Sorry Irene, just seen your post. Sounds like you had a good deal! I contacted Ancestry to ask if I could have a discount if I rejoined them, and they said no. I then asked if I could have a discount as I was a member of the National Trust, and they said no, as I had been a member previously!! Miser...

Sorry Margaret, just seen your reply. I used to use FTM a few years ago (a free copy) and I quite liked it but hated that it tied into Ancestry. I am much happier with FH, although i feel I have such a lot to learn still. I find it much more complicated but also truly comprehensive! Lucky you being ...

Yes Jane, that's what I intend to do too. I was just a bit worried that I might be stuck with it; but now I know I can uninstall it without it affecting my Ancestry sub, I am happy!

I have just bought Family Tree Maker Platinum 2011 in order to get 6 months subscription; it was cheaper than taking out a year's sub. Has anyone else done this, and are there any potential problems? I don't want to use FTM, as I am quite happy with FH but I have to load FTM in order to activate Anc...

Thank you for the link. I am puzzled by Griffith's Valuation though; if you have a common Irish name - mine is Begley - how can you tell if it is your ancestor? There is no date of birth or any other identifying info as far as I can see. Am I being daft?
