Re: Census UK Tab - my take
I have given all this much thought over the weekend and will read up about v7 and make a decision soon. I had originally thought I would stick with v6 because it does what I need it to do and v7 sounds more complicated. I am happy using a computer but I don't know how to do half the things that come...

Re: Census UK Tab - my take
Thank you it is reassuring to know what others think. It has taken me years to learn some of the functions of v6!

Re: Census UK Tab - my take
Many thanks for that information; I had not realised it was better to add everyone individually. I have used FH since the beginning but, like many others, I have not always been able to keep up with my research and I have never really got to grips with all the ins and outs. It is now that I find I h...

Re: Census UK Tab - my take
I am not sure if anyone has read my last question. I am stuck not knowing whether to keep the Census UK tab because it doesn't seem to work for anybody whose entry was under Family, only for individuals. Please can somebody confirm this? If it is the case I may want to delete the tab completely but ...

Re: Census UK Tab - my take
Oh wonderful - so easy when pointed in the right direction! Now to see what else I might have missed. Ah, back again with my next question: I can see the census tab is populated with details I have added via the Facts tab but only for individual census entries and not where I have added them as cens...

Re: Census UK Tab - my take
Many thanks for the replies, I will see what I can do! Version 5 seems a long time ago and it reassuring for me that I am not the only one to have missed anything to do with tabs!

Re: Census UK Tab - my take
Sorry to post so long after this thread was started but I am catching up on abandoned research and also reading all the bulletins I haven't read and I saw a reference to the Census UK tab but I can't find it anywhere. Is it avaliable pre v7? I am on v6 and if so, how do I get it please?

Re: FHUG replacement
Thanks for replying to me. I have opted for the weekly email from this site and I will unsubscribe from the other list. I just wondered if I am alone in not understanding queries and other technical procedures. FH is brilliant but I want to spend my time on my tree and not on computer studies but I ...

FHUG replacement
Hi. I know this is an old topic and the User Group emails changed to the io group but I am really struggling. Are there any emails sent just to this group on a regular basis or is it just for specific queries? I spend so long reading through the io digest emails and these days they are so technical ...

Re: married names in records list
Thank you so much. As usual you have come up trumps very promptly for me. I followed your diagrams Jane and was very happy to have the names back again. I do rather think it was after my clean install that things went awry, Mike, and it doesn't help when I have long periods of not using FH on a regu...

married names in records list
Hi. I am having another go at getting to grips with FH6 having been using FH since it was first brought out. I know I used to see a column in the records window for the married names of women, possibly listed as Spouse, but I can't understand why this is no longer showing or work out how to get it b...

Up and running once more. Phew! Thanks again for prompt help and what brilliant customer service from Calico Pie! I won't lose the key in the future but it is good to know you can register it with them.

Re: clean install of Windows 10
Thanks, I will investigate the details you sent. I am not sure if I know how to use a plug-in but I will endeavour to understand it and I will make an Installation Archive once I am up and running again.
Thanks, too, Jane, I have opened a support ticket.

Re: clean install of Windows 10
Further to all the above, I was delighted to find I did save the original download of version 6 to a USB key BUT I don't know where I made a note of the product key - is there any hope for me?

clean install of Windows 10
Oh dear, I am in trouble again! Back in 2016 I had major computer problems and even bought a new PC and sought a lot of help from here in setting up FH again. I did, in fact, decide to buy a download for version 6 and all has been wonderful until now. I have saved all the upgrades and back-up copies...

Re: Reviewing historic tree
Thank you and apologies for being slow to reply. I have to think seriously before I either upload a gedcom or start a new tree on Ancestry as I find them both daunting prospects. It is taking me time to get back into FH anyway so I will plod on working my way through parts of the manual.

Re: Reviewing historic tree
Thank you for all the above, very helpful and lots of food for thought. While I agree that my main objective is to tidy up my tree completely, I do actually want to extract a basic tree as well because I have recently renewed an old subscription to Ancestry and am wondering whether (and how) to uplo...

Reviewing historic tree
I have used FH from the start and have accumulated a large tree over many years. I have had several breaks from research but always return with good intentions of sorting through all my records to verify accuracy. Years ago I merged someone else's tree with mine and I would rather go right back to b...

Re: Blank Project window
Thank you for the helpful advice. I am fairly computer literate but don't like changing things in the registry. I have looked for help on these updates before and found that there are others who have the same build of Windows as I do and they have the same problem. My grandson, who built my computer...

Re: Blank Project window
That's interesting, thank you. I had untold problems with Microsoft trying to update my PC with the Creator's Update and it crashed my computer badly three times before it gave up so I rather think things went wrong then. I just wish I could opt out of the updates as I certainly don't want my softwa...

Re: Blank Project window
Thank you Lorna and Mike. I have found the right location and the projects are back where they should be. Phew! What I don't understand is why this happened because I have regularly opened and used FH without this problem. I have not changed file locations or anything but I won't forget to do full b...

Blank Project window
Hi. I am in a state of minor shock just now. I opened FH as usual (I have version 6.2.5) and weirdly none of my gedcoms is listed in the projects window. I frantically searched my files and I do have a fairly recent back-up but first of all I am non-plussed by why this has happened (?) and secondly ...

Re: upgrade to 6.1and reports
Many thanks for the responses and tips. I am away from home at the moment but hope to have time soon to get things sorted. I bought myself a brand new Version 6 to use on my new PC, managed to get my gedcoms working well and was finding my way around ok. It was on opening it up one day to look at my...
