Same here Adrian! (I remember punch cards, too. I never saw anyone fold them but I did once see someone drop a whole tray....)

Re: Census Sources

It looks as though your individual has only one Census fact, and you have linked all those census sources to the single fact. There should be a separate fact for each census, each with its own date. Then when you select the first one the Sources For pane will show Census[1]* and the 1841 Census foot...

Re: FH7 report paragraph fix - new version v7.0.1.1

I have now installed the update on my laptop. The process took about 15 minutes, including a reboot, so definitely much slower that 7.0.0. I have not yet tried the desk top. Two of the bugs I had reported (see my previous post in this thread) have been fixed.

Re: Saint and Street format conventions

I have noticed that too, particularly in entries in the National Probate Calendar. I don't know when it stopped, but I have a hunch (only a hunch) about why it started. I wonder if the hyphen was inserted to make it clear that the location was a street/road/lane rather than a place of the same name....

Modern Scottish certificates show them.
Not just modern ones. Scottish marriage certificates have shown the mother's name, including maiden name, since 1855 when statutory registration was introduced in Scotland.

Re: V7 PDF creation very slow, creating huge files

Lorna, in the Report window, check the Printer Setup... on the right. Is the Printer Name your local physical printer? If so then the differences are probably due to subtle differences in their printer drivers. Ah, yes thanks Mike. That explains the difference. They are the same when both set to th...

Re: Icons in diagrams V6.2

Why would you want it to be independent of the data in the record? Surely you wouldn't want to display an '01' or an '11' icon unless you do actually have data for those censuses recorded for that individual? The alternative is to make the icon conditional on a flag, but why would you want to add a ...

Re: V7 PDF creation very slow, creating huge files

I think everyone is agreed that V7 is slower than V6 at creating PDFs and it creates large files. But there are some other very odd things going on. Some people are apparently unable to get FH to produce any complete PDF versions of reports. They apparently see only headers and footers. But we don't...

Do you mean two trees within the same project? If so, here are two suggestions: 1. Open one tree and then use Diagram>Insert into Diagram and add another tree into the same diagram window. or 2. Use Tools>Preferences>Workspaces and set Re-use of Open Windows Permitted to No for the Diagram Window. T...

Re: Starting FH7

Gowermick: the screenshot Rick posted is showing the .fh_data file structure, as requested by Mike. It is not showing the banner at the top of FH.

I don't know what those four .tmp files are doing there, but they are quite old so probably not connected with the recent problem.

Re: Narrative reports text size and other questions

Hmmm... It looks as if that paragraph in the Help has not been updated for a long time. It was probably written before 'other' pictures could be included in reports. I don't remember the title ever being within quotes, but perhaps it once was. Anyway, I am happy with the way it works at the moment. ...

Re: Starting FH7

How do open it? Do you select the project in the Project window of FH, or just click on the gedcom file somewhere? If you have only one main project I recommend you set it as the default project (select it in the Project window, then use More Tasks and Set as Default Project ). Then whenever you run...

Re: Narrative reports text size and other questions

.....but that problem is inherited from FH V6. i.e. It affects 'Other' Picture Types. I suspect that it may be deliberate. The point is that when it's a picture of a person (linked directly to the individual) and you are not using the note as the caption, FH generates a caption ,e.g."Anthony Edward...

In my case the email told me that two of the bugs I have reported have been fixed: 18321|Diagram text scheme...

Ah, yes. That's an obscure one to spot! A full frame picture attached directly to a Fact is always displayed with the Picture title, regardless of the Title options chosen for the report.

Re: Adding village info to family group sheets or other reports

Yes, I realise it would contain some 'stuff' you don't need, but it might result in a shorter report than the one with the list of all the people associated with the place. You may just have to save one of the types of Place report as RTF and edit it to remove what you don't want.

Re: Narrative reports text size and other questions

However, the Pictures tab option to Inc. Picture Title does not work correctly. When unticked the Picture Title remains on full frames whereas in FH V6 it was hidden. Again, my findings are different. When I remove the link note from the full picture of Anthony Edawrd Munro and leave Inc Picture Ti...

No, as Mark said If you try to install a third, activation prompts you for one of the existing copies to disable.
So you disable FH on the computer you are replacing, then install it on the new one.

Re: Narrative reports text size and other questions

Lorna, what Pictures tab settings are you using because it is not working for us three. Ah! The options work better where there is a Face Frame defined. For full-frame images, none of the Pictures tab settings work the way they did in FH V6. Link Note Captions are ignored and the Picture Title cann...
