what might happen and I then got a warning message from my security software (Norton 360) that something ancestral sources was doing had been blocked. I had the option of getting N360 to ignore the ...
