Re: Associated Individuals and Witness Roles

Thanks Mike. I guess a fourth option would be to just remove the missing witness roles from AS? I think these would be the ones in bold (assuming the KB article is correct) Birth ~ Informant Baptism ~ Godparent, Minister, Priest, Rabbi Marriage ~ Best man, Bridesmaid, Minister, Priest, Rabbi, Witnes...

Re: 1939 Register - Auto Text amendment to put Surname first

Thanks Margaret for this suggestion earlier in the year. In the next version of Ancestral Sources it will be possible to specify in each census template whether the name should be displayed with surname first or last.

Re: Electoral Rolls

I know this is an old thread, but the next version of Ancestral Sources should go a long way to making it more straightforward to record Electoral Registers as well as other things which are similar to census. Census records in AS now have a Type which by default is 'Census' but templates can be cre...

Since it is repeatable, then Nick (the AS author) should be able to resolve the problem.
This is an old post but this issue should be fixed in the next version of Ancestral Sources.

Re: Census Method 2 - Link images to entries

Although I don't like the concept of census images being linked directly to an individual, this option will be available for method 2 census sources in the next version of AS.

Best wishes

I know this is an old topic but just to let you know that the next version of AS will correctly record this folder as 'Media' rather than 'media'.

Re: Census entry for a widow

In the next version of AS, the autotext prediction of a woman's surname has been improved so the death of a spouse is taken into account if a marriage has no date. I also fixed a bug with the marriage status prediction if a widow subequently remarried. Thanks for reporting this Colin. Best wishes Nick

Re: Census entry for a widow

AS also regards them as married if the male is still alive, so it is not logical to treat the widow by reverting to her single name simply because the male is dead. It's been many years since I've looked at this aspect of AS but I've just done some testing and also looked at the program code and my...

BTW: The default Relation droplist does not include Widow, but it can be added to the template or simply typed in.
Widow isn't a relationship, it's a condition and Widow is one of the options in the condition column.

Re: Ancestral Sources - Remove Flag Support?

sgauntlett, I think Nick wants to remove the code to make the application simpler to maintain, so making it optional wouldn't be possible if he did that. In the next version there can be categories within 'Census' so, for example, you could have UK Voting List or 1939 Register, and this complicates...

Ancestral Sources - Remove Flag Support?

I'd like to remove the support for creating flags in the next version of Ancestral Sources (and also the Census Date Check and Flag Check processes). The main reason for having flags in the first version of Ancestral Sources was to allow for the icons to be added to tree diagrams. But since FH v4 th...

Re: Cloud based software

Cloud based software would be a web based application (effectively a website), in a similar way to how you can run cut-down versions of Word, Excel, etc. in web applications from any modern web browser via Chrome, Linux, Windows, etc. So if there was a web based version of FH it would be accessible ...

Re: Marriage Witnesses

I will have to remember to do this next time I use it. Itis rare for anybody to know who the best man is and I never understood why that was a default. If I recall correctly the burial details have a witness drop down menu. How many people know the witness names? The list in AS just mimics the same...

Try running AS and then go to the start menu and type Event Viewer open up the Windows Logs and then the Application log and see if there are any errors that appear to relate to AS not running (the time should coincide with when you last ran it). If so then please double-click on the event to open i...

Re: Can't launch the program

The issue may be that you don't have the .Net framework 3.5 installed. This page explains how to install it: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/dotnet ... windows-10. Follow the steps in the section 'Enable the .NET Framework 3.5 in Control Panel'.

Re: Ancestral Sources Version 5.3.0

Looking back in my emails I had finished 5.3 back in November 2016 but had meant to add another feature or two to it before releasing it. But I did upload it for David to access. Then I had a very long period where I wasn't thinking about Ancestral Sources. In fact I've only very recently started to...

It's comparing the September baptism date with the previously recorded date of birth (October to December) and giving the warning. There was an issue with 5.2 earlier in the week which meant that it had to be removed (not something to go into here). Re: AS Not Creating Census Entry

FH is the problem I think because it autosaves, whereas AS only saves when you click the save button and even then it does a final check that the file hasn't been updated before writing the file. In my testing I have definitely had FH autosave unnecessarily when I'd already saved and not edited anyt...

Re: AS Not Creating Census Entry

You always need to make sure you've pressed save in FH before swapping over to AS because FH will occasionally auto save if there are changes that haven't been saved. I can see a potential scenario where FH might autosave a fraction of a second after AS has saved and before FH notices the change. So...
