Re: Ancestral Sources Version 5.3.0

The first four of those bullet points are listed in the AS Help page Introduction - read this first under Version History but the others are not. Ah thanks Mike - in that case it may be that the other points I listed above were added afterwards and are not in this version. They're mainly very minor...

Re: Ancestral Sources Version 5.3.0

I believe the changes in 5.3 are: The automatic check for new updates introduced in 5.1.3 wasn't working correctly but should from now on. David Potter spotted a bug that no one else has reported despite it being in Ancestral Sources for over five years! If the option was selected to record age in r...

Re: Ancestral Sources Version 5.3.0

Looking back in my emails I had finished 5.3 back in November 2016 but had meant to add another feature or two to it before releasing it. But I did upload it for David to access. Then I had a very long period where I wasn't thinking about Ancestral Sources. In fact I've only very recently started to...

Re: Date error on baptism entry

It's comparing the September baptism date with the previously recorded date of birth (October to December) and giving the warning. It's just a double check in case you're making a typing error and if what you're entering is correct then you can just ignore it. Nothing to do with the original issue r...

Re: AS download

There was an issue with 5.2 earlier in the week which meant that it had to be removed (not something to go into here). I think the fact there was a 5.3 there meant the assumption was that was the latest version. I think in my own head I thought I'd released 5.3 long ago but looks like I didn't. I ex...

Re: AS Not Creating Census Entry

FH is the problem I think because it autosaves, whereas AS only saves when you click the save button and even then it does a final check that the file hasn't been updated before writing the file. In my testing I have definitely had FH autosave unnecessarily when I'd already saved and not edited anyt...

Presumably, in that scenario, the Facts (Census & Occupation in this example) will get obliterated too.
Well yes of course! I was just using referring to the source id to illustrate how this could happen.

Re: AS Not Creating Census Entry

You always need to make sure you've pressed save in FH before swapping over to AS because FH will occasionally auto save if there are changes that haven't been saved. I can see a potential scenario where FH might autosave a fraction of a second after AS has saved and before FH notices the change. So...

Re: Ancestral Sources not updating FH6

I don't really think this is anything to do with updates to. Net or links between AS and, net because it doesn't really work like that. Also everyone will get similar updates but I'm not aware of others having this problem. I think something else unrelated to the AS program was happening here, proba...

Re: Ancestral Sources not updating FH6

Some things to try... Does your file validate correctly in Family Historian (File->Validate)? With Family Historian closed... Does the modified date/time on the file 'E:\Documents\Family Historian Projects\Rosser 010119\Rosser 010119.fh_data\Rosser 010119.ged' change when you save it in AS? If it do...

Re: Sources, Citations and Methods for Census Households

There is no problem at all with including two households in one entry, other than perhaps consistency with your other census records. Once AS has saved your entry and created the facts, sources, multimedia records, etc. then you can do what you like with them in FH, including adding addition notes, ...

This is why I rarely bother replying to posts nowadays - he always beats me to it :) When you enter information with Ancestral Sources, if you require a transcription of exactly what is on a certificate or cen...

Re: Census Entry: Witness or Not?

What you say about needing to make 10 amendments if you need to alter something about a 10 person census form is perfectly correct....that's the Data Analyst in me speaking. Yeah, I almost mentioned in the original post about the downside of de-normalized data ;) I just wanted to jump in here and m...

Re: Ancestral Sources & Family Historian 5

Bit Defender is just being cautious, quite rightly, because Ancestral Sources doesn't have a software certificate to prove who it has been created by. Last time I investigated purchasing a certificate it cost over £100 a year to do so, which I didn't really feel I wanted to pay for what is effective...

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Hi Brian Yes the templates are in the Ancestral Sources folder in your Documents folder in a file called settings.xml. When you're adding census entries and you choose the country I'm guessing that you have UK and U.K. in that list. If you choose UK rather than U.K. then it will probably work using ...

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Brian I found a rootsweb FHU email thread from January 2015 where you asked if there was a way that you could append the occupation to the census fact in Ancestral Sources rather than use Occupation and Mike Tate (Tatewise) explained: "Essentially you must change the Occupation column item for each ...

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Hi Brian So when the entry was created for Cornelius, presumably you went into Family Historian and edited the note in the census record to say 'occupation shown as labourer'. I would have expected to see an individual Fact for occupation in your list too - are you deleting that as part of the proce...

Re: Occupation missing from Census tab

Hi Brian I'm wondering if you've updated the census templates in AS so that occupation isn't saved as a fact but is instead added to the census fact as a note. This isn't something I'd ever recommend but would explain why the occupations aren't showing up. Do you remember doing that? If you look at ...

Re: Banns

I don't think it's likely that I would build in a mechanism to allow an entry to be made that generates multiple sources. It just doesn't really fit in with the mechanisms that AS uses. I could envisage adding functionality to the marriage entry facility to allow the dates of banns to be recorded if...

Re: Ancestral Sources v5.2 Font Size

If Ancestral Sources is maximised and the fonts are too big, some text and buttons won't be displayed properly and scroll bars won't currently appear on most screens to help you with this. Generally users who have set their Windows display settings to 175% or more (I assume you've done this?) would ...
