Role dialogs

I have created a Role Dialog (my very first one) for use with wills, but the Role Name and the Past Tense fields are inappropriate and I need to (ideally) delete or edit them.

How do I get back to the Role Dialog screen for this purpose.

Re: Duplicate External File Links

Having just done an export of 20 individuals where the media files were correctly copied across (having followed your advice relayed by Lorna, and your direct advices), I can see now how the problem arose.

Thanks Mike. Excellent advice as usual.

All is good now.

Re: Transfers between projects

Works like a dream for the export of the 20 individuals BUT includes not only their media and sources etc. but of everyone else in the project. Not what I need.

What to do?

Another question: does this method import the associated media files?

Transfers between projects

What is is the best way to transfer (copy) 20 or so individuals (together with their notes, places, sources and media etc) from one project to another. Is there perhaps a plugin?

Context: I have one main project with over 1500 individuals and I just need to put 20 of these into a second project.

Including age (in years) in a diagram box

Is it possible to report the age of an individual at the date of an event into a diagram text box . This might appear as e.g. "Died 1787 aged 42". I cannot find any variable which allows this.

Re: Duplicate External File Links

b) It is NOT possible to link an Individual or Source via its Media tab "to an existing media file in the project folder."
The only link option is to Link to Existing Media Record.
.

I meant Existing Media Record.

Re: Duplicate External File Links

It's amazing how just talking it through with a fresh pair of eyes can solve a problem. What I did was: 1.) Delete all Media and source records with zero links. These records all concerned people who are not in the project. 2.) This left 6 for remapping. Job done! Thanks for your gentle prods. One o...

Re: Duplicate External File Links

Sorry, I'm not being precise: a) 7 refers to the number of different merges I did in 2014 as evidenced by the "File (merged) C:\ path" sources created at the time of each merge and now present as sources in the current project (called Temp D and G) with all the X'd External Links. b) "I always link"...

Re: Duplicate External File Links

Honestly, no; I did not check. So I think it must have happened when I did the merges (there were 7 per the File (merged) C:\ path sources). I did this back in 2014 when creating a trial database. I was experimenting for the first time with the Merge function. I am now forewarned. In response to you...

Orphan individual records

Is there a query to identify individual records that are either "single people" or "small groups" (say a small family of 4) in the database, sitting alone and not linked to the anybody else in the main project.

Duplicate External File Links

I am attaching a screen shot of some duplicated External File Links which I think they were created during file merges, but i'm not sure. When I go to the media records for these links, I find there is no file for that record. This is logical and when I delete the media record, the associated X'ed o...

Transfer of Source Notes when merging databases

I have just merged one database into another and I see that the Notes attached the Sources have not come accross. I have 2 questions: 1. Why have the notes not been transferred, and is there a way to ensure this happens. 2. If I need to retype the source notes into the merged database, I will need a...

Fact definition usage

I'm in the process of rationalising my fact definitions - many years of slack and mis-informed usage have taken their toll! Is there a report I can now use to tell me how many times a fact (or facts) have been used and where?

Creating a diagram Icon Legend

My diagrams use Expressions to attach Icons to the boxes. Can anyone suggest a method to create a Legend on the Diagram to explain the meaning of each Icon. This would be useful where diagrams are distibuted to third parties who may not be familiar with Family History conventions/notations etc.

Re: Source types

Mike, Sorry for the delay in getting back. Thanks for the offer of help, but I think I'll stick with what I have got - you worked so hard to get that right for me. It's no big deal to have to modify the source type. Just got to remember to do it! If things change, may I get back to you?

Re: Source types

I have over 230 UK censii alone, so updating existing sources, would be a bit of a chore. I think I'll try and persuade Nick. Thanks for the other info on AS.
