Re: Dates in narratives
Apologies, before posting my reply I did check the effect of using a qualifier with a couple of the examples in the Help file, namely the {date:YEAR} and {date:DAY_OF_WEEK} and confirmed that there is no prefix inserted in these cases. But I didn’t check FULL or an ABBREV format. Contrary to what th...

Re: Dates in narratives
In the Report Options > Format tab at the bottom centre there is an option to choose the date format (long, compact, or various types of abbreviation). However if you want complete control over the presence or absence of a prefix you need to qualify the date code with a colon followed by the qualifi...

Re: Narrative query
I don’t think it is possible to access that sentence code directly, and I agree the layout is not ideal. If you change the Report Options to exclude Spouse Event/Attributes the sentence does behave as you want, i.e. it starts a new paragraph, and both names are given in full. However if you want the...

Just to add to Mike's reply: You can show the Custom ID field in the Main tab of the Property box, to make it easy to enter a custom ID for a new individual. Click the cog wheel icon in the Property Box toolbar and then select Customize Property Box. Now select Custom ID from the list in the left ha...

Re: Using a function within a function
A completely different approach would be to add a Short Title field to the Source template (Generic Sources always have this field anyway, and I make a lot of use of it). In this field enter your preferred title for sorting. Then use Tools> Preferences > Records Window and tick the option to Use Sho...

Re: Census
John, you must have added the paragraph break yourself in the past, because it is not part of the default sentence template. If you remove it again you may find the narrative report is less readable because, as Adrian has explained, all the sentences will be in the same paragraph. If you want to rem...

John, I have moved this to the General forum because it is not about Sources, Citations and Repositories. Please be more specific. How many parts, or words, do you mean by ‘the first parts’? (And why do you want to remove them? You will probably end up with something which is not a grammatical sente...

Re: How to add tentative person in Ancestral Sources
A.S. typically generates a number of facts for each person and the time taken in finding and fixing the incorrect records in a census can be pretty high. If you create a new individual, or allow AS to ceate one, and you subsequently decide this individual is the same as another in your file you can...

I can find records of his older sister but not younger siblings. Sister was registered as born in Holborn in 1863. I don’t know if you are aware, but there were actually two older sisters, both called Maria. Both were registered in Holborn district and the mother ‘s maiden name was Williams in both...

Re: Oddity on Descendants Left to Right chart...
Teresa, I see you are using a text scheme in which no marriage details or spouse names are included. This is why the extra boxes look odd. Normally with One box per marriage selected in the diagram options the extra boxes would display the name of the ‘extra’ spouse and the corresponding marriage de...

I think you may have two marriage events for those people, i.e. they are married twice to the same person. And in Diagram Options > General tab > Spouse display options do you have ‘one box per marriage’ selected? That would generate a box for the second marriage, with the wavy line linking the boxes.

I’m not sure why you are finding you get two copies of the original and two copies of the edited version. Do you mean you used the copy and paste buttons in the 'Sources for' pane attached to the Property Box ? (numbers 1 & 2 illustrated below) Use copy on the original citation and paste on the ...

In the Records Window, ..... the rows are sorted on a primary column and then sorted in groups from left to right columns. It has always been my understanding that in the Records window the last three sorts are ‘remembered’, so that if a column has identical row values the row subsets are sorted ac...

Re: Check for Unlinked Media
The only explanation I can think of is that when you renamed the media files you actually created copies with the new names, leaving the old files in place. Can you confirm that the folder where the files are held now contains only the ones with the ‘Census’ name? When you used the Search and Replac...

Re: Essential source templates not to standard?
I believe that the format DavidChilds quoted for the citation is actually the Strathclyde format for citing an entry in the birth registration index. An entry in the births index should be recorded using the Civil Registration Index template. You will find that it produces a footnote in exactly the ...

Re: Publish a Narrative Report for the Paternal Line only of my ancestors
You could create a copy of your master Project and delete the maternal line of ancestors. Then the report will only include the paternal line. A simple option is of course to Root the report on your Father, or temporarily unlink your Mother from her parents while you produce the report. Both of the...

Re: 1881,1891,1901 CENSUS BIRTHS DIFFERENT
Where was the marriage? In any part of the UK in 1874 there should have been witnesses recorded. Scottish marriage records include the mother’s name but other regions of the UK recorded only the father. As you have both the father’s and the mother’s name you could try searching for a baptism record....

Re: 1881,1891,1901 CENSUS BIRTHS DIFFERENT
You say you have his marriage certificate. Does it include his father’s name and occupation? If so, that might help to identify him in earlier censuses when he would have been about 10 (1861) and 20 (1871). You might be able to find him in a household with his father. (Of course you need to bear in ...
