Multiple Independent Roots for trees.
I don't know the answer but would be very interested in any responses, as I am doing something reasonably similar, being a one-name study of a local name restricted to my home town and its registration district, and therefore am in a similar quandary.

print margins
Thanks, Jane.
I have had a look and don't believe that my printer can be adjusted to do this. Not to worry, though, it's an irritation, not a problem.
Thanks again, as always, for your prompt reply.

print margins
Hi -- cannot find anything about this topic on the forums but I'm sure the answer is simple... When I print off a multi-page diagram, there is about 1cm of blank page at either side on each sheet, so that when successive pages are attached the lines do not join. Obviously, I could either live with i...

Gedcom Census
Thanks for your reply, Jane -- I see how to unlink etc. Related question though -- say I forgot to record an occupation for the head of household in the lower half of the Gedcom Census and now wish I had -- is it possible to remedy this so I can get an occupation to show as an Event/Attribute agains...

Gedcom Census
Hi! I am a new user of Gedcom Census, which I like very much. However, I have a question: is it possible to edit a census record once you have clicked on Save Changes and the data is input into FH? I know that I can edit the text which I entered into Source Text box of Gedcom Census and appears in F...

re Sue's suggestion: Kelly's Directories of that era usually give the name of the district registrar. For instance, in the 1855 PO directory of Kent, the registrar of BDs for my home town Whitstable is named and his address given, even though the registration district is centred on nearby Blean.

Ancestry.com
Here:

It uses freeBMD's data but in a more user-friendly and stable environment.

Ancestry.com
Ancestry is useful but frustrating -- it's a lot of money and the indexing has not been subject to rigorous quality auditing -- i.e. it's poor. Will be much better value by the end of 2005, when (probably) all the C19th censuses will be available online there. I have to say that Ancestry's version o...

Censuses
Jane is right but there is no chance of the 1911 census being released before January 2012. If you use online censuses you must bear in mind that the misindexing and mistranscription rates are high -- easily 10%+, I would suggest, on Ancestry (1871 in part, 1891 in totality and 1901 in part, with al...

Password
I have just joined the group. I am a little confused about my password on My Profile. The password is represented by dots but the number of dots does not correspond to the number of characters in my password. Is this normal? It seems I can still log in and out using my password but it is somewhat di...
