Re: Validation Report problem
It did indeed. Thank you so much, Mike. Appreciate the warning and will run a File/Validate to check. Hah! The three error messages all said that a duplicate link of the man to the family has been removed! I promise you that I only fixed them once! At least the husbands are all now associated with t...

Validation Report problem
After my PC crash a couple of weeks ago, I reloaded my files from backups and received a validation report containing three lines of the kind: "Individual Record Id=133201 (Henry Avenall): Male is linked to a family as spouse, but is not listed in the family as the husband. Family Id=40436 (......

Re: Advice, please, after laptop meltdown
Thank you very much, Mike. I think I purchased v6 outright. I have the key for that. No, I did not back up anything other than the GED file. I have a simple, very standard file. However, I will review the source you advised. Perhaps it might save me time in future. I've downloaded a replacement v6 a...

Advice, please, after laptop meltdown
I’m trying to rebuild my laptop after a major crash. My data is backed up but FH was not. I’m looking for advice on what to do next, please. Is it simpler just to go straight to FH7? Will it recognize my v6 GED file and load OK? Or, should I download a fresh copy of v6 and then upgrade it? Thanks fo...

Re: Name Suffixes in Records Window
Thank you, Mike and Bill. You have correctly realized that I had been putting the suffix directly into the name field as Thomas /Howes/ Jr. I will move the name suffixes into the proper Name Suffix field. Seems the simplest solution. There aren't more than a few hundred! Last night I did the same wi...

Name Suffixes in Records Window
Hello folks. My issue is that I am seeing name suffixes in the Records Window causing all the Thomas HOWES Jrs to appear in a separate part of the list from the other Thomas HOWESes. With a large One-Name Study I have LOTS of opportunity for such confusion! Here's what I mean: Thomas.JPG How can I f...

Re: Import from FTM - UDFs .MAP, .MAP.LATI and .MAP.LONG
Just want to say thanks from me too. As the project manager for the RUBY One-Name Study, I'm needing to import quite a few files produced by FTM, many of which have been geo-coded, and this has answered my prayers!

Re: The words "Attribute Value" appear in my TNG results
Thanks again, Mike. The errant phrase has now disappeared. Marvellous. May I ask another question, please? The output file appears to have generated a 113-line report, some of which appear to be errors or at least warnings, which appears as an additional query window. Where can I learn more about th...

Re: The words "Attribute Value" appear in my TNG results
Hello Mike. Looks like I moved the file over the wrong way, but you had guessed that already! I copied everything to a massive thumbdrive and ported it across, in significant part because of a sudden failure of the touchpad on my old laptop, other parts (sound, video, half the RAM!) having previousl...

The words "Attribute Value" appear in my TNG results
Not sure this is a FH problem or a TNG one, but only my usage of FH has changed recently. If you go to my TNG website http://howesfamilies.com/getperson.php?personID=I18807&tree=Onename you can see that under the marriages, the witness names are preceded by "Attribute Value:" I've not ...

Re: Primary birth fact
Hello Mike. I am intrigued by your notion of a plug in to allow for different ordering, because after just a few days with 6.2.5 I am experiencing one slight wobble in our current approach which worked just fine in version 5 but doesn't appear to work in v6. When I'm done with editing a particular i...

Re: Primary birth fact
Folks, I hope I can give a little background to Ian's question. We work together on the One-Name Study into our surname. At my suggestion, he purchased FH last week. I'm doing my best to help him from far away but I could not answer his question, especially given that I have been using v5. (I upgrad...

Re: Note fields not transferring from FTM GED
Thank you very much for the swift reply, Mike. Yes, since I now have the master file, I have followed the instructions to the letter, I believe. The (short) error report on import contained two references to known issues and aren't relevant, BUT I checked the Notes tab and they are indeed all there!...

Note fields not transferring from FTM GED
Hello folks. Wondering whether someone can help me with this problem, please. I have a GED file output from Family Tree Maker 2012 by a helpful correspondent which contains several notes attached to individual facts, not the general notes field for the individual. This is a "clean" GED fil...

Question regarding Events and Attributes?
I'm not actually sure what the problem is, but I'd really appreciate some help, please! If you can answer at either one or both of two levels, (1) here's how you fix it and (2) here's what you don't understand/are doing wrong, that would be brilliant. Thank you in advance. The observed issue: severa...

Sorting sources under Windows 8
In addition to being a new FH user, I've just switched computers and am now running FH in the Desktop under Win8. Under Win7 when entering and sourcing new data items, I found that by clicking the Citations column in the Select Source window, FH ordered all my sources in line with the number of cita...

Sorting apparently duplicate facts
Thanks again, Mike. It was flexible programming!
I'll fiddle with the records I can, but it sure would be handy to be able to adjust those fact suffixes and designate a preferred fact. As I say that, I know I'm looking backward rather than forward and I'll try to get over it!

Sorting apparently duplicate facts
Thanks for the super quick reply, Mike. Something surprising is happening, though. I am beginning to use FH for data entry, rather than just transfer data across from FTM. Let me relate what I just experienced. I had only the barest of data for one person: a name and a year of birth. I just added bi...

Sorting apparently duplicate facts
Posted a question on this topic in the wish list section earlier and didn't realize it probably doesn't get much viewing. So here goes again. I'm a newbie getting used to FH having previously used FTM Some of the subtleties in approach between the two programs are still emerging for me. I have lots ...
