Transferring/copying data

Many thanks; I have now successfully copied my FH data onto my laptop. I will try Dropbox when I have a few moments.

Transferring/copying data

Thank you both for your suggestions. I shall try Jane's idea first.

I have no idea what a Dropbox is or how to access it, can you be more specific please?

All this will have to wait for a week or so as I am due a spell in hospital.

Regards,

Transferring/copying data

I run Family Historian on my PC and I have just installed it on my laptop. I now wish to copy all my family history data from my PC onto my laptop. I understand that when I copy/synchronise my data I must remember to copy the whole project folder, not just the gedcom or backup file. I have tried 'fi...

Restoring FH data

Good morning Jane, When I backup and close my current/default project corrected for the erasure I made and then later open the project it still opens showing the copy containing the erasure, not the amended copy. I then go to my backed up file and it opens successfully at the corrected copy. I have ...

Using a second computer

Jane, Many thanks for your quick response. I am not the greatest expert on computer usage so your help is invaluable. My copy of FH was obtained via a download rather than a disk so I am not sure how to go about loading the software onto the 2nd computer. Do I just go to the FH site and put in my de...

Using a second computer

I run my copy of FH on my desktop PC. I have now bought a laptop, which is not networked to my PC. It would be ideal if I could use my laptop for entering my FH project at times I am not in my home office with my PC.
Is there any manner in which this can be done?

Restoring FH data

I accidently deleted an entry on FH . I therefore went to >File >Backup/Restore >Restore and called up my last saved file. I then re-entered the data I had lost and continued by entering some new data. I exited from FH and backed up the file. Next time I used FH it appeared in the original form i.e....

Downloading ';Getting the Most from Family His

Perhaps I should have recognised the problem earlier but the problem was nothing more than the file I had downloaded was corrupted in some manner. I have now been able to download the book.

It remains only for me to thank you for your interest in my problem.

Downloading ';Getting the Most from Family His

My thanks, once again, for all your help. I think I have now found the root cause of my problem - but not the answer. When I bring up and click on Family Historian in my Start menu, it shows 5 (sub) programs, one of which is 'PDF. Getting the Most From Family Historian 4'. Clicking on that brings up...

Downloading ';Getting the Most from Family His

Thank you all for your helpful comments. In the efvent I installed foxitsoftware.com as PeterR suggested. Now, when I click on Getting the Most from Family Historian 4, I get 215 pages downloaded onto a foxit page. Unfortunatelt, each of the pages is blank! Any ideas where I go next? Very frustratin...

Downloading ';Getting the Most from Family His

I am still unable to crack the secret of downloading this book. I am using Windows XL and Microsoft Office Word. When I click to download the book, I get no option of downloading to a PDF file or query as to where I wish to download it - it immediately downloads into Word. I have tried using Adobe b...

Downloading to CD

Well, that was fine, thank you. My next problem is that when I try to download the Book from the help menu it will only open up in Word as gobbley-gook. Nothing I can do will persuade it to open as Adobe. Is it me (likely) or something to do with the program? All that said, I find this a splendid pro...

Downloading to CD

I have been able to load a family diagram onto a CD. When I try to open the CD on my other computer it requires that I download a ,gdf program. Must I download that file onto my computer or is there another way of reading the CD?[frown]
