Re: Query to find family branch members
John
The new query is picking up an extra 15 people than the first query.
However, it has managed to make a connection to my father's 2nd wife, her son and parents
Helen (Ethel R) AINSWORTH is wife of Edwin SIMPSON and Edwin SIMPSON is ex-husband of daughter of James CARNEY

Re: Query to find family branch members
Thanks Mike & Lorna, I can understand the issue now.
I hadn't thought about the children going back up via their mother and into her branch.

Re: Query to find family branch members
Mike
It is my mother's father that I was using as the root person.
So I thought that by unlinking her from her parents there would be no connection to my father and thus the Simpson family.

Re: Query to find family branch members
Thanks Mike. Yes, I can see now why it might be very difficult (Impossible?) to get what I am looking for. i.e. All connections to the root (my grandfather) except for a given child (my mother) If the query expanded down from the root by any child, then by default it would pick up any siblings of th...

Re: Query to find family branch members
James Carney (my grandfather) is the person that I have been using as the root person. It seems (to me) a little peculiar in who is returned and who isn't. For example the query returns Patrick Bird who is described as No direct relationship found between Patrick BIRD and James CARNEY. Patrick BIRD ...

Re: Query to find family branch members
I've just run John's 'All Branch Relatives' query, with the added 'Add if a spouse of anyone in the current result set. Include relatives spouses.' The results are pretty good. Based on a manual process I get a result set of 365 people. The query returns 304, leaving 61 'missing' I checked out the m...

Query to find family branch members
I would like to create a query that would identify which branch of my family people belong to. e.g. Select one of my 4 grandparents and return a list of all people (not just direct ancestors) in that branch. (As far as I know, there are no cross branch connections above my grandparents) Had a quick ...

Runs in Debug mode but crashes in Live
This is a bit of a vague question I'm afraid. I have just updated a plugin to v7 - "Updated Last 7, 14, or 30 days All Record types" It runs perfectly in Debug mode but when run in Live mode it crashes after asking for the two inputs. I have tried error trapping but as I can't get it to fa...

Re: iupButtons for v7
Hi Helen
strButton is I believe picked up from the input table.
However I'm not really sure - the code is from 'User Interface Buttons Snippet' by Mike and Jane.
Mike
Many thanks, that works a treat.
Thanks to you both.

Re: iupButtons for v7
Hi Helen Many thanks for your reply, and I can get it to work but only partially. The example prints i & v to the console with the correct values. However, when I try and incorporate it into the code to produce the buttons, I can't get it right. It displays the grid for the buttons and displays ...

iupButtons for v7
I've been asked to update a plugin that i wrote in 2016 so that it works with v7. My stumbling block is around iupButtons which I can't find a solution for. Any help would be much appreciated. It fails on for intArgNum, strButton in ipairs(arg) do with "error attempt to index a nil value" ...

I haven't come across =GetLabelledText() before, or if I had I didn't appreciate what it did.

Query - look for text in Note
As usual I think I am asking for the impossible or something near it. I'm trying to write a query that looks at %INDI.NOTE2[1]% There will always be a line in that note somewhere in it that looks like:- CENSUSES: (c1847-1924) (where the values in brackets are there person's life dates) Don't ask why...

Re: Handling Fact Flags in a plugin
Hi Mike Thanks for that, it works a treat --Create a Flag tag on the BIRT --ptrFlag2 is a pointer to the BIRT event local ptrFlagNew = fhCreateItem("_FLGS", ptrFlag2) -- This creates the tag local ptrFlagNew2 = fhCreateItem("__PREFERRED", ptrFlagNew) -- This sets the value Regards

Thanks for that Mike.
Unfortunately I haven't managed to find the correct syntax for setting the value for the tag.
I'll persevere and see what I can come up with.

Handling Fact Flags in a plugin
I'm writing a plugin to set the 'Preferred' flag on all BIRT events. [This relates to https://groups.io/g/family-historian/message/7112 - Highlight or Colour Facts on the property box] Following Mike's code above I can check if the flag already exists, so skip to next INDI. I can create the tag OK, ...

Export Gedcom v5.3 - Crashes
Hi I'm writing on behalf of a friend. She has just upgraded from v5.2 to v5.3 Using v5.2 it ran fine, but v5.3 gives the error message shown below OS: Windows 10 Pro FH: v6.2 ExportGed.png I personally can run v5.3 on Windows 11, using the same gedcom and get no problems.
