Re: Issues with plugins under linux, wine, and playonlinux

Mike, we had a protracted conversation at Problem with code snippet (17199) about unzipping files which resulted in this code of yours Knowledge Base > Alternative Code which the Research Planner uses.

Re: Issues with plugins under linux, wine, and playonlinux

Colin, I'm not familiar enough with the environment to be sure of how to make the edit -- and of course I haven't got a suitable test environment here. (As an aside, I was gobsmacked the the developer of one of the DNA tools I use crowdfunded buying a Mac environment to test her product -- I'm not s...

Re: Issues with plugins under linux, wine, and playonlinux

Colin, thanks -- but now I'm stumped. The pl library is being installed in the location FH expects to find it (alongside the plugins); however, the FH Lua environment then isn't finding the library... and there's no way to configure that. I wonder if it would work if the full path to the library was...

Re: Issues with plugins under linux, wine, and playonlinux

fhGetContextInfo('CI_APP_DATA_FOLDER') is an API call to Family Historian to ask where the Plugins folder is located. The plugin relies on FH to know where its own bits and bobs are stored. Temporarily, can you insert a line local storein = fhGetContextInfo('CI_APP_DATA_FOLDER')..'\\Plugins\\' imme...

Re: Interpretation of Marriage Witnesses etc

I also have no crystal ball, but for my own purposes I'm assuming that the best way to work within FH7 will to be to use Fact Witnesses, and will be moving my project in that direction.

Re: Short dates and place name for Gedcom export to Family Tree DNA

Mike, those numbers haven't come from fH (not manually entered) so they must have come from somewhere else at some point. As George has identified that they are numbers assigned by Ancestry, either it's an Ancestry bug that only(?) George is seeing (neither you nor I are seeing equivalent numbers in...

A question -- and I apologise if this has been asked/answered earlier in the thread: has your tree ever been exported from Ancestry to FH or another product?

Re: Focus Window and Property Box

You can have two copies of Family Historian open for the same project at the same time... although it takes some discipline only to make changes in one of them. (You can make changes in both, but I don't recommend it -- that way lies confusion). The Quick Family Facts plugin (from the plugin store) ...

Re: Create project using existing data files

Open the Project Window. (File > Project Window)

Choose New Project.

Choose Import a GEDCOM File.

I recommend keeping the box ticked to Copy your linked multimedia files into the project folder.

Mike, copyright subsists even if the original website doesn't.

It subsists typically 75 years after death of the creator.

Re: brick wall in New Zealand

You need to go through a process of elimination. Examine each candidate arriving or born in New Zealand of the right(ish) age and the same or similar name, and track them forward from the point at which you first find them. Some of them will die at the 'wrong time/place', some of them will marry the...

If you follow the links for the various versions at how_to:about#version_history|> Version History you'll see there have been a load of new features since 2.1 (which is where I started as well), and there are even more coming in v7... There has been so much change you might find it sensible to get t...

Everybody's code style is different -- I can't make head nor tail of your code, nor of Mike Tate's, most of the time. I think it depends on how each person's brain is wired.

I use the do-end construct to localise variables (restrict the scope to the code block) and also to make it easy to fold/unfold great chunks of code as once in Zb. The functions don't run unless they're called

Re: Penlight Library

the Loadrequire code is at the knowledgebase page I pointed you to; you need to drop it into your plugin. When you say you're trying to nick the code (and go ahead, use whatever you want frommy plugins), do you want a popup windows for options (I suspect not) or a basic iup dialaog? If you can give ...

Re: Windows 10 upgrade questions

For the techies amongst us, the root cause of the problem is that Microsoft has two different 'software installation architectures' for Office which are not compatible with each other. Standalone products like Access 2010 use the old one; MS Office H&S 2019 uses the new one. I ran into a similar con...

Re: Penlight Library

You need to 'loadrequire' it first: see plugins:code_snippets:module_require_with_load|> Module Require With Load (code snippet) . The first time it's run this will download the library to your PC, thereafter it's the same as require. if not LoadRequire("pl","pl.init") then return end -- Load requir...

Re: FH7 Looks?

How many people have freely chosen to move to Windows 10? I did. I find it very stable -- I've had many fewer problems than with Windows 7 or 8 -- and very customisable. (I particularly like the ability to use light-weight apps rather than heavyweight programs for some purposes). As for the ribbon ...
