Re: 1881,1891,1901 CENSUS BIRTHS DIFFERENT
Where was the marriage? In any part of the UK in 1874 there should have been witnesses recorded. Scottish marriage records include the mother’s name but other regions of the UK recorded only the father. As you have both the father’s and the mother’s name you could try searching for a baptism record....

Re: 1881,1891,1901 CENSUS BIRTHS DIFFERENT
You say you have his marriage certificate. Does it include his father’s name and occupation? If so, that might help to identify him in earlier censuses when he would have been about 10 (1861) and 20 (1871). You might be able to find him in a household with his father. (Of course you need to bear in ...

Re: Monumental Inscriptions - thoughts?
I felt that Monumental Inscriptions was the best name for this as it was a broader term. Does this seem reasonable? Yes. Keep it broad. It could even be used for ‘Blue Plaques’ (on a building where someone lived) or inscriptions on a park bench. Which date do you think the template creator envisage...

Yes, in the Report options, Main tab, untick the option to Inc. Parents. Is there anyway around FH inserting the "son of Papa NEWPROJECT (1911-1989) [3] and Mama NEWPROJECT (1910-1990) [2]" into the narrative report?

Re: Marriage record id
I agree with Nick. The Focus window was introduced to provide an uncluttered summary. In fact with the default settings it doesn’t even include the Individual IDs, although these can be added. However, on a related issue, CP do seem strangely reluctant to make new users even aware of the existence o...

Re: Marriage record id
Ron, It looks as if you work with the Property box docked beside the Focus window, so if you just want to be able to see the Family ID number easily, click on the Marriage event line in the Focus window and that will display the Family record in the Property box, where the ID number appears in the C...

Re: Search and delete duplicate Family
I thought the OP was worried that if the family with two children was merged into the family with one child the extra child would be lost. (It wouldn’t be) It’s true that if any of the children in the two families have different ID numbers but are in fact the same person they would need to be merged...

Re: Search and delete duplicate Family
I agree with Mike, any extra children will be preserved by default. You would have to deliberatley remove them if you didn't want them to be kept. However, to answer jacque's question about how to switch the order of the records being merged, this is from the Help file: A Selector Dialog will appear...

Re: Search and delete duplicate Family
Hello, welcome to FHUG. I think you probably have only one record for Tellev and only one for his wife Tone, but you have created two Family records for them. First, click on each of the two boxes for Tellev in the Focus window to open his Property Box. Is the Record ID (shown at the top next to his...

Re: Record ID
I hate to contradict Lorna, but few of the popular Report types have a Record Id tick Option and few of them have a Main tab. Two that do are the Outline Reports and Record Detail Reports. Mike, I didn't say anything about how many report types have a Record ID tick option or a Main tab, so I don't...

Hello, welcome to FHUG. You didn't say which type of report you are looking at, but you should be able to remove the Record ID. With the report open, click on the Options tab to the right. On the Main tab of the Report Options window there will be a section listing which types of item can be include...

Re: Adding Media files.
Are we all agreed that it is highly desirable that on the media tab of the property box there should be an option for all of the images associated with the individual to be listed? I woudn't object but I wouldn't use it, so for me it's definitely not 'highly desirable'. The Media tab of the Propert...

Re: Adding Media files.
currently to do so one has to work around this limitation in FH and physically link the image directly to the individual. A relatively simple change to FH (and TNG) would allow the media tab to show those images without having to do this. I suspect that CP feel they have provided something close to...

Re: Adding Media files.
It wouldn't bother me at all if there were extra options on the media tab, for example the ability to select what media types get shown... 😁 There is something a little bit like that already. The Media tab itself only shows media linked directly to the whole record, but under the tools (cog wheel i...

Re: Offer to retain settings
Do you open AS directly, or launch it using Mike’s plugin? I don’t use the plugin but I know it has a Close on 'Save Entry To File' ? option so if you untick that it won't close AS after each save. Otherwise AS shouldn’t close after saving, regardless of whether you have selected “Offer to retain se...

What expression are you using for the full name?
%INDI.NAME:FULL% should give the full name without the suffix.
%INDI.NAME:ADORNED_FULL% will give the full name including any prefix and suffix.

Re: Merging Citations in FH7?
It is not obvious to me how the fields within a Citation could be merged anyway. How would you merge the Where Used or Text From Source fields, etc, if they refer to different sources? Matthew has said there are facts which have multiple citations to the same (lumped) source. The content of some fi...

Re: Adding Birth/Death/Marriage JPEG certificates
Hello Tim, Welcome to FHUG. You are very wise to explore the program carefully before entering a lot of data – there is a lot to learn! The brief answer to your question is yes, any file which is an image file (such as JPEG TIF, PNG) is handled in the same way regardless of whether it’s a photo or a...

Re: Search and delete duplicate Events?
The safest option is to merge them rather than delete one. As I said in my previous reply, "... if you need to check that there are no differences at all between the two records, you can select them both and then use Edit > Merge/Compare Records." I suspect that no family records were merg...

Re: Search and delete duplicate Events?
(EDIT: Mike's reply arrived while I was writing this. I'll post mine anyway, but as Mike said a screenshot will help to confirm the problem.) You have two Family Records for the couple. Deleting one of the Family records won’t delete the individuals, so it’s safe. In the Records window look at the F...

Re: Adding Media files.
The usual recommendation for images of certificates is to link them to a Source record, and cite that Source for all the facts derived from the certificate (e.g. parents’ names, residence, age, occupation). You can also link the image directly to a fact. You don’t say whether you have already create...
