New tool for working with the trees of DNA matches

One2Tree is a Chrome extension that makes it easier to search your DNA-matches’ family trees. It can be used for the family trees at FamilyTree DNA, MyHeritage and Ancestry. I suspect it will be particularly useful if you're trying to reconstruct the tree of somebody with unknown parentage and want...

Re: Ancestral Sources - Remove Flag Support?

sgauntlett, I think Nick wants to remove the code to make the application simpler to maintain, so making it optional wouldn't be possible if he did that.

On the top menu File > Project Window. Single-Click on the project to want to be the one that opens by default. Click the More Tasks... button and select Set as Default Project. Re: Ancestry DNA recalculations

LivingDNA do seem to have a more granular analysis of UK regional origins, but they aren't popular enough to be much good for finding matches yet. My Ancestry analysis in its current iteration is spot on for me being half welsh but has chucked away half my English ancestry and replaced it with Scott...

Re: Rules of engagement

Sorry, Mark, but I do think it impugned my motives and the motives of others here. This is not a "community volunteer group" -- whatever one of those is -- it's a group of people interested in using a particular software product and/or helping other people to do the same on a peer to peer basis. We'...

You're going to have to spell things out for me, Mark -- how do you think a conflict of interest might arise? And who is this 'we' you're talking about? The individuals who host and pay for the site, and do all the necessary technical work in the background to keep it running? The people who adminis...

Re: The New Knowledgebase

JoopvB, We will very be taking the NEW KB offline in the next couple of days for maintenance, which means it won't be readable for anyone without an editor's account for it. I plan to make it available again when FH7 is released... who knows what might appear in there while it's offline?

Re: How to best link sources to each other?

How/where will you want to view the linkage? From the Source record or from the 'book record'. Do you want the book record to appear in reports? Do you want (for example) to view the 'book record' and see all the sources connected to it? If you can tell us a bit more about how you want to view and u...

Re: Recording a Couple marrying twice

I would add a second marriage between the same two people in the Facts tab of the Property box. When you 'Add marriage' you get prompted to record a marriage to an existing spouse or to a new one -- if you choose an existing spouse you don't end up with the spouse duplicated. Do include a note about...

Nothing on the Wish List is guaranteed to get implemented, even if it gets a significant number of votes. The direction the product takes is up to Calico Pie. We know they do consider items on the Wish List when making their development plans, but it is by no means a 'Todo' List for them.

Re: In praise of named lists!

everything in a Named List has to be linked to a named individual
Not true.

You can add a Note Record to a Named List without linking it an an Individual.
Or a Source Record, to which you can link a Note.

Re: Using the Named List Pane

IN short, you can't open the Named List Pane without the Records Window coming along for a ride. Hovever you can reduce the width of the Records window to zero using the slider between it and the Named Lists Pane. If you do that, and then use Window > Tile vertically, you can display the Naed List P...

I believe the longest segment is calculated before the TIMBER algorithm is applied, so conceivably that discrepancy is 'expected'.

The precursor to (IIRC) Findmypast (the website had BMD in the title but I can't remember it exactly) had images of handwritten indices... I had a clearout a few years ago and deletes loads of downloaded images.

No. The historical law isn't speculation -- which relationship was involved might be without more info, but the full facts might be useful to others who search for similar guidance.

No. The validity or lack of validity of the marriage needs to be understood to record it properly.
