Re: Record Census Data (UK) updated for 1921
I got into the site okay. I wanted to see both my parents' census entries. Annoyingly, on the first entry I paid £2.25 for a transcription and wondered why I couldn't see the census return itself - the £2.25 is just to see the transcription. I should have read the instructions correctly! I duly paid...

Re: FH6.2 will not open
Again, I spoke too soon and still I couldn't open FH. I've removed Avast completely now and all seems well. Only time will tell.

Re: FH6.2 will not open
Jane, I tried it in Safe Mode and it worked fine. I made an 'exception' in Avast for the FH folder and now everything seems to be working. Thanks, Martin.

Re: FH6.2 will not open
I spoke too soon. I closed FH after adding a new person and saving. I then tried reopening it but now it won't load again. I've tried it several times. I haven't opened it in safe mode yet although as explained above, it did load after I'd restarted the PC in normal mode.

Re: FH6.2 will not open
I downloaded a few Windows 10 updates manually. They appeared to install. I then decided to restart the computer although there weren't any messages when it closed and reopened as happens with major updates. When computer was restarted I was able to open FH with no problems. Whether it was any thing...

Re: FH6.2 will not open
I've also been using FH for years and it now won't open. I've even tried opening it from fh.exe in Windows Explorer but nothing. I get the opening FH rectangle in the middle of the screen but then it goes away. I'm using Avast not AVG. Cheers, Martin.

Re: Marriage dates
Hi Mike. No, I have got the latest version on FH - I've always kept up-to-date. I'll amend my profile shortly.
Anyway, the Query worked and I've now got the marriage list I need - many thanks.
Regards, Martin.

Re: Marriage dates
Tatewise: this is what I would like the column headings of the Query to look like: Day/Month..........Male spouse.............Female spouse.............Year The first column of 'Day/Month' (marriage date) e.g. 23 May, should be in ascending order. The reason for me wanting such a list is that today ...

Re: Marriage dates
Thanks for the replies. Although I've had FH since about 2002 I haven't really dabbled in Queries. I tried editing the Birthday Query and I got all the dates correct but somehow got the children of the married individuals rather than the individuals themselves! Anyway I have the FH manual so I'll ha...

Marriage dates
Does anyone know how to order marriage dates by day and month? E.g. I would like to see something like this: 1 Jan 1981 1 Jan 1983 1 Jan 1987 2 Jan 1933 2 Jan 1947 8 Jan 1881 8 Feb 2001 ...and so on. If you try and do it in the records window with an (ordered) marriage date column, you get dates in ...

Windows 8 installation
Thanks but when I enter the key for version 4, the machine just locks up - it's happened twice now. I suspect this is one of the quirks of Windows 8 that everyone moans about. I'll give it another go in the morning.

Windows 8 installation
Thanks. I did download the evaluation version from the FH website, but only entered the version 5 licence key details, which it didn't like. Are you saying I have to initially enter version 4 licence key then the version 5 licence key?
Cheers, Martin.

Windows 8 installation
I've recently had to get a new laptop as the previous one had given up the ghost. I've now got Windows 8. Consequently I had to reinstall FH. I've got FH discs from version 2 with all the upgrades to version 5. As I had version 2.1.8 for 2002-3 I had to install the CD backed installer as per instru...

Installation on new computer
This has probably been asked before: I've just got a new PC and want to intall FH on it. I've got all disks up to version 4, which I've been using on my previous computer so I could use them for the installation on the new machine. Alternatively can I just download the latest version from the FH web...

marriage to two sisters
To complicate matters I have a man in my family tree that had an affair with his wife's sister. I have to show both relationships because there was a child from the illicit affair! I simply linked the man to the second sister as a spouse and credited the relationship as 'never married' in the marita...

Diagram shrinking?
Using Jane's method I reduced a 15 x 3 tree (45 pages) to a 10 x 2 (20 pages) tree with ease.

Diagram shrinking?
I've just printed out a family tree for someone and it's 45 pages - a lot of taping to be done! Is there a way I can shrink the tree down to show the same info but on a smaller amount of sheets? I've already moved the grid around to make it three pages high as opposed to four pages. Regards, Martin....

Deleting empty boxes
Through trial and error, I worked out how to do it myself. I selected the All tab in the Property Box and selected the section and clicked on Clear Link and now the box is gone. In the meantime after my tree 'clean-up', another empty box had reared its ugly head and I disposed of that one also. Hope...

I think I may have had this problem before but I'm baffled as to what to do. On my tree I've a husband with two wives and it turns out that the first wife is the mother of the children, not the second. I unlinked the children from the second wife and assigned them to be the offspring of the first wi...
