What shall I do next?
Hi, My own preference would be the facility to edit names from AS. The new template editor makes AS so versatile and easy to customise to the user's own way of working, I think this extra feature would make census entry pretty much perfect! Of course this feature would also carry over and be equally...

Adding New Individuals
I added a whole load of data and new people yesterday. This new feature makes working with AS so much quicker and simpler than GC, great job, many thanks! I also find it especially useful that I can now enter the data from a census, running just AS from a USB stick, when FH is not available - in my ...

Census Notes
Thanks all for your help. I shall certainly have a go with the census templates. Sounds as though this is a way of tailoring AS to do things just the way I always have... You are certainly making me wonder if I should rethink the way I store censuses, I can see a lot of merit in your autotext route....

Census Notes
Hi Gerry, doesn't that add the note to the census entry, for everyone on it, rather than for the individual? I have not tried using the auto text features.

Adding New Individuals
Hi Nick,
Thanks for such a speedy reply. I must have been blind! I was looking for these in the tools menu/tool bar with the add unrelated individual - never looked over to the side...
Look forward to using these - most useful. Thanks again.

Census Notes
Am I the only person who likes to add information in the notes field against a person's census entry? Things like 'widow', 'name spelt Smithe' and the like.
I'd love to see a field in AS to input these directly. Is this possible by editing the template - I haven't tried this yet.

Adding New Individuals
Hi, I'm just getting started with Ancestral Sources and love the idea of being able to add new individuals without having to go back to FH. I always found it so difficult to remember to hit save when switching between FH and Gedcom Census! I have read all the options in the help file, but have only ...

Age at death in diagrams
Thanks for your reply, Jane. It has made me 'bite the bullet' and have a proper look at functions. After much trial and error, and even resorting to the manual, I've finally got what I wanted! If anybody else is interested, this is my code: d. %INDI.DEAT.DATE:ABBREV3% =ExistsText(%INDI.DEAT.PLAC%,'i...

Age at death in diagrams
Hi, I'm trying to add Age at Death in my diagrams, but this seems only to work when a specific date of birth exists. Where I only have a date of baptism I have added birth events with date Bef. 'date of baptism'. FH is happy to estimate ages in the events tab based on this, but seems to ignore it in...

Gedcom census and Multimedia links
Not sure I understand all this thread. I have tried using Gedcom census 5.1 using method 2 and linking images to citations. When I view the file in FH 2.3.5 I can see no reference to the image files, although the link is listed as an OBJ in the gedcom.

Place/Description field in FTM
Thanks for your advice, I am making some inroads into this task. Can I recommend 'Advanced Find and Replace for Microsoft Word' by Jack M.Lyon, to anyone doing similar, I have found this most helpful. It is a free download at: http://www.editorium.com/freebies.htm

Place/Description field in FTM
Big problem. FTM has a field labelled Place/Description under Census. The only other field being date, I have always used this for place/age/occupation/address.... Of course this all now goes into the Place field in Gedcom and into FH. I have started editing the data manually from the person list in...

Diagrams - Baptism date in place of birth date
I got around this in the past by adding a birth event 'before (date of baptism)'. I was pleased to see that this is not needed in FH now on charts, and began removing the added birth events. However I notice that the births of their children then disappear from the parents events lists.

Quarter date format
I suppose there's no easy 'find & replace' for my dates then! Still should not take long to search each 'bet' and put the year in.
I've just received my full copy of FH tonight, previously working on the demo, so keen to see how it goes.
Thanks again for your help.

Quarter date format
Thanks for your very quick and useful reply. This is a less obvious but very useful feature of FH, that one can do such editing in a WP, where the GEDCOM format is known. My dates are stored as '2 DATE BET APR AND JUN 1873' I think this should be '2 DATE BET APR 1873 AND JUN 1873' presumably why FH ...

Quarter date format
I do like the FH format for storing dates as quarters. In FTM I stored these as 'Between Jan - Mar YYYY'. On import these are all stored as 'date phrase'. Do I need to go into each one and edit to quarter format, or is there a quicker way to do all at once?
