Re: Recording colour as on US Censuses
Sure, broke down into sections as you suggested, then tried to make loop? --[[ @Title: Color records from US Census 1900 @Author: @LastUdated: July 2021 @Description: Finds Color data in FH Project for individuals on US Census 1900 and creates a Physical Description ]] --Loop through each Individual...

Re: Recording colour as on US Censuses
Hi, so some good news, can amend the new 1950 census template in AS to capture the race field in FH as physical description, via tools..census templates.. (select USA 1950), click on race, amend coulumn type to PhysicalDescription. Thank you for previous guidance to enable to this. The bad news, I'v...

Re: Recording color as on US Censuses
Have been entering data now for a few weeks and it is proving quite helpful with identifying the family groups and individuals in the US. Unfortunately I have already entered 90% of the US census data for Bilbo onto FH7 using AS, so begs the question can I now draw that data from the FH7 Sources int...

Re: Recording colour as on US Censuses
Mike, you are a star! I followed the advice toward the end of your reply AS has automated processes for adding the details such as Name, Sex, Age, Occupation. It can also automatically add Physical Description details, but you will need to change the Tools > Census Templates... definitions for colum...

Re: Recording colour as on US Censuses
ah ha. Yes I see it! The W, B, Mu or Neg is in the text for each of the censuses. So are these values transfered/captured also in FH7? For example when I take a line/entry from 1920 census: Name,Relationship,Owned/Rented,Mortgage,Sex,Color,Age,Marital Condition,Year of immigration,Naturalization,Nat...

Re: Recording colour as on US Censuses
Thanks Mike. I can see how this would enable me to enter the details, but I'm after something else. I thought that because I have already entered the details on Ancestral Sources (1000 of entries, from US Census 1900 to 1940) they were somewhere already in the FH7 data? Thanks. Kevin

Recording colour as on US Censuses
Hi, I've been using Ancestral Sources for a number of years to help record details from US censuses and now want to be able to see the color or race details entered under personal description, on FH7. Cannot find anywhere in FH7? Thanks

Importing to TNG without deleting recent TNG entries?
Hi, first let me say I'm seeking help on both this and the TNG forum to solve this one. I continue to use FH6 as my 'master' record and have more recently started to enjoy using TNG to get other interested parties to engage and share with our research. I have no problem in Exporting the gedcom and m...

Retain Data Box - Switching back on?
Hi, I turned off the retain data screen by unticking the option at the bottom of the retain data box, now I want to turn back on again. Have found guidance in the Help for Retain Data, but I cannot see in the Options screen where to switch back on again. Would prefer not to have to revert to origina...

Re: Key Repositories?
Adrian, thanks for sharing how you capture certificates, it makes sense to me. I think maybe my One-name Study (ONS) is influencing how I'm using the source and repositories PBs, in particular for photos, newspapers and bmd certificates. When I started the family history I did the typical work back ...

Well that's another doc to read, thank you for the reference to https://www.evidenceexplained.com/ . Re: Key Repositories?
Hi, have confidently tidied up the repositories for my census types/sources, but looking at the discussion now I'm not so sure about the certificates originals, original copies, copies of originals and copies of copies? Re: Key Repositories?
Hi Arthur, I to aim to use the repository field to identify (where known) the original document so that either I or someone picking-up my work can identify where the document is. Three examples: 1911 England Census, repository The National Archive; Photo of Mr & Mrs Smith, John Brown; Original birth...

Re: Recording Source Author, Type & Publication Informatio i
Well Lorna, glad I asked. Of course Scotland is part of the UK and as you say the repository is the National Records of Scotland, New Register House and maybe under a different author to UK. So while the censuses were administered under the same act, undertaken on the same date using the same format...

Re: Recording Source Author, Type & Publication Informatio i
Thank you Nick, that's great news regarding the repository as it eases my aim of better capturing the repository for the records. With the release done you probably deserve a break from requests! Re: Recording Certificate No and doc references in AS
Thanks Nick, maybe something for the future. Mike mentioned how he was not keen on using custom ID, so if it were incorporated (please) it would need to be an option like the link to FH Publication field. For now I've switched off the link in AS Options RefID to FH publication, but kept the link int...

Recording Certificate No and doc references in AS
A spin-off from the 14023|Key Repositories? discussion on FH Forum regarding recording certificate or folio numbers. Recording Source Author, Type & Publication Informatio in AS
Hi, we've been having a discussion regarding recording repositories, author and publication information on the FH Forum 14023|Key Repositories? . Acknowledging that the author, publication information and repository are not always known at the time of keying in on AS, where they are, it would be nic...

Re: Key Repositories?
Lorna, thank you for the info. I've now unticked the In source 'Publication Information' field, so a nice quick fix that will keep the publication field clear for other information. I cannot see an option to put the record reference into the Custom ID box. Maybe something for later. Regarding the au...

Re: Key Repositories?
Mike, you make it all appear so clear. I would have thought if we give the institution name it's enough, unless clarity is required between similar institutions. I'd always look up e-mail, address, phone on website before making contact. Also less to keep up to date. I've added to my list this eveni...
