No problem. I used them at one time, but not any more.

Re: Media and addresses / Places

Adrian, Fred's point is that he wants to be able to access the Place media easily from the Individual's facts tab. Currently the 'More' column in the facts tab has an icon displayed if there are any media items attached to the either fact itself or to the Source or the Citation for the fact. These c...

Re: Death certificate - record more than one spouse

After the death event has been created I would add a note to the event manually in FH, saying that the certificate named both husbands. You can also amend the 'Text from source' in the Source record manually.

Re: Media and addresses / Places

Select the Place in the records list and click on it to open its Property Box. There is a Media tab on the Property Box just like the ones for other record types. You can add the Media there. The media linked to the Place record won't be accessible from facts tab of the individual's Property Box bec...

Re: Importing of Word documents.

Hello, welcome to FHUG. The best method is to create a Source record for each will, then attach the relevant Word document to the Source in the same way as you would attach an image file. A mulitimedia record will be created for each word document. For each individual who made a will, add a standard...

Right-click on one of the column headings in the Media list and select Configure Columns.
At the bottom of the Configure Columns window click Save to Query.
Use View > Custom Queries to run the saved Query, and then the Print and Save options are in the toolbar top right.

Re: invalid marriage

Perhaps we should make it clear that all the preceding comments about the legal aspects of the marriage are based on the assumption that we are talking about England and Wales. Even in Scotland some aspects of marriage law were different, although I'm pretty sure that the marriage of full siblings w...

Re: invalid marriage

You say "true father unknown", so I take it that you don't think this was really a case of incest. (But it might have been, if the brother and sister were 'married'. Don't rule it out.) In this case just create a record for the father but leave his name blank, and in the note for the birth event exp...

If (and it is of course a very big if) another living male line descendant of your biological g-grandfather has also taken a Y-DNA test with the same company, it would be conclusive evidence of a link. It wouldn't have to be a male-line descendant of your great-grandfather. You could potentially ge...

Re: Introducing myself and a little (or maybe big) question

The screenshot in one of your earlier posts shows that your 1881 census has 41 citations. That would indeed be a lot for Mary Ann Barber! The problem is that you have renamed the method 2 / 'lumper' source for 1881 and added a specific individual's name to it. With the 'lumper' method all informatio...

1. The All Relatives diagram includes 'blood' relatives of the diagram root (which for this purpose includes links via parent/child adoption, although they are not 'blood' relatives) and spouses of those relatives. It doesn't include relatives-of-spouses-of-relatives because that makes the diagram p...

Re: Loss of "Root" record

It's very strange that your own record has disappeared, as any attempt to delete a record, accidentally or otherwise, should produce a warning message asking if you are sure you want to delete this record. Are you sure the record itself has vanished? It's not just missing from a diagram or saved cha...

Hello Martin, welcome to FHUG. Yes, most customisations are part of an installation rather than a project. Different types of customisation are (confusingly) stored in different places. You can change this on a case by case basis with the 'Use Note as Caption' option for chosen pictures. Write your own caption in the Note field at the bottom, then tick 'Use Note as Caption...

Are you asking how to "marry" the second cousins to each other? If so, select one of them and when adding the spouse choose 'Link to Existing Record' and browse to the correct individual as spouse, instead of creating a new record for the spouse. Or are you saying you have already created spouses fo...

Hi Paula, The first thing to be aware of is that in England and Wales the concept of adoption was not enshrined in law until 1926. Prior to that date adoption was always an informal arrangement and there was never a legal change of name. It was just a case of a family taking in a child on a more or ...

Re: reordering the Pool

There won't be any gaps in the numbers. If you click on the column heading for the Pool number in the Records Window, or in the results set from the Search for Orphans query, this will sort the pools in order. If pool number 23 exists then all pool numbers up to 23 also exist!
